Sooner than expected, but as expected, my role was eliminated yesterday afternoon. No more than an hour after my boss pushed me to deliver a mockup for one of their brand websites that they're paying an external agency to develop. You're welcome.
As expected, the engineering manager thinks his team of 4 backend app developers can design and UX the remaining 60% of the app. Even with the component library I built, there's not a snowballs chance in hell.
So I sit here this early am questioning the universe and my place in it's vastness. I feel like a total failure and I'm not sure I want to design again. Fuck me. I'm having a hard time looking my eldest son in the eye for fear that he sees the failure in mine.

Got a new freelance assignment, to create the layout for a product design company's website which will be after polished/reviewed by their senior graphic designer and coded by their programmer/developer.
I was required to do it in Illustrator.
Cool, no problemo!So I was checking for some templates to start playing and couldn't help but notice that the offers for Sketch are superior than for Illustrator, well at least in the different places I was checking.
I realized also that many prefer Photoshop to Illustrator.
I also wrote back in December that some company wanted to hire me as Web Designer to work with Photoshop creating Layouts...- i don't know if this is strange or not, but I've never used illustrator for web design. Always Photoshop.shellie

I quit my full time job in February of this year. Funny thing was I was making more yet living standards were also high, living and working in Midtown, Manhattan.
I make less money today doing what I enjoy, but the irony is that i'm saving more than before. There's also less stress, and this is a great time to take it easy and recover from 16 years of hustle in NYC.

I was missing a friend today. I'd thought his instagram was very quiet, I'd been so self involved over the past 15mos... hadn't even noticed, and hadn't been on social media much. Today I wanted to reach out to him.
Found out today (on FB's memorial page for him... ) that he'd passed away last January. Last January.
He was a light, people loved him, and he was an amazing artist. He was involved in the music scene in LA and brought to LA phenomenal artists, a total people connector through music.
Chuckled today I'd remembered sneaking a love letter into his back pack in 4th grade, and tried to retrieve it and he caught me... I was mortified LOL.
I went to Bumble fest with him '07, in SF at the start of his new magazine to photo shoot for him. His magazine and career in music spun off from there.
I miss him dearly. I regret not seeing him in 2015 when he'd been in NY and began uploading old photos of childhood memories. Why was he doing this... did he know?
He died from pneumonia at 37. How does that even happen to someone so young. There was so much of an outpour of love for him on his FB page, that I'd missed.
While I felt moved by the impact he had, I was left feeling contemplative of my own life. What legacy will I leave? Who will post on my "wall"/come to my funeral? What will people say about who I was?
Some of the other shit that I've given weight to, all seems to float away.
