Have any of you fine folks ever had a hernia? I've been dealing with some lower abdomen pain that feels like a muscle strain. It gets aggravated when I go for a run and do my morning exercises. Been having some achy feels and fever the past few days and wondering if it's all related. I see my doc tomorrow but if anyone has any experience to share it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

    • Had two, one on each side... was like having a third ball a lot of the time , don’t remember any fevers, all stitched up in end (over sharing again)dee-dubs
    • Had one in my early 20s, never hurt so I put off surgery for years.i_monk
    • Could be appendicitis? Get to the doc quick if you’ve got a fever.monNom

I need to build a website for my mom's pet sitting business. its main priority is allowing users to book dates, maybe add on a grooming option, add any notes they may have, and then process payments for it.

I've been looking at booking systems and every single one requires a paid signup to even look at its options. AI site-building services are the same. can't explore options or try them out to see if they even do what I want without throwing down cash first.

is my best bet Wordpress and some kind of plugin?

    • Yes to WP or do a simple Squarespace site - there's already a cart / all the accoutrement built-in... I think you just connect it up to a bank acct and goPonyBoy
    • If you're not gonna have the time for maintenance then don't go Wordpress.oey_oey
    • Personally I'm looking into an option where the client pays up to 25€ a month instead of paying me 75€ because either people don't want to pay that amount...oey_oey
    • ...of money or I don't want to be doing back-end stuff when I'm simply a designer. tired of that.oey_oey
    • So Squarespace seems the best option in the US because of the payment methods. Many swear on Wix despite me hating it.oey_oey
    • yeah, it needs to be boomer friendly and I don't want to do a lot of maintenance. checking out squarespace, thanks!scarabin
    • My cousins' kid is using this app :
      https://www.rover.co…
So far it's been a no-brainer for her
      Gnash
    • She uses that now. Wish i could paste some rover code onto her site and be done with itscarabin
    • Maybe i should just put a “book now” button that links to her rover profile? That feels like a hack but i don’t know if i can compete with their form systemscarabin
    • ^ I’d do that - Link to rover. She’d probably benefit more from a Facebook / insta pageGnash
    • https://wordpress.or…imbecile
    • 100% agree with Gnash.pusherbot
    • webflow - super easy, has a 'logic' section for creating a booking flow.shapesalad
    • What problem are you trying to solve exactly? Does Rover take too high of a % and/or do they not offer extra services like grooming?whatthefunk
    • It bothers me that rover is a collection of thousands of competitors and we’re taking potential clients right to them. Same reason i don’t sell art on etsyscarabin
    • Ppl find her through rover often though, so i think she should keep using it. A branded, standalone solution would be nice also though. Seems more professionalscarabin
    • Acuity scheduling seems robust. I added it to a squarespace site and it’s cool so far. together they’re like $30/mo https://www.squaresp…scarabin
    • For booking, my wife uses Amelia for Wordpress. It was like $180 lifetime or $80 year. Works great! https://wpamelia.com…ArmandoEstrada

How do you get a song out of your head?

I love Primus... LOVE them but I have fucking Claypool in my head going 'Hiyaa!! HiyEEYawww!!!' from their 'damned blue collar tweekers' tune... over and over... I've tried playing other music / putting on a show or the news... anything to distract myself for a moment. Then I'll sit back down to work or to settle into a chore and the next thing you know I'm singing 'HIYYYYAAA!!' behind my eyes...

I'm ruining one of my favorites bands / songs all on my own!! :(

If a bag of mixed nuts was an illicit drug, the Brazilian nut would be the filler.

A dude who I follow on YouTube reviews cycling equipment and apps on his channel. Maybe 4 months ago we ran across eachother on Reddit and I plugged/endorsed this app I had been using on my Garmin for the last year or so. Two months later I see this guy has not only responded to me on Reddit, he has spent the last two months reviewing the product, and has posted a video on YouTube, racking up almost 30k hits.

Out of nowhere last night I decided to contact the developer of the app I endorsed, just to find out what happened to him after his app appeared on YouTube.

He responded to me: "yes, june and july were a bit nuts with all the extra traffic. thank you very much! i'll give you a free lifetime ultimate subscription later this afternoon"

Based off the hit count, even if only 10% of viewers subscribed to his lowest subscription level for the app ($5USD/yr), the dude made $15k off the video.

For one Reddit comment and one YouTube post I'd say that's a pretty fucking good outcome!

Moral of the story: even if it's not your own idea, support the good work and efforts of others, it doesn't cost you a thing and who knows the benefits it will reap.

Wanted to change the direction my fridge door opens. So looked it up on youtube and found out I just needed to remove a couple of bolts and attach it again on the other side.

Unfortunately one bolt just kept spinning. As it was within warranty I contacted support who first wanted to just send a new bolt attachment plate. It took some time to convince them that a new plate would not help me remove the current bolt.

So they sent a technician after 2 weeks who within 10 minutes said the whole fridge would need to be replaced. But support wanted a special technician to look at the bolt. So 3 weeks later he came and 10 minutes later came to the same conclusion and said I would be contacted by support about what would happen next.

That was three weeks ago, so now I've sent a politely angry mail to support to hear when I can expect to hear from them.

    All because of one bolt....

    • All because you started taking it apart?monospaced
    • all because you want nice things!pango
    • Likely there is a nut spot welded inside the door sheet metal that has broken free. What a waste to replace a whole fridge for that.monNom
    • You might try to pull up while turning the bolt to give the nut some friction against the sheet metal.monNom
    • Or you might just cut the bolt off and use a different one to put it back together.monNom
    • the repair men did try using a screwdriver to create tension to turn it. Didn't work.Nutter
    • Should have tried on day one to reside the door. I would use a metal saw to cut it off and continue with the fix.shapesalad
    • As it is still within warranty and that would most likely break said warranty it would be a bad idea in my opinion.Nutter
    • that’s fair.monNom

I picked up this huge, framed limited edition signed print at the weekend. It's already hanging in my studio and is the artwork for Robert Wyatt's album Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard painted by his wife Alfie.
Thing is that this is the first time I have ever inherited things from a friend who recently passed away. He left me all his records, mostly Pink Floyd, Gong etc and hundreds of CD's including all the Krautrock a man can handle. It still feels weird as I have never inherited anything before, even my dad never left me anything 20 years ago, but it still feels weird having all this guys stuff in my house and he really loved the maddest of music. I'll not part with the picture though as it will always remind me of him but I may redistribute his CD's amongst my friends as I already have too many of them to be honest.
I dread the thought of my mum passing as she has so much stuff I probably have to rent a storage unit to put it all in and then worry about what to do with it all, ironic really as the book I'm reading at the moment is called The Joy of Less.

    • That's a really cool painting. As much as Krautrock inspires me, I'm not sure I could listen to it all the time. Dude must have really loved you.PhanLo
    • He was very poorly for many years, I took him to football matches and gigs though when I lived down south.Gardener

I thought I'd expand the story of how I met my friend who passed recently which goes back to the mid 90's, I was painting a writer friend of my mum's house. Oddly enough he offered to pay me in records as he was mad keen on CD's at the time so was given his collection of folk, Fairports, Pentangle etc - no complaints from me! Anyway his cleaner happened to mention her son who was disabled and near blind was big into music and would I like to come and chat to him, so one afternoon I did. We hit it off really well as he was a bit older than me and he had been to lots of interesting gigs and festivals so we chatted a lot about music and football. He was a massive Northampton Town fan so I ended up taking him to matches, play off finals etc and we then went to a lot of gigs together. He collected art, books and was fairly obsessed with Robert Wyatt/Soft Machine so he spent a small fortune on the print - 1/100 and then a further fortune getting the bugger framed.

When I got the call he had passed from COVID his carer told me I need to come down to her house near where he lived to collect boxes of stuff he had bequeathed me. He was really into Can, Popol Vuh and most of all Faust. His carer told me how he had considered the night we went to see Faust play in Milton Keynes was one of the best nights of his life. It was a pretty incredible night all round really as hardly anyone was there, perhaps 20 people tops and when the band played a blinding set - including an angle grinder on railway tracks solo! and then they all came out to the bar afterwards and sat and chatted to the group of us that had remained and drank with us for over an hour and signed stuff and that, they were really lovely chaps and it certainly left a big impression on my friend. I had not seen him for a while as I have moved to Scotland in the past few years but we spoke on the phone often, I'll miss him as he was very knowledgeable about stuff and really was a very kind and lovely man. He is now buried next to his mum in the local graveyard.

FILM REVIEWS: Over the past 2 days I've watched Barbie and Oppenheimer at the cinema. Barbie talks about the patriarchy, albeit in a comedic way, being controlling and destructive, maybe like a religion or deity. Oppenheimer was literally showing the patriarchy on the edge of destroying the planet, just in a less comedic way. Both films I really enjoyed for completely different reasons.

    Both 8.5/10
