I have a CD - 'Diesels through the decades' - which I tickled me as such things do whe you're in your early twenties, so bought it. I used to take it to friends' houses when we used to play video games and smoke all day, and I'd quietly stick it on their hifi or whatever and just leave it playing 'til someone went like "what the fuck IS that noise?!".

Oh, what a japer am I.

    .

I also found a plastic bag of really horrid porn mags in a shitty pub in Newcastle whiilst high on acid - one of which I'd take and just leave under settee cushions or whatever, at friend's houses, at friend's houses, for later discovery.

    The larks.

I tried doing a search to see if this was mentioned anywhere but I couldn't find it. Man would it ever be helpful to pin threads to appear at the top of the list.

Or even if not pinning, just like highlighting them so when you scan through the list you can see them easily. Hmm.. I wonder if I could do some custom CSS or something to do that...... . . . .

Yesterday was so great. I brought my boys 6 & 8 down to the lake to go skating and "play hockey". We brought our sticks and a puck and we would meet some neighbors and just goof around. I played hockey as a kid and my kids are learning (and improving).
We got onto the ice and saw some other guys looking to start a game so if they were okay with my kids playing, then we'd all join. There were two 50+ year old Polish dudes, a young high school stud, and a few other guys who clearly still play in mens leagues so the level of skill was up.
We played for over two hours with me holding my own, even scoring a few goals, and my kids did great. The best part was I would pass to my kids and everyone would back off and let them skate up to the goal and shoot. I was really touched by that and it was a really memorable day.
I'm so unbelievably sore today that it's laughable. Groaning every time I get up from a chair but it was so worth it.

Navigating screen time with kids during lockdown is really tricky. Reading some other kid's perspectives in this article is interesting and a little reassuring that it's ok, especially if you hear laughing and chats coming from their bedrooms.

stoplying inspired me share more skating related content. We're in a pretty heavy lockdown here in Ontario Canada, and it's -22 outside. So this just made sense. First rink I've ever built. Kids are happy, I'm happy, everyone's happy. This took some serious effort to put together, and some additional serious effort to maintain. Well worth said serious effort.

My accent must be stronger than I think - for some reason I've had two Scots people over the last couple of days ask me whereabouts in Scotland I'm from - to which I've apologised and said that not only was I not born there, I've never technically lived there either, which was met with furrowed, slightly disbelieving brows.

I'm used to English or foreign people asking, but not Scots. I've always thought I had quite a mongrel tongue.

    .

Oh, to admit that my Father sent me to elocution lessons when i was a kid, so as to get rid of my emerging Geordie accent, haha.

    Advice needed:

If you had a product / business idea that felt really viable, but didn't have the ability to bring it to life on your own, how cautious would you be in sharing the idea with someone who might be able to help or offer guidance?

I've got something that's been kicking around for a while, reached out to some friends to see if anyone knew someone in that space, and got connected with someone that can help in a discussion.

Anything specific I can do aside from sending people an NDA to protect my idea? I'm not going to share it here; just trust me it's better than shoe boxes...

    • Depends upon how 'moated' it is and how much I trust the people I'd share it with. I'd NOT rely on an NDA.Nairn

    • Figure out the thing(s) that make it difficult to copy and veil those behind "proprierary" process, technology, recipes, etc.monNom
    • But you've got to be able to discuss the general business idea with people if you hope to make it work.monNom
    • And if you don't have anything proprietary, you're in for a lot of competition anyway.monNom

Out of touch of conspiracy theory generation has become the mythology of modern times.

It makes the most ignorant to feel ahead of the society, they feel like they hold some precious knowledge that hasn't been gained by the masses especially by the learned, educated or "elite" as they love to think.
This inferiority complex is remedied by this feeling of privilege. They don't care about logic, explanation or proof.
The painful reality of their shared status is the only driving force.

The only treatment for them is the access to affordable education.
If quality education continues to be unattainable for them, they will continue to get stronger until they take over and live in a completely surreal world that they created and keep suffering.
