When the hell did tipping for food delivery turn into this?

I just placed an order for the local Tai joint to bring some fried rice about a mile to our place.

$5 or 20%?? REALLY? You're not refilling my drinks and taking away dishes etc etc...

    THIS IS ROBBERY!!!

    :)

    • You can't justify that!pango

    • I love how they transfer the responsibility of paying a living wage as if there's nothing they can do about it expect make the consumer feel guilty.Gnash

    • face... it's not your job as the consumer to pay the wages of someone else's employee... is it? And fuck off w/that 'feed their kids' emotional BS, ffs.PonyBoy
    • Just cuz someone's trying to feed their kid doesn't mean I have to overtip / overpay more than I should... Jesus fucking Christ.PonyBoy

    • Having grown up in the industry I have no issues tipping, and invariably over-tip because of that history ($5 is my minimum for delivery guys)...Gnash
    • ... But this pleading by the company for the consumer to pay the wage is a bit much....Gnash
    • .... something stinks If your business model relies on the consumer to be guilted in to paying your employees wages.Gnash
    • fuck, i tip on takeout ordersGnash
    • i tip at starbucks if the person is pleasant... I tipped $5 out of some odd fear of the delivery man... and I usually tip about 20-22% when we eat out.PonyBoy

    • i look at it this way, if i can afford to dine out, i can afford to tip. though the system does suck,GuyFawkes

    • "you're only saying that cuz you never worked at a restaurant" oh i had plenty of bar and restaurant jobs before.pango
    • Wait, you pay a delivery fee and are then expected to tip? That's flat out wrong. A tip in that context is for see ice above and beyond, or discretiondetritus
    • I've always just hoyed drivers a quid or so, but thinking about it now, I've done as much since the nineties, not accounting for inflation.detritus
