What. In. The. Heck..?
Ever since my grandparents died, there are no family meetings, gatherings, or should I just say there is no family. Whatever. My father is a bit politically confused. One of his sisters lives in California, the other, only 5 minutes away from him. Tried calling him yesterday, no answer. Talked to his older sister for about 30 minutes trying to get his other sister's phone number. The number she had for her little sister was wrong / out of date.
Why do I bring all this up?
When my grandmother passed 7 years ago, her estate was sold off by my father as the executor, then split between the three of them equally. He sold the house, the property, cashed out stocks, etc. They completely liquified everything, divided it three ways then dissolved the estate. He is no longer executor now that everything is done.
Or is it?
I found an abandoned building that has sat dormant for the last 2 - 2.5 years. I finally got around to calling the treasurer to figure out what was up. I found that this building... IS STILL OWNED BY MY DEAD GRANDMOTHER. I found the leasee my grandfather had leased to was still paying taxes on this property up until 2020. Then I found out that that guy and his business partners are in the middle of a RICO case going back to Mexico. They're all dealing with that as of August 2021.
I have been assured and have been able to confirm there is no deed of property ownership for the leasee. So, the county says I need my family's permission to buy this, as these three individuals own the property and have no idea. The people in the way of my next largest mistake in life are my father and his two sisters... So yeah, I'm calling around trying to get a feel for the family mood / animosity while I try to figure out how to take possession of this as inexpensively as possible.
I know as soon as the little sister sees that she can get more $$ from her dead parents, my option will likely be outbid. 3,000 sf brick building on its own lot. Yes, please.

I need some help finding a tune. It's a Massive Attack-ish/Tricky sound. Not too trip-hoppy but in the 105 bpm range and the majority of the song has a sample that sounds like a guy from Prodigy saying "One and in comes the two to the three" which gets repeated seemingly throughout the entire song.

This evening, the fire brigade was here, beating down the door of a flat two floors below me (the doors to each unit lead to an outdoor balcony-type thing that span the length of the building, kind of like a motel in the US).
There was an elderly lady waiting outside anxiously. A neighbour, I assume, since all the flats in this part of the building are studio flats.
When the firemen came out, they told her something I couldn't hear from my position outside my door on 4th (I was observing this all through the reflection in the window of the building opposite the courtyard from me), but she started wailing like a banshee, so I'm guessing the tenant in the flat was dead.
I didn't stick around long enough to rubberneck some more. Felt utterly disrespectful.

Blimey, it was 22 years ago today that I went to this all-nighter at a warehouse on the opposite side of the Thames to the Millennium Dome. I have good memory of sets by Boards of Canada (who have only ever played live once since this show) and Aphex Twin who I remember playing Take On Me by A-ha at 78rpm over blasting electronic noises to great effect. It was also one of those gigs when the only way to stay up all night dancing about was to drop a few e's which really kept me going as everyone was well into the party mood. I also recall seeing Bjork wandering about and it was indeed an Incredible Party!

This evening I went to see Pavement play here in Leeds. I’ve always loved them so was rather excited. The venue were cunts though. I’d cycled into the city and taken my small rucksack with my bike lock in, locked my bike up and had an empty bag and they wouldn’t let me in with it. O2 Academy policy apparently. No rucksacks, although women can take any other bag they want in. I kicked off saying I’d paid £40 for a ticket and their policy is nonsense, especially if they have a cloakroom I can put it in, but they almost said they wouldn’t let me in for arguing. “Sorry pal, but I can’t let you in MY venue.” Like it was his personal venue, the fucking idiot. He was a slave to a stupid rule. I put my bag in the bin yet still had to queue again.
Came out, thankfully grabbed my bag out of the bin, Spiral Stairs came to the local pub who was pretty cool, where I also met a guy who basically knew everyone in the world who gave me his number who can get me a ticket to see Bill Callahan in Leeds next month too. Maybe for free. It’s been a good night! But fuck me, the O2 Academy in Leeds is a sack of shit. £6.50 for a pint too.
