    What. In. The. Heck..?

Ever since my grandparents died, there are no family meetings, gatherings, or should I just say there is no family. Whatever. My father is a bit politically confused. One of his sisters lives in California, the other, only 5 minutes away from him. Tried calling him yesterday, no answer. Talked to his older sister for about 30 minutes trying to get his other sister's phone number. The number she had for her little sister was wrong / out of date.

Why do I bring all this up?

When my grandmother passed 7 years ago, her estate was sold off by my father as the executor, then split between the three of them equally. He sold the house, the property, cashed out stocks, etc. They completely liquified everything, divided it three ways then dissolved the estate. He is no longer executor now that everything is done.

    Or is it?

I found an abandoned building that has sat dormant for the last 2 - 2.5 years. I finally got around to calling the treasurer to figure out what was up. I found that this building... IS STILL OWNED BY MY DEAD GRANDMOTHER. I found the leasee my grandfather had leased to was still paying taxes on this property up until 2020. Then I found out that that guy and his business partners are in the middle of a RICO case going back to Mexico. They're all dealing with that as of August 2021.

I have been assured and have been able to confirm there is no deed of property ownership for the leasee. So, the county says I need my family's permission to buy this, as these three individuals own the property and have no idea. The people in the way of my next largest mistake in life are my father and his two sisters... So yeah, I'm calling around trying to get a feel for the family mood / animosity while I try to figure out how to take possession of this as inexpensively as possible.

I know as soon as the little sister sees that she can get more $$ from her dead parents, my option will likely be outbid. 3,000 sf brick building on its own lot. Yes, please.

    • Is "politically confused" an euphemism for MAGA?palimpsest
    • I'd like to believe if he were MAGA, he'd have at least chosen a side. He believes in dem policies; health, education, etc, but if you say the word democrat...imbecile
    • Maybe he's a Marxist and that's why he also hates those damned liberals.palimpsest
    • he considered himself a hippie for years and his wife smokes pot. The man is an angry white man for the sake of it. he's probably MAGA when I put it like thatimbecile
    • Rich people problems
      ********
    • seems easy enough to solve. you pay a fair price, they each get 1/3. what's the biggie?hans_glib
    • Nothing a 12" Kitchen Knife can't solveshapesalad
    • I suspect the estimation of what said 'fair price' will be is the biggie, if there's an inheritance leech in the family.Nairn
    • indeed a leech. the youngest in CA was the biggest problem. considering the "health" of the family, I'd likely be better off making an offer through a 3rd partyimbecile
    • This should be as easy as "you missed one, just leave ownership how it is, I'll pay the back taxes and rehab the building under the contract you won't sell it"imbecile
    • Let me conduct business there until the three of you are dead, then I'll worry about who owns the building.imbecile
    • Family complicates stuff like this. Because you'll have to pay fair market price regardless, why not just find a different property that doesn't have the...catpower
    • family dynamics. Lots of properties out there... but maybe I'm missing some of the dynamics. etc. Speaking from experience, deals are often best done alone.catpower
    • @catpower dude! you're alive! please update us! https://www.qbn.com/…Krassy
    • If the other 2 are desperate for money it may be possible to buy them off cheaply otherwise it is only natural to want to get as much as possible.comicsans
    • Sell it, take your 1/3 share and move on. Also see a lawyer.comicsans
    • location is GREAT for myself and my interested parties. father still silent. found a cousin who can find my other aunt. building needs rehabbed if not razed.imbecile
    • Yes, see a lawyer. One of my friends was in a slightly similar situation, and it resulted in almost a year of arbitration. YMMV.garbage
    • It's not natural to want top dollar for something you don't know you even own, that you put nothing into, that is in dire need of renovation. that's just greedimbecile
    • I don't have 1/3. It is owned by family 3 members who don't speak. I'm trying to pay for a bitter reunion.imbecile
