Over the past two photoshoots and communication in between the photographer has been a little too, "me-me-me". Yesterday, he was up to his usual self and explaining in the client chat that he can't deliver on x date because he has other projects and clients with deliverables.
There must be at least 10 times he's pushed back the deadline due to previous engagements. We've never had an issue because our deadlines are soft. So that's not the point.
I texted him and basically said, "ya know it's not polite to talk about other clients in front of clients, right?"
As expected, he put it back on me, "Seriously?" "Sorry for offending you," "I was just trying to communicate expectations".
I reassured him I wasn't offended and said, "...if you think it's smart to talk about other client work in front of clients, go ahead and start talking about other women in front of your wife. Tell me how that goes."
He didn't reply.
There are so many other ways to discuss deliverables without having to convey one client is more important than the other. And he failed to understand that. Unfortunately, he couldn't see anything more important than himself in the equation. It doesn't matter if he rubbed the client, or me, (the guy who got him his dream gig) the wrong way....
...because 9 out of 10 times when someone says, "Sorry I didn't mean to offend you," it really means, "I could give two fucks if you're offended, I'm only apologizing because it looks good on paper."
- To do: Create "Work Blog" thread for QBNcanoe
- someone can either be counted on or not.
using other clients as an excuse is a reason for divorce. these problems only hold you back, they move nothing forward******** - I only talk about other clients when I want to fire one. But on the other hand, that improves the relationship ;)OBBTKN
- he takes advantage of your patience simple as that. it is work, if he doesn't needs it then why even bother with making excuses********
- And post related, I've been waiting for half a year for a photographer to shoot a campaign, ridiculous.OBBTKN
- 6 months! Dang. I get how photo/videographers have a potential to work themselves into a hole when it comes to editing and revisions.canoe
- Just found out he's paid in full... ick.canoe
- the wife comment was pretty unprofessional itself to be honest.ephix
- ephix - more unprofessional than constantly being late on deliverables and using other clients as an excuse? whatevs.canoe
- ephix - let's hear your sage advise? I tried to be honest and straightforward the first time around! Resorted to an analogy most people can relate to.canoe
- Canoe, you do come off as a dick. Frequently.
A little introspection is a good thing.monNom - You probably don't think so. It could be your writing style, but I avoid your frequent questions because you come across as so toxic. I'm sure other's do too.monNom
- Just know that there is something about the way you communicate that is closing doors for you. Working on it might be the key to amazing things in the future.monNom
- How am I a dick? Everyone agrees that talking about clients in front of other clients, especially in this context, is faux pas.canoe
- I'll certainly give it some thought. If you're talking about me being a dick to racist, narcissists, bigots on QBN, then I'm fine with that.canoe
- That's some tough love to be sure. But there's a new year and a new start just around the corner.
Merry Christmas.monNom - No. you are generally and at all times a dick, particularly to the very people you just asked for help. It's a bad look.monNom
- You may be charmingly offensive in real-life. But it does not translate to text.monNom
- But truly, I mean it with the best intention.
https://www.goodread…monNom - Merry Christmas and best wishes in 2024 to you. I wish you'd see my side of the story... he was always late, always the same lame excuse, and it was always...canoe
- ...about him. If you don't stand up to people like that then they're just going to continue taking advantage. My client agreed, the photographer was way...canoe
- ...too self absorbed and not nearly as talented as his ego portrays. Nonetheless, maybe there's a better way to have brought this up. I'm all ears.canoe
- So you're finally coming back here and bringing up something that happened years ago and making a broad judgement - I'm always a dick. Seems a little harsh.canoe
- Have you been on QBN? I'm the toxic one here? C'mon man. I'll take smart ass, self righteous at times, and a rebel against haters and narcissists. But toxic?canoe
- I have like 200 threads on QBN, and maybe 2-3 of them have arguments with grafician or cannonball or NB or sted. smhcanoe
- I don't know what this thing that happened years ago was. I just notice you asking for help a lot, then getting pissy with the people who try to help.monNom
- @monNom he is pissed off.
@canoe sometimes you aren't choosing, the best way to express your displeasure i think we can agree on that.******** - Sometimes we need to vent and QBN
is a place for that :) it is worth thinking that there are many people here who have experienced similar things as you.******** - between sharing these experiences there are a few here who are able to contribute to the solution of a problem with a constructive proposal.********
- I think these comments are much more valuable than any analysis of the other person's behavior. also if you focus on these, you will get much less frustration.********
- @monNom what does
" wad frae monie a blunder free us" means? merry Christmas to you too :)******** - I think it means, free your mind and your ass will follow. Or, it means, everyone has faults, beware of yours and you will be free.canoe
- @sted. The line before talks about seeing yourself as others see you. I think I the gist is you could waste less money and have fewer blunders in your life.monNom
- @sted. Noms thinks that it's better to believe what some asshole on QBN makes of you rather than what you make of yourself. It's bullshit.canoe
- Every professional knows not to wedge clients between clients. Only self-oriented prima donna types would dare make themselves more important than their clientscanoe
- And that's too bad for the photographer because we have over a million dollars just in 5 Land Rover remods, and I let him go. 50k in work easy.canoe
- @monNom thanks :)********
