This evening I went to see Pavement play here in Leeds. I’ve always loved them so was rather excited. The venue were cunts though. I’d cycled into the city and taken my small rucksack with my bike lock in, locked my bike up and had an empty bag and they wouldn’t let me in with it. O2 Academy policy apparently. No rucksacks, although women can take any other bag they want in. I kicked off saying I’d paid £40 for a ticket and their policy is nonsense, especially if they have a cloakroom I can put it in, but they almost said they wouldn’t let me in for arguing. “Sorry pal, but I can’t let you in MY venue.” Like it was his personal venue, the fucking idiot. He was a slave to a stupid rule. I put my bag in the bin yet still had to queue again.
Came out, thankfully grabbed my bag out of the bin, Spiral Stairs came to the local pub who was pretty cool, where I also met a guy who basically knew everyone in the world who gave me his number who can get me a ticket to see Bill Callahan in Leeds next month too. Maybe for free. It’s been a good night! But fuck me, the O2 Academy in Leeds is a sack of shit. £6.50 for a pint too.
