Having a custom harness made for my dog. I've been calling around to upholstery shops looking for the right people to help me get it made.
Call one shop, highly revered for their custom work, the moment they hear the words seat belt, they withdraw and start saying liability. I start laughing and repeat the word "dog". They stand on "liability".
So, I explain to them that I don't think the harness at the dog store or one bought online is strong or secure enough to be considered a seat belt, nor do I believe the NTSHA has effective ratings or standards for them. So, there is no liability where there is no mandate.
LIABILITY.
To which I say... "Oh, okay. I get it, you're telling me you can't make something stronger than a $10 strap I bought off Amazon, even if I bring you genuine BMW seat belt components? Thanks for the heads up."
They hung up.
Every other shop after them was more than accommodating and one even surprised me to pretty much guarantee my business...
"We have a seat belt sewing machine. Can you come in on the 2nd?"
Wait, what?
"The machine is pre-programmed to make the required patterns for each end of the seat belt as well as the safety loop."
*blankly stares at computer screen*
The 2nd sounds great.
- TBF I wouldn't take that business either.monNom
- fair if you don't want the work. but there is no liability in creating something i request with the understanding it's not a seat belt meant to harness a human.imbecile
- What's up with the toxic negative energy Noms? @imbecile, I'm glad that it worked out for you and that you feel your dog is traveling safer.canoe
- @Noms, why are you so passive aggressive? It's like you could care less about the thread, but really care on shooting down the author.canoe
- He's talking about liability, not about the business itself. He clearly found someone to fulfill the job, so who gives a fuck if you wouldn't take the project?canoe
- As if you even do this kind of work, right? Is that what you do - show up in conversations that you know nothing about and be disagreeable?canoe
- You act like you're some kind of "nice guy next door", but you're not. In fact, you're too stupid to know that smart people can smell your shit a mile away.canoe
- So you can eat that Robert Burns line and cough up your own self awareness. Troll.canoe
