2023's off to a good start so far. Burnt my thumb on an errant sparkler that was heading for my daughter's face, then ten minutes later fumbled in the dark as I went upstairs to check what she was up to, catching my toe on a bed leg and spilling red wine on the pillows of two kids beds. Quick panicked mop up before realising I'd be better off just running away before I was caught by an adult, or worse yet, a child.

    Oh dear.

    Happy New Year everyone!
I'm on my way to bed, everybody's sick for weeks so we stayed home.

Let 2023 be even greater than 2022!

It’s my sons 5th birthday today. We threw a neighborhood party and having all the kids and parents here gives me hope for the future. Happy new year.

This was the scene at the harbour in Arbroath at lunchtime for what is known up here in Scotland as The New Year Dook. Folk old & young get in the sea (yes it's freezing cold but apparently that's the point) It's all over in 15 minutes and around 50 people took part - usually to raise money for charity and I though I didn't do it this year I have done in the past. I used to go to the one in Broughty Ferry a few miles down the coast but the organisers have ruined it with loudspeakers playing generic pop music and burger vans everywhere, Arbroath keeps it real with a lone piper playing as folk wade into the water which is much better.

What age did you have kids at?
Do you think it was the right age or would you have waited? Or were you too old?

    • I had my first kid at 37. Another at 42 this year. I wish life had made it possible to have them younger. It would be easier.l for sure.monospaced

Do you follow on instagram, the cute girl you worked with for a summer, a decade ago, who now works in Germany?

What if there was some attraction but nothing happened and you haven't talked since?

What if her account is private? And you haven't thought of her in so long but for some reason just did. Is that what Instagram is for?

I haven't smoked for three days, at first I had no idea of quitting, but I think it's enough to play with my health.

I think the last cigarette I smoked on New Year's Eve 2022 will be the last of my life.

    Cough, coughrghghrl!!

    • you can do it!VapeNation
    • Come on man - stop the smokes!stoplying

    • The first time I quit, I bought a pipe, accessories, and some pipe tobacco blends. At first I couldn’t help breathing the smoke in...maquito
    • ...every time I did so, it burned my throat, until I learned and begun enjoying the flavors. It helped a lot, specially since its preparation and “ceremony”.maquito

    • You quit smoking by smoking? That’s not how it works.monospaced
    • Mono, it depends. You don’t breathe the pipe smoke in, unlike cig smoke. It helped with my habit, and then I also left the pipe. Cold tukey is not easy.maquito
    • However, there’s always the chewing gum, patches and shit... but the habit is a bitch anyways.maquito
    • Pipe tobacco, as well as puros or cuban cigar’s, smoke is not inhaled but kept in mouth.maquito
    • +1Fax_Benson
    • My dad stopped smoking cigarettes after 40 years and picked up cigars instead. at first he did it like maquito as a way to ease off cigs, not inhaling etc_niko
    • slowly over time, keeping it in his mouth wasn't enough and he started inhaling, 1,2 then 3 cigars a day until he reached 7 per day. 1 cigar = 1 pack of cigs_niko
    • fast forward to a couple of months ago when docs told him he had throat cancer. They then said we're not too concerned about it, what we are concerned_niko

This is the year. I am finally fully mentally committed to finishing the music project I've been slowly working on for several years. I love the start of a new year, the clean slate, the goal setting and the reinvention and I think I'm ready to devote the time I need to getting it done. All the song ideas are there in rough form... I don't need to make any new songs, I just need to focus.

Less phone scrolling, more music making. Less procrastination, more getting it done. :)

Visited Düsseldorf in Germany today. The weather was very bad, grey rain and wind, but I have the feeling this city somehow has the energy I like. Lots to explore the next time.
