My father turns 82 today. He’s still going strong—he rides his bike three or four days a week, and plenty of young people would struggle to keep up with him.

He’s quite a character! I know I’ll regret it later, but I just can’t seem to find the time to be with him as much as I should right now. Between this damn job and the time I have left for my wife and daughters, I barely have a moment for myself.

I just called him; he knows I’m always thinking of him and Mom—though today, a call is all it’s going to be.

That said, we’re having a family meal on Saturday to celebrate, and damn, are we going to celebrate in style!

    • I wish I could do that. I lost both parents in the 80s. (not their 80s)CyBrainX
    • Enjoy that! I miss my old manstoplying

    • That's great man, maybe you can make it a tradition... maybe for Sunday. I'm jealous of families that do that.canoe
    • My plan was to spend Saturdays with my parents... realistically, once a month wouldn't be bad.OBBTKN
    • I don't know how you guys do it, but after working a thousand hours, I barely have any time left for my wife and daughters...OBBTKN
    • yeah if any of you have the luck to still have your parents, go visit them often. It can happen quick. Lost my mom this year suddenly.HAL9001

"[ ] The story goes like this: Earth is captured by a technocapital singularity as renaissance rationalitization and oceanic navigation lock into commoditization take-off. Logistically accelerating techno-economic interactivity crumbles social order in auto-sophisticating machine runaway. As markets learn to manufacture intelligence, politics modernizes, upgrades paranoia, and tries to get a grip.

The body count climbs through a series of globewars. Emergent Planetary Commercium trashes the Holy Roman Empire, the Napoleonic Continental System, the Second and Third Reich, and the Soviet International, cranking-up world disorder through compressing phases. Deregulation and the state arms-race each other into cyberspace.

By the time soft-engineering slithers out of its box into yours, human security is lurching into crisis. Cloning, lateral genodata transfer, transversal replication, and cyberotics, flood in amongst a relapse onto bacterial sex.

    Neo-China arrives from the future.

Hypersynthetic drugs click into digital voodoo.

    Retro-disease.

    Nanospasm.

[ ] Beyond the Judgement of God. Meltdown: planetary china-syndrome, dissolution of the biosphere into the technosphere, terminal speculative bubble crisis, ultravirus, and revolution stripped of all christian-socialist eschatology (down to its burn-core of crashed security). It is poised to eat your TV, infect your bank account, and hack xenodata from your mitochondria.

Just watched "Disclosure Day" on a flight home from Miami and I have to say, it was not nearly as bad as I thought. I'd seen plenty of damning reviews when it came out, and I have to admit, the story wasn't what I thought it would be - but I liked it. I found it refreshing to have a cast of kind of unknown actors - aside from Emily Blunt - Tons of eye rolls, and chuckles, but (full disclosure) I was entertained.

    Right, okay.

    It’s really late, I’m half-pissed, but...

In a moment of clarity, after a "conversation" lasting over half an hour with Claude (using its most advanced model), I’ve arrived at the most precise conclusion—its exact definition.

    Artificial Idiot!

Someday, if I feel like it, I’ll flesh this idea out properly.

For today—at least as far as I’m concerned—you can all sleep easy.

This synthetic shit is absolutely not "better" than "us."

    Sweet dreams!

    • Seriously... it only dazzles those who are prone to it.

was i dreaming or did somebody post Aldous Feehand on here they'd recreated as a web app? I never got round to trying it - maybe because i dreamt it and nobodies actually recreated it in the first place

    • I think you just nominated yourself. Love this idea.monNom

    It’s raining!

It’s raining today and yesterday—like it hasn’t in a year.

The drought this spring and summer was incredible (though it never actually becomes a problem here, given the huge water reserves).

Autumn is here, and the darkness returns until May... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't think I'm telling tales out of school when I say most of this community leans left. I'm a commie myself, though to my chagrin, I also have a techno-libertarian streak.

To borrow from Bookchin: I'd like to see affinity groups spread out from this community, self-organized and loosely confederated under the QBN banner. We already have a small one on Discord to that end. Let a hundred flowers bloom, and build your own.

That goes especially for those of you on the right, our own marginalized minority. Whatever your intentions, you've chosen to share your ideas with this community. I'd love to see how they live in a self-organized space among like-minded peers. I'd rather see more rooms than fewer voices.
    ▎
They say don't feed the trolls: I say give a troll a fish and you feed him for a day, give him his own Discord server and he feeds himself.

    I quit ma jerb! I'm 52... it's time.

Been living in Mexico for exactly 20 years this month.

Moving to Seattle in 4 weeks, just accepted my first non-design or even computer related job in 30 years.

Very good money, company vehicle, free rent, I couldn't pass it up.

I'm going from way too much sun to none at all. lol

I’m planning to take it easy, but my plan—working from 8 to 6, exercising from 6 to 7, and cycling on weekends—is turning out to be a total failure.

I’m completely consumed by work and the daily grind.

It’s gotten so bad that I hadn’t even realized Monday is a public holiday!

Make some room for me, Moldy; I don't think this job is healthy ;)
