There's a certain lack of what I believe is an important aspect of Anthony Bourdain's death within the narrative surrounding it, and that is his place within that narrative itself.

Bourdain managed to be a good man, as well as successful, within a world of mostly vultures and gossip-mongers. In many respects, that represents "The American Dream."

However, it's that exact notion - that fame and fortune is a valuable aspect of an American / western story worthy of telling - that he so often pushed back against in what cultures he featured and how he told the stories he did. That the greed and individualism of America is not the quintessential model for human life, but rather antithetical toward it.

When it comes to Bourdain himself, who knows why in the end he took his life. But for all the stories I've been reading and all the outpouring of grief, there tends to be a lot of "how can we prevent this within the context of our society" and not a lot of "maybe our society is a problem." In a country that is increasingly consumed by the desire to define individuality within a certain constraint of commercial and capitalist notions, it will always be the ones like Bourdain who manage to grab the attention of so many because his inherent model of being was to reject much of that. His acceptance of others was his projected individuality and that is why he was so loved and will be so missed.

Feeling very grateful for the music I love, most of which – as it happens – originated from black musicians. (Jazz, Funk, Afrobeat, Reggae, Dub, Hip Hop, Disco, House, Techno, Jungle, Drum 'n' Bass, Garage, Grime) Credit where credit is due.

Hey qoob, I set up a fundraiser for LGBTQ youth in NYC (high risk & homeless teens) if you're able to give, shoot me an email and I'll fwd you the fundraiser link.

Why an organization around LGBTQ youth you might be asking? LGB youth seriously contemplate suicide at almost three times the rate of heterosexual youth, and it's 35–50% for trans teens that attempt. This organization serves as a safe haven for youth and is helping to reverse the the hardships youth face, here. It's not easy, I can attest to that.

I've been a member of QBN for so long I remember posting from my ex-girlfriends dorm at Barnard 17 yrs ago; all that to say I haven't seen many fundraisers here, except for 1 or 2. So I'm hoping this is well received.

I'd be humbled to pieces if anyone here joined me in charging an organization that mentors young folks here in this city.

I'll also share with you a piece of my story if you care to hear.

OK, I've busted apart our blog ;)
    ...back to your usual programming.

Purchased a book today and the intro page had a typo. I went into a fit of rage, internally (I was on transportation reading).

I actually enjoy typos, outside of a publishing. It doesn't bother me to see in professional emails even, but if I pay for a book by a publisher I expect the writer to have their shit together.

    Is that bad?

I'm still gobsmacked that when my magic mouse runs out of battery, I have to turn it over on it's back and go off and have a shit and wander round the office unable to use my computer for half an hour while it charges. I know there inconvenient ways around that like having a second mouse or asking colleagues to make sure it's charged for the one day a week I'm in, but you really shouldn't have to make inconvenient solutions when the obvious fucking solution is to have the port in the back and it simply turn in to a wired mouse while it charges.

What in the utter living shiny fuck were apple thinking? It's so terrible it's almost hilarious, if it weren't for the fact that I'm having to type this on my phone while forcing out a shit at least 25 minutes early.

I've been absent here lately because I've finally done it, I went back to the dark side and took an agency -ish type job as a Sr. Producer. It's still a freelance collective so the vibe is different but still so busy. So many big contracts -- it's definately more than full time. I've been clocking 70-80 hour weeks which my bank about appreciates. That's a nice change from tour manager, struggling artist life. I guess that was a nice burnout vacation.

But, I also have this scholorship (my 3rd in a row) to UCB (Upright Citizen's Brigade) and I can't imagine having the time to write at that level for my next class. I'm planning a week off for everyone between two huge contracts. So, maybe I'll take a week long improv intensive. I hate being on stage (I went to UCB to write sketch, not act) but I think it will help with my shyness in crowds when the focus is on me. It's a strange mix of excitement to do it and natrual fear. Now I just have to line up the time.
