Speaking of mentioning QBN in job interviews (from robotinc's post) ... isn't it a QBNer who created the Feeld dating app?

Reason I ask is that there's a job listed on the website (yes, I'm a user), and it sounds really interesting. Maybe I'll drop a LOLcube reference in my covering note.

    • title the covering note "FUCK YOU CANDY!"microkorg
    • What are the chances that QBNer sees your resume?i_monk
    • Probably slim.
Still, it'd be worth it if he did, it's a great CV.

I cleaned out a metric shit ton of temp files, redundant registry entries, shortcuts, yadda yadda earlier - clawed back many Gigas from my SSD bootdrive (fuck you in particular, Adobe) and now my machine feels like it's running slower.

    <rant>

2 AM, woken up with something like a 10 l Diesel truck engine sound on my head, with a sore throat and memories of a nightmare with my wife involved on it.

After an atypical calm start of week... Received a pair of mail bombs that have turned all the planning upside down, again.

    Tired of this work-sleep-work thing.

I do 1 hour walkings with wife, everyday, but only around the town (we're on perimeter lockdown), rains all day, then, no bike.

I miss the sea, I miss to be alone in somewhere NEW.

I miss my friends, our bbq thursday parties, our artsy chitty chats...

But above all... I'm BORED of our "bubble pack of friends".

Ok, back to sleep. Good night, locos!! :)

Looking for a little advice around being offered shares as part of a job offer, if anyone has experience.

Im in the final round of talks with two tech companies about new roles, both pretty exciting. :)

Role 1 - Higher salary, good bonus, healthcare, dental, pension, no shares.

Role 2 - Lower salary, no benefits, 2500 company shares.

The company offering shares have been though 2 rounds of funding and are planning on going to IPO next year. I really know nothing about all this shares / IPO stuff - its totally new to me. Is there a big opportunity to make some cash here with the shares? Sounds like a bit of a gamble but might be worth it. Any advice from anyone that has been offered shares as part of a sign on package?

I just met Jewish client outside, as he needed to hand over more material. As we're chatting, some nutter walks up and looks at the two of us and asks "Have you heard about the Rothschilds?", to which I respond "Yeah, actually - I sorta know one." "Which one?" "Lionel Rothschild - he's a really nice guy" "Is he the one who's something to do with Zoos?" "I dunno, maybe?". After which, he pulls out a pamphlet magazine and offers it to us, my client taking one unquestioningly. As he goes to pass one to me he says "You know that Covid is man-made, right?" at which I look down at the pamphlet and see some section about JFK and the Zionists and I say "nah, thanks, man - i'm ok". Awkward pause, guy fucks off, clearly-Jewish client ends up taking an anti-zionist pamphlet home.

For Gardener up there with some top Glastonbury content takes me back to my own fun photo story–

I went to Glastonbury once (2006 i think) and took an SLR, snapping loads of stuff in the mud and all that. We ended up on Saturday night in the Bugged Out tent, watching Erol Alkan play. I took a load of pictures of him DJing and we were all smashing back plenty of party 'garnishes'.

I ended up quitting the job I had at the time and went to a new design agency, as they had some dance music clients and i was all into it. Anyway I get chatting to the owner / boss and he was saying that he was pals with Erol Alkan – and said he was with him at Glastonbury. I was like "yeah we were there too!" The next day (without co ordinating) we brought in our pictures of the night and sure enough, he was in my pictures behind the decks with Erol, and I was down the front with my mates and we all seemed to be looking very intently in some small bags. Can't imagine what we were looking for.

So yeah, first week on the job and my boss knows EACTLY what i got up to on weekends!

Anyone build a proper garden room / office?

Been watching YouTube videos of folk making timber framed garden rooms/offices either set on concrete or raised from ground on drilled piles. Doesn't look like anything too challenging as long as you have the time, the right tools and a thought-out design.

A large garden room (office, small half pipe and shed incorporated) would be around £30k but self build would be way less than a third of that.

    • When I read this I thought a garden room was a garden inside a room but it's actually a room on a garden.

    @microkorg

I did one like this through the summer - admittedly had a bit of help from a friend who's a builder, but it's not too too hard. Coming next will be a deck and a storage shed that sits to the left of the cabin (will be the same style) and will kind of seclude an area where our patio furniture will go. I went wit the post holes mostly for cost, but also because we have a bit of slope in that part of our back yard to contend with, and the deck will be tiered down from there.

Nevermind my wife's derelict bike I've been telling her to bring in for ages.

I've yet to put a small awning up over the door, with lighting I designed, and since these photos were taken, the door's been painted black.

All of the cladding is Yakisugi, including the roof - we designed floating roof so we didn't have to do shingles or corrugate.

We've put more art up in here since these pics... once it's final.FINAL I'll post some more.

I don't know what building regs are like in the UK but here you can build something like this without permit as long as it's under 108sqft and doesn't impede on a few other rules regarding property lines and occupancy ratios.

    No half pipe, unfortunately.

Had a run-in with a junky this morning. I took a detour to get a bacon roll from Greggs and caught up with a junky junkying down the street, bottle of prescription tablets in hand, swagger swagger swagger, junky junky junky. He hoys the bottle of prescription tablets high up in the air and I think "aye, aye" and then, quite remarkably, catches them. Clever junky. He spies an old gadgie in front and junky darts towards him and I think "aye, aye, aye" and gadgie heads to Greggs, junky in tight behind and me following in formation, wondering what the junky's got in mind - I assume it's something to do with the old guy the way he's junkying up to him. Nope, turns out junky's just got his mad eye on some free doughnuts so grabs a pack from near the front entrance and about turns instantly, to make his escape. I'm in his way and I shout in his face, "oy you thieving junky cunt, put them back". Startled, he makes for his escape so I stay in his way and sort of square up to him and then wonder what the fuck I'm going to do next. For the briefest of picoseconds I consider head-butting him, but I guess some reptilian part of my brain still caught in the shadow of 80s AIDS hysteria vetoes the idea so we jostle a bit and then he sidles around me and runs off. I shout a series of obscenities after him, mostly consisting of 'cunt', 'useless' and 'parasite' and then fuckit, get on with getting my bacon roll.

I apologise to the people working in the shop who've not really got a clue what's just gone on. I tell them, but having seen other people nick stuff from Greggs, I know they're just going to shrug and get on with their day. The old gadgie turns to me after he's bought his tea and hands me a card. I look at it - "Jesus loves you", it says. "Naah, thanks" I say and hand it back, realising he thinks I'm the nutter here. He's probably not wrong. I get my roll and walk down, seeing if I can see the junky, but no - there's just the wailing of a siren and a police car speeding off the junction from where I'm to get my bus. I get on, irritated at the uselessness of my encounter and as the bus moves off, I see the target of the police car - my new junky friend. God knows what he'd done in the 2½ minutes since our encounter, but at least he'll get a slap on the wrists and a caution, or nothing at all, because who gives a fuck? Only me, the sad failed hero in my own dull tale.

    • whups, sorry, longNairn
    • It must be a miserable existence. Could you not have turned a blind eye?mort_
    • 'cunt', 'useless', 'parasite' - I would rethink how justify speaking to another human like that.mort_
    • *how you justifymort_
    • Do you not have some pissing dick pics to post?Nairn
    • Also, junkies aren't human.Nairn
    • Good for you, Sometimes they need to be put in their place. But more times than not this ends up with a shiv to the neck :(_niko
    • he's not useless or a parasite, a) he's sick b) he's poor and c) probably nobody gives a fuck about him, and finally d) you don't know how and why he got there, renderedred
    • judging people is easy...renderedred
    • other than that cool story and you're lucky you weren't stabbed.renderedred
    • Nobody chooses to be an addict. More often than not, it's rooted in childhood trauma. Some compassion, maybe?mort_
    • I only have so much compassion, that which I have I mete out to people who aren't junkies, so whatever. Never touch heroin kids, it's real fucking easy.Nairn
    • I was reactively judging the thieving of a non-essential item, not the fact of his junkiness per se, which as evidenced by his junky swagger, was quite clearNairn
    • I've seen too many otherwise smart and talented people fuck their lives up because of heroin - total fucking waste. They were smart enough not to start.Nairn
    • Nice writing but dude you are a fucking cop
      ********
    • At least real cops actually sell their soul. You're giving yours away for free.
      ********
    • I don't think you did anything wrong. I don't think compassion extends to ignoring and allowing petty theft in your neighborhood.monospaced
    • i'm more concerned about the fact you get your bacon roll from greggs. aren't there any decent greasy spoons around that part of town?hans_glib
    • lol hans, asking the hard questions! No, not really. Two near me - one's run by a muslim guy, so the bacon's terrible, the other's mediocre and expensiveNairn
    • Stupid thing was, I'd been up since 7 so should've just made one at home. Got some sliced pancetta in the fridge.
Could've saved a bit of drama.
      Nairn
    • Cunterman to the rescue!calculator
    • We have different perspectives on addicts, Nairn. And that's fine. I think your perspective is more likely to entrench the problem. So be it.mort_
    • This and the comments reads like an Irving Welsh rewrite of a scene from Falling Down.garbage
    • I get that you sympathize with junkies and feel compassion, but would you really allow them to commit crime because of that?monospaced
    • lol garbage.
      I once owned dfens.co.uk :)
It was all so sudden, it's not like I thought about it much at the time.
      Nairn
    • mort_ I have a lot of sympathy for addicts - I am one. I don't, however, have much sympathy for heroin users. Makes me a less than great person, but fuckit.Nairn
    • Not sure how I'd react mono. I am sure I wouldn't shout 'cunt', 'useless', 'parasite'. But that's me being judgemental so I guess I'm a hypocrite.mort_
    • they're generally problematic fucking nutters - most of the bullshit low level crime around here is due to them, and its increased over the recent yearsNairn
    • and i'm saying this from a direct perspective and experience, not just some "oh i read about it in the papers" shit.Nairn
    • Ya, I get you. And that's how we have different perspectives. I'm not exposed to that very regularly.mort_
    • I get what you're saying. There are bigger societal/sociologica... issues that cause this type of behavior, not the other way around. Imonospaced
    • https://youtu.be/ys6…mort_
    • Nairn, I'd be curious how you respond to the words of Gabor Mate in that vid.mort_
    • Watching now. Don't disagree. Don't see how it justifies nicking shitty doughnuts.Nairn
    • When you say 'judge' what you actually mean is 'generalise an average from experience'. Yes, I judge. Yes, they're junkies. No, i don't give a shit.Nairn
    • Just like everyone, reading this honestly. None, to very few of you actually do anything to help these people. Someone Else's Problem.Nairn
    • Do I think there should be more social support for them? Of course. Do I think they want to be cunts? Probably not. Do I have time for this shit? no.Nairn
    • Does 'why they are junkies' come into it at all?mort_
    • sure. also - why are a lot of people fucked? and what are their copoing mechanisms and failures? why are actually most people slightly fucked?Nairn
    • "Do I have time for this shit? no." — zing!mort_
    • i see three tribes of junkies in my day to day life. there was a fourth, about 80m away from where I sit now. but the Leader died two years ago.Nairn
    • "what are their coping mechanisms?" heroin, shopping, religion, alcohol, spirituality, weed, work, abusing others, etc.mort_
    • Years ago I woke up to a junkie trying to climb in my window (vancouver). Addiction makes people do some wild shit.ben_
    • lol 'abusing others' - touché.Nairn
    • @mort thanks for that vidrenderedred
    • Well done detritus, you are a good human being.
      ********
    • Nope, I'm not detritus. I have no idea why he/she verified me. But I was here in in the 2000s and forgot my login so had to create a new account.mort_
    • i'm detritus, or rather - was for a while.Nairn
    • ..as a username.

I am detritus now, and always will be otherwise.
      Nairn
    • Kind of a gross monologue but at least you were honest with it. You are the human condition.
      ********
    • It was intended to be self-deprecating and slightly pathetic, but 'gross'? I'm not sure I've got much truck with your mid-90s vernacular in this contextNairn
    • Keep it up though, as stoics must.Nairn
    • yeah, just kinda gross, I guess. Sorry my description wasn't to your liking.
      ********
    • cheers. Rolling that boulder up the hill daily.

    • Another classic Nairn blog post. Good for you.stoplying
    • Haha, I totally get your vibes Nairn. But then I get what Mort's on about too. Thankfully I live in a posh jewish part of Leeds with an addiction and....Ianbolton
    • would rather not see any heroin addicts in my life. But they exist and usually don't make it easy on themselves by robbing shit and generally being bellendsIanbolton
