I'm mid-30's, single, no kids. In a good place now with a good job and situation and skills, but still single.
My 20's were kinda rough, mostly because of insecurities and therefore failures.
I grew up relatively privileged, so I don't have a lot of excuses.
Lately I've been thinking of all the failed relationships or job interviews, things I did that were dumb or didn't go for, or shitty jobs I had in my 20's just to get by, when I believed I deserved better, but couldn't figure it out.
Namely thinking of one girl in college that I was in love with that I had a chance with but didn't date or make a move on because of insecurities. And 1 job opportunity at 25 that I got fired from because of ego and me clashing with a coworker. There's a few more female crushes I should have pursued that were complicated at the time and I didn't know how to handle and I still think about.
Ultimately, this made me who I am and I'm ok now and I don't know what tomorrow will bring.
But thinking back, I feel like I could have had it so easy and everything was right there for me.
- Mid thirties is a perfect time to chart a course for the rest of your life. If you want kids and a partner, you are in a great place to make that happen.monNom
- aww mate. I know that feeling. I wasn't so privileged but had a great woman who wanted kids when i was 30. I bailed and now live with that regret.Ianbolton
- But yeah, today is today and hopefully you can find value in waking up tomorrow and trying again. Stick in there buddy, and Merry singledom Christmas.Ianbolton
- There are scads of ladies around their thirties that want nothing more than a man in a stable position that can be a good father to their children.monNom

I'd just like say Merry Christmas. There's generally not a day goes by in which I haven't got my head in a thread on QBN. I sometimes talk to friends about QBN and they're like "what? it's a fucking website you geeky cunt, get out and experience the world". But actually, I do that too.
I feel like QBN brings talking points and understanding of global issues, it allows me to engage in other designery things which I don't really get in my small role, it also brings a connection which I actually feel so many people which they had - or maybe that's a bit too sentimental!
Next year I wanna step up and do some serious design work. I'm being pushed more into management, but I don't want to lose the creative side of things. I wanna do more music and more writing too. But for now, thanks for existing and thanks for everyone's input into this site. And maybe in another 10 years i'll write another mildly intoxicated post like this again. Until then, off ya fuck you wonderful bastards and thanks for being there for each other - not just for me.

I cleaned up and used my old Mamod traction engine today, this was an Xmas gift from mum & dad in 1970 and it STILL WORKS! I think I even still have the box somewhere. Believe it or not I don't play with it every day but considering the amount of times I've moved house, lived overseas and had several possession culls over the years (including records) it's the oldest toy I have ever kept.

Spending this Festivus in my home town and I'm bored out of my mind
My parents have locked all of their computers with BIOS passwords, which they of course do not remember. Apparently all BIOS passwords can be bypassed with a master password or a jumper/switch on the motherboard.
Got congratulated by my drunk cousine who "respects me and thinks I'm a good looking man".

omg I wish I was recording...
I just had this call from some scammer — we didn't even get to the scam (I fucked w/him at every turn) but I sure had a lot of fun driving him crazy for a good 5 minutes.
2 best parts of the call:
1. Making it seem like I was hard of hearing... I had the guy literally screaming into the phone for 4 out of 5 mins (I had it on speaker and was forcefully yet gleefully made to turn it way down)
2. I made up some near unrecognizable accent and pronounced my name as 'Ura Esole'... he asked me to spell it... I slowly was spelling out U-R-A... A-S-S-H-O-L-E... but he screamed to me 'You are a bastard!!' and something else I couldn't make out before I could give him the L and E.Tuesday's has been fun. <3

I've just checked the website for the place we're going to eat at tonight. If I had a checklist of everything I cannot be bothered with it'd score them all. I can't not go. I dearly wish I couldn't.
There's a bunch of my partner's friends going, and I know exactly which one chose this place, the fucking pretentious cunt.
Just give me a lump of seared meat, or just a sodding burger.
I've not been this sort of a pretentious cunt for a couple of decades now, if ever, but when did I turn into my father exactly?!
.
Also, it's really expensive. Yaay. Why go to any of the numerous and fundamentally decent and well-priced 'trattorie' around about when there's a place we can go that has a choice of three small portions of food I've no interest in, austere-looking staff and a high price tag?
I've started drinking in advance. Not solely because I've seen how expensive the drinks menu is.

I hate the laws around domestic violence here in the States. If you can't 'prove' a woman is in trouble without some physical evidence chances are the authorities will do nothing and the woman will continue in the abusive relationship... I think by now most of us here understand this to be the case (frustratingly so).
Last night as I was pulling into my parking spot I noticed a very tall man pushing a much smaller woman / girl around a car four spots over from mine. It looked almost like a Father and Daughter just playing / pretending to fight... the closer I got to them I could see that certainly was NOT the case. The girl was actually trying to get away from him - he pushed her into the back of a car, she nearly fell / caught herself and stepped back and made her way around to the front of the car, then around to the other side of the car and proceeded to walk out of the carport towards our apartments (crying and with a little speed). He followed but was about 5-6 feet from her (I was now watching in my driver's side mirror - I know he saw me pull in and that's why he eased up for a second). Out of nowhere he sped up and caught up w/her and either popped her hard in the back of the head or grabbed her by the hair and jerked her head hard in a forward motion.
I rolled my window while dialing 911 so I could hear / lean out and see what was going on - the dude was at least 6 ft. I had nobody else in the parking lot to help... so I just called 911 feeling like a fucking pussy in the process.
I talked to 911, they transferred me to to local cops... blah blah - 8-10 mins go by and man and woman and I have now gone inside. I told my wife I wanted to run down and meet the cop and show them the car it looked like they came out of (so they could find what apartment they might be in). As I'm heading down the stairs I realize they're in the same stairwell as me somewhere around the first or second floor (I'm up on the third)... it appeared she was trying to leave (they had made it up to the second floor apartment but she obviously went for the staircase and wanted out). A moment later she was down to the first floor and outside the building but he caught her and held her there — I could hear either him punching the door or throwing her into it but couldn't see anything. Like an idiot I made my way down to the second floor where they just were.... there was a bit of blood on the wall (bright red - it was very fresh) and also blood smeared on the banister heading right downstairs to where they were now fighting (I snapped a pic of the blood on the banister and headed back up just out of site).
I hopped back on 911 to let them know the dispute had moved to the second floor and now back down to the first floor and outside the building - I mentioned the blood on the hallway wall and banister etc...
Another 5+ mins go by... I'm still on the second floor and I can see down the stairs to the door of which they're standing on the other side. The door flies open and I of course bolt upstairs... I can hear both of them moving quickly up to the second floor and I'm guessing it's because the cops just arrived (Looking out the hallway window I can see a police vehicle slowly making it's way to our building).
Needless to say - there were no arrests... I don't think the police even noticed the fresh blood. Three cops cars showed up. They hung around for about 15 mins then left. They ended up parking in the lot across the street for a good hour — all the cops hanging out talking around their vehicles (perhaps sticking around to make sure another call didn't come in?).
A couple hours later I took the pup out for a late night walk. The blood was still on the wall and banister (I don't think the cops got the message I gave 911 about the blood... I figured that might be enough for them to at least check and make sure she hadn't been hurt). There's fresh blood on the wall and someone just called saying they saw a woman getting knocked around - that should be enough for them to step up their actions in this case... yes?? :(
By early this morning the blood was gone (nearly). The banister had been wiped clean but the patch on the wall at the top of the stairs still had a bit of a smear / red blur to it as it had begun to dry and stain.
SO... FUCKING... FRUSTRATING.
I hope she's okay but I fear we'll all find out in the near future that "something tragic happened to her". :(
- TL;DR: Domestic violence rarely results in an arrest—I watched a woman get smacked around / possibly bloodied up last night—got 911 involved but no arrests. :(PonyBoy
- Wow! So the police didn’t even knock on the door? Insane.monospaced

I fucked up bad.
I've got another six days overseas and have somehow only got six tea-bags remaining, so one cup a day.
That's no good - I need at least two or three a day.
How could I mess up such basic math?!
- Don't be greedy, it's better to skip a day than drinking recycled tea :) it feels great to know that I'm the only one who f this up sometimes :)sted

This whole generative art thing depressed me at first. Then I remembered the joy I get from the process of creating something by myself. Pressing a button to make a computer generate something would be missing the point.
Obviously, the profession of being an illustrator seems threatened. But that'll never stop me from enjoying creating stuff.

Currently: staying in a .. I have no idea what it is, but a shared boarding house, on the top of a large hill covered in a medieval village which takes about a minute and a half to walk around, along with thirty Italians and my half Italian daughter. Outside loud mopeds, fireworks and the constant background scent of sulphur.
I had a panic beforehand, because the EUR150 in booze my partner bought apparently didn't include red wine. Thankfully someone else covered that with two giant 30ltr 'bottles' of vino rosso (and white, which I don't much drink)
There's half a pig, half a boar, and a literal sack of rosemary potatoes cooking in multiple pizza ovens as I sit outside smoking a quick cig, listening to the incessant 15 minute call of the local church bells.
Going to be an interesting couple of days... .

Moved into my new work space this weekend.
A 30 by 30 with high ceilings, finished concrete, and 3 bay doors. Super stoked to move in, until all of my metal shelves, tables and three cars went in. Now it’s just a huge garage.
Organizing this is going to take a month.
