Work Christmas Party tonight, Yey! Sincerely, yuletide props to you all. Drink your fill and misbehave because alcohol tastes better than tears and tomorrow you'll all be ugly again xx

It's amazing that places like Office Max and Kohl's always have people willing to work there.

I understand Chipotle is mostly college kids and people in their 20s, but where are these people in their 30s and 40s willing to wear a polo and work on a Sunday.

Why would someone work at Staples?

"there's nothing we can do, the computer does it automatically."

So memorial company sends me a proof to approve before carving my father's headstone and the kerning is waaaaay off. Can you imagine my frustration at hearing them tell me they can't/won't fix the kerning (you can drive a truck between the spaces before and after the letter A) on my father's grave stone!?!?! They simply refused to space out the other letters accordingly, was a surreal couple of weeks attempting to get this corrected.

I should have known when I found out this company was the same that did my grandparent's and the SAME kerning error is there, I even used it as an example and they still refused.

Never in a million years did I think I'd be arguing over kerning on a memorial. Had to finally get my deposit back and go with another company. First time for everything I guess, ugh!

Over the past two photoshoots and communication in between the photographer has been a little too, "me-me-me". Yesterday, he was up to his usual self and explaining in the client chat that he can't deliver on x date because he has other projects and clients with deliverables.

There must be at least 10 times he's pushed back the deadline due to previous engagements. We've never had an issue because our deadlines are soft. So that's not the point.

I texted him and basically said, "ya know it's not polite to talk about other clients in front of clients, right?"

As expected, he put it back on me, "Seriously?" "Sorry for offending you," "I was just trying to communicate expectations".

I reassured him I wasn't offended and said, "...if you think it's smart to talk about other client work in front of clients, go ahead and start talking about other women in front of your wife. Tell me how that goes."

    He didn't reply.

There are so many other ways to discuss deliverables without having to convey one client is more important than the other. And he failed to understand that. Unfortunately, he couldn't see anything more important than himself in the equation. It doesn't matter if he rubbed the client, or me, (the guy who got him his dream gig) the wrong way....

...because 9 out of 10 times when someone says, "Sorry I didn't mean to offend you," it really means, "I could give two fucks if you're offended, I'm only apologizing because it looks good on paper."

    • You probably don't think so. It could be your writing style, but I avoid your frequent questions because you come across as so toxic. I'm sure other's do too.monNom
    • Just know that there is something about the way you communicate that is closing doors for you. Working on it might be the key to amazing things in the future.monNom
    • How am I a dick? Everyone agrees that talking about clients in front of other clients, especially in this context, is faux pas.canoe
    • I'll certainly give it some thought. If you're talking about me being a dick to racist, narcissists, bigots on QBN, then I'm fine with that.canoe

    • So you're finally coming back here and bringing up something that happened years ago and making a broad judgement - I'm always a dick. Seems a little harsh.canoe
    • Have you been on QBN? I'm the toxic one here? C'mon man. I'll take smart ass, self righteous at times, and a rebel against haters and narcissists. But toxic?canoe
    • I have like 200 threads on QBN, and maybe 2-3 of them have arguments with grafician or cannonball or NB or sted. smhcanoe
    • I don't know what this thing that happened years ago was. I just notice you asking for help a lot, then getting pissy with the people who try to help.monNom

@canoe sometimes you aren't choosing, the best way to express your displeasure i think we can agree on that.
      sted
    • Sometimes we need to vent and QBN
is a place for that :) it is worth thinking that there are many people here who have experienced similar things as you.
      sted
    • between sharing these experiences there are a few here who are able to contribute to the solution of a problem with a constructive proposal.sted
    • I think these comments are much more valuable than any analysis of the other person's behavior. also if you focus on these, you will get much less frustration.sted
    • @monNom what does
" wad frae monie a blunder free us" means? merry Christmas to you too :)
      sted
    • I think it means, free your mind and your ass will follow. Or, it means, everyone has faults, beware of yours and you will be free.canoe
    • @sted. The line before talks about seeing yourself as others see you. I think I the gist is you could waste less money and have fewer blunders in your life.monNom
    • @sted. Noms thinks that it's better to believe what some asshole on QBN makes of you rather than what you make of yourself. It's bullshit.canoe
    • Every professional knows not to wedge clients between clients. Only self-oriented prima donna types would dare make themselves more important than their clientscanoe
    • And that's too bad for the photographer because we have over a million dollars just in 5 Land Rover remods, and I let him go. 50k in work easy.canoe

so last year i got a 3% pay rise, inflation was almost 8%, this year i get another 3% and inflation's almost 5% - is it usual to get under inflation pay rises as this is effectively a living wage decrease

Shopping at Temu, AliExppress and the like is very tempting. If you know what to look for, you can get very decent stuff for 10% of the local retail price.

Also, you're directly supporting the Chinese government. And apparently the workers would see working at Amazon as a dream scenario in comparison.

But fuck me, it's cheap. And sometimes the local markups are retarded. I'm for instance not paying $25 for a fucking piece of lycra:

Having a custom harness made for my dog. I've been calling around to upholstery shops looking for the right people to help me get it made.

Call one shop, highly revered for their custom work, the moment they hear the words seat belt, they withdraw and start saying liability. I start laughing and repeat the word "dog". They stand on "liability".

So, I explain to them that I don't think the harness at the dog store or one bought online is strong or secure enough to be considered a seat belt, nor do I believe the NTSHA has effective ratings or standards for them. So, there is no liability where there is no mandate.

    LIABILITY.

To which I say... "Oh, okay. I get it, you're telling me you can't make something stronger than a $10 strap I bought off Amazon, even if I bring you genuine BMW seat belt components? Thanks for the heads up."

    They hung up.

Every other shop after them was more than accommodating and one even surprised me to pretty much guarantee my business...

"We have a seat belt sewing machine. Can you come in on the 2nd?"

    Wait, what?

"The machine is pre-programmed to make the required patterns for each end of the seat belt as well as the safety loop."

    *blankly stares at computer screen*

    The 2nd sounds great.

    • TBF I wouldn't take that business either.monNom
