Went to bed at around 4:30am as I'm buried in a time sensitive project. Mrs. PB leaves @ about 6:15am for work... at 6:35 she calls me to tell me the keys she grabbed won't unlock the car (she grabbed mine which only work manually) and demands I grab her set and run them out to her (I'm in bed... pair of shorts on and nothing else). Mind you - it's freezing out (a tick just above 0°C) and it's pouring rain.

She's in a panicked mood which usually means she's impatient and demanding (we are very much the same when either of us gets in this mood)... more importantly we both stop paying attention to what's we're doing when we start to trip out so of course I threw on jeans and hauled ass downstairs while still on the phone with her... while doing so I begged her to relax and stand in our little garage area out of the rain, that I'd be down in 30 seconds.

15 seconds go by - I'm in the stairwell and I hear the wretched awful sound of our car alarm going off along w/the loud shrill of a 5'4" blond whom is late for work... I begin to run while squeezing the shit out of the 'unlock' button (this will shut off the car alarm)... *squeeze *squeeze *squuuuuueeeeeeeze *shrilllllll *squeeeze SHRILLLLLLNESS (and her punching the driver's side window once I could see her)... *Beep *Beep... alarm off... shrillness subsides. She then looks at me w/exhausted eyes and gently says "Thank you".

I smile, give her a big hug... smack her on the ass and point north as that's the direction she needs to start driving... she giggles... allllll is well again.

    Nope.

20 mins go by... I'm back in bed... CPAP on, pup cuddled in on one side - kitty on the other and out of nowhere the front door SLAMS open. Both animals panic as my name is shouted at the top of my wife's lungs.

I of course spring up and rip the CPAP nonsense off my head and run to her... "It's gone... I can't find it... there's no way it survived... it's gone... it's just gone... IT'S GONE!!!"

    "What's gone, Babe?!!!"

"My phone... it was on top of the car when I left. I was so late for work and angry that I must have left it on top of the car."

I'm dizzy and standing in my underwear @ 7am wondering how to fix this... the phone could be anywhere. So, I said "fuck it... let's go retrace the path you just drove and see what we find".

It only took 5 minutes but we found it!! We drove slowly in rush hour traffic (raining / foggy... ugly out). It was sitting in the middle of the main road right in the turning lane about 1/3 a meter from actual traffic... 100% undamaged. When I bought the phones I was sure to get lexan screen guards and to wrap these fuckers in otterboxes as my wife and I are complete dicks to our phones.

She was 35 minutes late for work this morning... but all is well... I just wanted you all to know. <3

For unknown reasons, US snack products are a thing in Denmark (maybe just Copenhagen), and because of import taxes on things like sugar, they sell for ridiculous prices.

1 regular bag of Cheetos: $8,50
1 regular bag of Funyuns: $6,50
1 small bag of Takis: $5,00
1 can of US soda: $3,50

And yes, people buy them for some reason.

I very, very occasionally buy the soda flavors we don't get here, I admit. Cream soda, Vanilla Coke and Fanta variants like grape are favorites.

    • tariff taxutopian

    • The only reason I've paid attention to this is I keep an eye out for sodas that don't have fucking artificial sweeteners, BUT US stuff is HFCS-laden shite.Nairn
    • @Beeswax the candy/soda smuggling was an actual thing like 10 years ago. There was a huge crackdown. It is no more. You're too late ;Djagara

We're almost finished converting our attached garage into a fully functioning, heated home office/hang room. Our 890 sq foot home was reaching capacity and the old garage was basically a storage unit. Bikes, clothes, skateboards, food, and stuff that we weren't quite ready to throw out yet. We needed to make the most of an unused space. We have a small 6' x 10' shed which we're going to upgrade to a 12' x 16'.
We hired a general contractor to demo, insulate, sheetrock, and frame a wall in front of the garage door. So from the street it still looks like a garage, but once inside it's hard to tell. We added 6 wafer recessed lights on dimmers, two big closets, LVT flooring over the cement and a nice mini-split heat/ac unit which was installed yesterday as I finished painting the trim and closets. We also got a new smart tv which is the first new tv I've bought in over 15 years. What an upgrade! This is such a nice update for our home and my boys are so excited, it's great to see. Now back to my side work so i can pay for this.

    • hopefully local council don't do you for breaking planning laws.shapesalad

My new job starts a full 2 hours after my last one. But after year's of taking 7am morning meetings (meaning I need to wake up at least an hour before to be functional) I cannot sleep in.

I try so hard to stay up, even trying to not watch tv in bed which will sure-fire put me to sleep in minutes. Still totally passed out by 10 at the latest. How do I break this cycle? I don't even have to open my eyes until 8am now. But I find myself wide awake at 5am every goddamn day. Maybe coffee at night?

I heard a story on the radio this morning about Chat GPT bot. It can generate written content - very decent content - by typing in a request into a prompt. The radio host told it to generate a paragraph about frogs for an NPR radio segment. The generated content was spot on. Then it was told to generate it poem form, again...rhymes were on time. Kids are using it to cheat on school assignments, but this is some seriously crazy stuff. What a fucked up world we're starting to untangle

Just went to go grab some beer for the weekend at the liquor store and bumped into an old friend and band mate. We played together back in 1990-91 and recorded a little demo together. Great seeing and talking with him and it turns out he's posted it to a free music archive site. Awesome to hear these old jams again!
