re: applying for jobs and stuff we're discussing now, can you please fucking apply even if you don't hit 100% on the job requirements?

Seen so many people hired for top jobs even tho' they clearly didn't even hit 50% on the requirements

In a way this is infuriating, mostly for seniors, as they think "hmm this job asks too much even for me, won't apply" then seeing that job filed by a kid with 3-5 years experience

so yeah, if you like the company but think you can't be 100% on the job reqs, apply apply, chances are you'll get the job anyway!

    Bring Joy
Bring joy to every moment, whatever the moment may be. Rather than taking your cue from the circumstances you find, set out to inject your own living joy into the places you go and the things you do.

There is always room for REAL, sincere joy, even in the most difficult of situations. And it is in those difficult situations that a grateful, joyful, positive heart can make the biggest difference.
Others may judge a particular task to be dreary, tedious, or tiresome, but that’s just their opinion. When you approach that same tasks with joy and enthusiasm, you can add enormous value.
There’s no need to wait for joy to come to you. You’re perfectly capable of spreading it yourself, far and wide. During work and during play, when times are easy and when things are diffcult, bring joy.

If there’s a reason for it, if there’s no reason for it, even if there are reasons not to, bring joy. Bring joy to every moment, and that is where you will know it.

Do you ever think to yourself, "I haven't had a good cry in a while." So you revisit a film that always turns that emotional valve. I find it rather cathartic that I have this ability. Sometimes the pressure builds up and I don't realize it. So, perhaps turning our own valves now and again to release the pressure is good for our brains?

Ever have those "massive sigh of relief" moments at work? I've been working on client wireframes and comps with one other designer under the expectation that we had a TON of work to do to finalize by first week of December to hit a mid-January launch. Full overhaul of a huge section of the site, new modules, content templates, etc. It was overwhelming to put it mildly. Vacation next week for both of us made it even more challenging.

Turns out, all we can do by January is deliver new content in existing templates they already have. Client and our team was instantly happy with a phased approach for new stuff that we can stagger out through April 2021.

It's as if I was in the garbage compactor scene in Star Wars, awaiting my imminent fate, and then the machine just stopped and we immediately knew were weren't about to die. I can't even start to tell you how relieved I am. And, bonus, we got all our wires done in the past two weeks and are now ahead of the game and able to collaborate far better with these clients with a lot more breathing room.

    • In many projects I convince the clients to skip wireframes, if you have good user stories you can go directly to high fidelity comps, saves tons of timegrafician
    • ^learned this a decade ago when presenting wireframes 1st then the client thought it was the final design and rejected the offer as "too simplistic" lolgrafician

My week so far: three job hunting rejections, one dating rejection.

First freeze of the season came last night, and we woke up to a clear sunny sky and just above freezing temps. After dropping my son off at preschool, I head over to the mechanic to drop off the car for a quick repair, and begin a 45 minute walk home through town, which I really looked forward to.

I'm walking along now, quick enough to get the blood flowing and hold back the chill from the air, and start generating that heat that feels great on a day like this. The sun is shining and the streets are covered in yellow and orange leaves, and it's gloriously beautiful.

And then the next second I'm in the air, falling flat on my back on the sidewalk. Some asshole had his sprinklers on last night, creating an invisible layer of ice on the concrete in front of his house. Now my shoulder hurts.
