    This evening, the fire brigade was here, beating down the door of a flat two floors below me (the doors to each unit lead to an outdoor balcony-type thing that span the length of the building, kind of like a motel in the US).

    There was an elderly lady waiting outside anxiously. A neighbour, I assume, since all the flats in this part of the building are studio flats.

    When the firemen came out, they told her something I couldn't hear from my position outside my door on 4th (I was observing this all through the reflection in the window of the building opposite the courtyard from me), but she started wailing like a banshee, so I'm guessing the tenant in the flat was dead.

    I didn't stick around long enough to rubberneck some more. Felt utterly disrespectful.

    Ugh.

    • Well, this morning there's police tape on the door, and there's a bouquet of flowers in front of it. The person who lived there definitely died, then :\Continuity
