One of my good friend's friend is Chad Coleman (The Wire, Walking Dead, The Expanse). Im surprised I haven't met this guy sooner, but my wife and I got to hang with him last night. I asked him to guilt trip my wife into watching The Expanse.

I just woke up... with a unfinished dream, where I had just met a girl, beautiful, elegant and with lots of common tastes... I was asking her name, before ask her phone number, with my heart pumping crazy and while I was giving a pair of kisses on her cheeks... And so... I wake up!

Now here I am, sad and heartbroken, in tears, looking at clouds in balcony, like when I was this shy boy, in love, but alone...

Fuck, I am too old for this!

I never got that $15k raise that I asked for at work. Sooo I got it in the form of a new job. :)

A friend of mine recently moved to NYC, and he left behind an old Suzuki Samurai. It wasn't selling, and it didn't run so he was going to donate it. I said "Fuck that, free car".

This thing is a Beater with a capitol B. It looks deranged. Some of the previous owners have modded the hell out of this thing, and I'm still finding surprises. It hasn't moved since last October.

Curbside work: replaced the water pump, adjusted belts, re-spliced some wires from some junky's failed attempt to hotwire the damn thing. By some miracle we got it home, and it's currently curbed parked on the hill out front because the parking brake has gone out.

I'm new to this, but this is the way to learn. This is going to be fun as fuck, and my neighbors are going to hate me for having this monstrosity out in the open.

Are there any gearheads here / a better thread for this project?

Also open to any names for the beast.

    • NICE. The 12 year old inside me (ssh, don't tell the cops) would f'ing love one of these.

When someone close to you is sick and it's complicated. :'(

This has happened to me once before. A sick older sister who eventually passed away but we had a really torrid relationship from the time I was born to her eventual death, even though I helped her. She didn't appreciate what I did over the years for her and her family. Meanwhile, I was supporting my mom and step father (who had cancer at the time) although i'll never regret helping my very grateful parents and I'd do that again. My sister screwed me over pretty good, though. I struggle with the idea of doing that again with anybody but my surviving mother.

I like to think the best of people and naturally give them a lot of rope. But, other people's drama, health-related or not can be so all-consuming and I've seen it throw me off my path -- my dreams deferred. I'm getting older now. I want a family. And, I feel like I'm coming up on a really needed break for myself. If I refocus to help others I care about all of that could go away. What would you do? I'm grappling with this.

    • do what you feel is right and that enables you to prosper without anyone getting hurt. ideally. if it comes down it hurting you more than them well, nodocpoz

My wife and I bought a house! Moving back to KC to be closer to family. I have mixed emotions about it, but know, at least for now, it's the right move.

I will definitely miss Brooklyn, our neighborhood, the park, and our friends – but all of our family is in Missouri.

When we first moved to Brooklyn, we were just a couple looking to see if we could make it in NYC - and I think we've been really successful at that test. Now that we have twin 3 year olds, we think the right move is to be closer to family so our kids can know them better. This move was especially underscored after some recent loss – we have no idea how much time we have with anyone, so we should take advantage while we can. New York isn't going anywhere.

Both my wife and I are keeping our NYC jobs and working remotely with regular monthly trips back, so it kind of feels like that's kind of a win-win; lower bills (reduced by over half), actually owning something instead of wasting it on rent, proximity to family (but far enough away that they can't "pop in"), plus the opportunity to stay connected to our close friends in NYC.

I think working full-time remote (at least for myself) will be unsustainable for the long term - I don't think I'll be happy and will feel more isolated, but for the short term it's really attractive. I will give it an honest try though.... But I also know I need to hedge my bets and start reaching out to local contacts/agencies. Anyone with their ear to the ground on Sr.AD and above positions (agency or in-house), hit me up!

....and KC folk - we should grab beers in Sept. My new house is 4 blocks from Bier Station.
