LOL.. walked dog/puppy to pick up kid from school, walking out was accosted by text soccer mom type "you know you can't bring dogs into school grounds!"

we have had this conversation with a few different teachers and even the office, and they all said its fine as long as she is on a leash and is going nuts.

so super confident I throw it back at her, she gets all flustered and asks if its a disability dog (like I'm blind or something)

I'm like, nup, your just a idiot.

get home, google it, and of course its prohibited to bring dogs onto school grounds in NSW ..

am sure this won't be the last I hear of this ..

    • its not like its a pitbull or something, its a fucking Labrador..autoflavour
    • They extended the rule to weekends a couple of years back so lots of markets are now dog free, eg. Glebe. Nanny fucking state.MrT
    • "text soccer mom"??? wtf? LOL... never heard itOBBTKN
    • well, was the dog going nuts or not? it's fine as long as she is...imbecile

    • yeah text book.. and doesn't go nuts. too used to being able to edit posts on other platforms.. sloppyautoflavour
    • and yes, office said they have a policy on the school grounds where they actually encourage dogs.. as long as they are chill and on leash ..autoflavour

Why do stores bother closing earlier on Sunday?

    Like:

    Mon-Sat: 10am-7pm
    Sun: 10am-6pm

    • So workers can get home to have dinner with their family at least ONE night a week?microkorg

Not sure where to post this on QBN so I'll ask here...

Anyone know of a good preview app for Mac that will allow me to preview MXF containers w/out any conversion?

I can pull the files into Premiere or convert them individually w/apps like Wondershare but that requires loading / converting / lots of waiting.

Some clown just delivered a couple hard drives w/about 1.5TB (hours and hours) of raw 4k footage... completely unlabeled / uncut / unsorted (ag-'XLTP00034AM.MXF'... about 200 files all labeled that way). He was clear he had zero intent of converting this shit to a readable format so my client can review and select the footage... dude will shoot a 12 hour day for a minimum fee but I guess that doesn't come w/any kind of sorting... :/

    • dat suxGuyFawkes
    • data complete mindfuck :(sted
    • Could you batch convert them to mp4's using Handbrake, left overnight? Then you can at least preview/sort and even edit and swap to mxf later.shapesalad
    • I usually just use an ingest setting in Premiere and load all the MXF, go away for a while and wait for the renders to finish.zarkonite

Are you guys friends with your exes?

There has to be a really strong connection for me to stay friends with an ex.

The last girl I used to date treats me like a weekend BF when she's in town. We would hang out like we used to, go to dinner, grab drinks, go back home, Netflix & chill, and sleepover. But the rest of the time I'm in the friendzone when she's back home, with little to no conversations except for small talk about her job.

    • No, women seem to get over me very quickly.DRIFTMONKEY

    • You have to cut it off clean. All in or all out - no hedging. A hang-around ex is going to concern any potential new partner and ruin your chances at a real GF.monNom

Worked late last night waiting for a welder to finish two really tough stainless steel welds. He had a really cute welders helper and when I finished developing the radiographs and told them the welds were good she said "nice, I did not have to show you my tits" I knew then that I had made a horrible mistake.

This Bourdain death hit me harder than Prince, Bowie, even Cerati didn't break me like this. wtf. I think it's the level of humanity in his shows books interviews etc. He opened up about his addictions and troubles, was beloved around the world for just that, being human. I'm clearly not a writer but I enjoyed his perspective / Social commentary so much. A true loss.
Just rambling now I think I need a Bourdain support group right now. :(
    Cheers.

Those of you who are parents, do Kate Spade and Bourdain's suicides hit you even harder because of the children they leave behind?

I obsess enough over the safety, innocence, emotions, etc. of my two kids already. A lot of that has to do with losing my sister 24 years ago in a car wreck. I was 17. All those emotions of the first big loss in your life are just as heavy so many years later as they were then.

But seeing parents take their lives, and having some understanding of those emotions that come with loss of someone you love, I just can't process it. I can't even process it to the point of thinking the parent was selfish, or cowardly, or cruel, or any of the things people who commit suicide are often called. My mind just goes straight to a child entering an endless loop of "why?" as they try to process death, and especially that someone chose death. That someone had something in their life so powerful and so harmful that it resulted in them creating that kind of sadness by taking their life. I get really sad thinking about it. It makes me (and I fucking hate this) go through this whole routine of imagining my children reacting to loss... what would they do if I died? How would they process it? How would their lives change? How would they deal with it? Feels like someone is standing on my chest and my mind is racing just trying to back away from those thoughts and images.

I think understanding suicide - or trying to - is hard enough without those variables, but damn... even trying to imagine what those children are going through and wanting so desperately to keep my kids safe and innocent and free of loss in their lives as long as possible is overwhelming.

    • Of course some events trigger overwhelming feelings, but I'm an advocate of not driving ourselves nuts in anticipation of problems we don't have.spl33nidoru
    • You're alive, and when you won't be it won't matter to you how others handle it. Make the most of today, sounds like you care for your kids, that's what mattersspl33nidoru
    • This being said, I'm sure Spade and Bourdain cared very much for theirs as well.spl33nidoru

  • HijoDMaite3

    @mg33

This morning I woke up my wife and told her about Bourdain, I followed it with the news that he had a 13 year old girl. Her first words were "fucking asshole!" mind you we have been fans of his shows since the beginning. We have two girls, a 14 year old and a 17 year old. I think I understand suicide more than she does. My brother killed himself with a gun to the head in 1999 he was 25. He was sick, like really sick. Years of drug use on the streets of Costa Mesa and OC took a toll on his brain and he developed serious drug induced schizophrenia. He had to be on meds but when he would feel better he would take himself off the meds and the cycle went round and round. In his last years I recall his descriptions of the voices in his head, he would tell me that they would scream at him and also whisper sometimes. The voices said he was no good, that this or that person hated him, that he was a piece of shit, and so on. He couldn't be around crowds, heavy traffic or even running water because it would become unbearable. So when I learned he had shot himself I knew he just wanted it to end. I don't think he was selfish, I think he was tormented and thinking of his loved ones was not really a luxury he had at the time. In fact I believe he thought he was doing our family a favor because he saw himself as a burden to our family.

He didn't have children though. It does piss me off that these two recent deaths did it with young kids at home. I want to try to understand the pain they must have been going through but it's difficult because I myself have never experienced total despair. I also can't shake the feeling that these two completely successful people, and I mean masters at their craft, were struggling with mental disorders and agonizing pain and yet they felt they could not be open about it because of their pride. Could it be that they just could not bear the shame of admitting these character defects? Could their fame and fortune and their high society standing cause them to hide it all until it was too late? If that's the case then celebrities are in even bigger trouble than we think. I mean you look at a guy like Terry Crews didn't he come out publicly and say that he struggled with porn addiction and that he was seeking help? A guy like that?? To come out and admit he is too weak and needs help? Tell me that guy has not benefited from being honest and open. I bet you he has and I bet you his family has also benefitted from it too. (Just looked him up, 5 kids and one wife since 1990.)

I don't know obviously, but I know this world does need something and I don't think Hollywood has it.
