Not so long ago I remember reading comments predicting life will not return to normal for years and thinking this was too pessimistic. Now it's easy to see how this could be true...

Developing countries have nothing close to the supply of vaccines that they need and probably won't until 2022 at best. For instance Moderna recently announced they are no longer accepting orders in SE Asia, at the same time there is a massive surge of cases here. Meanwhile in many countries the percent vaccinated is still in the single digits.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/as…

First world countries may be feeling better with a majority of their population vaccinated and restrictions easing in some places. But if the pandemic goes on for years in other parts of the world, who's to say new strains of the virus won't emerge that undermine all the progress so far?

    • Those new strains were a point i raised below. It's worrying. Unless a pandemic is viewed as the global problem it is, then we are all still at riskIanbolton
    • Half of contamination in France are vaccinated people that have caught the delta variant. That is why they want to go for a third shot.ApeRobot
    • Meanwhile, developed countries have vaccines for everyone, and are opening up if you have one, but people STILL bitch and whine like it's a problemmonospaced
    • ^good for developed countries they should keep ALL the vaccines for themselves anyway :) who gives a fuck about the poor and undeveloped?renderedred
    • *the poor should die anyway, right pharmabro?renderedred
    • There are vaccines available mostly everywhere, but half the populations are retarded so anti-vaxxers so this will continue for years...grafician
    • And politicians ease the restrictions because keeping them is political suicide -which they care about more than the health of the populationgrafician
    • ^it will be exactly the same with global warming - nothing will get done because of political feargrafician
    • Careful with those over-generalized comments. Those I know not taking vaccines (yet) are Dr's and ER nurses.formed
    • Hardly anti-vaxxers, they are simply weighing the risks. We barely know what these vaccines will/can do (new J&J warning for instance).formed
    • For me, it was better to get the vaccine as I already have neurological challenges (narcolepsy), but seeing J&J's warning is discomforting. We just don't know.formed
    • ^nooo, @pharmabromono says different and he's always right ;)renderedred
    • *and yes, one of the doctors and a nurse that told me not to take the vaccine both work in the ER toorenderedred
    • Unfortunately vaccines are NOT widely available everywhere. A mix of irrational fear in 1st world and poor health systems in 3rdmonospaced
    • I don’t believe your anecdotes. That doctor and nurse are required to be vaccinated to even work in an ER btw.monospaced
    • lol at making fun of me while claiming to be right yourself you hypocritical, science denying clown assmonospaced
    • @formed not careful at all: many doctors or nurses know shit about vaccines, just because they are doctors don't mean they can't be anti-vaxxers lolgrafician
    • but I was referring to the general population anyway, but you can still include doctors, lawyers, tech guys, etc. a degree doesn't make you smartgrafician
    • globalization in reversedrgs
    • no dr. mono, both didn't take the vaccine. they wear masks and that's what they told me to do, and i am doing it. you are a propaganda guzzling machine my man.renderedred
    • and i'm not wasting one more second on you and your opinion. go take your booster shot and be safe...renderedred
    • What is the amount of actually effective vaccines produced so far vs. world population? It can't be close...yuekit
    • Considering your weak af anecdote, and that your conclusion is likewise a mere naive opinion, less relevant than mine, I welcome your silence on the matter.monospaced
    • No propaganda here either. I have many many more personal hospital staff anecdotes than you, and they are contrary. By your logic I am correct.monospaced
    • sure pharmabro, sure...renderedred
    • You said you were done. Guess that was more bullshit, right? Figured as much. And pharmabro? Assuming that's just more ignorance in insult form.monospaced
    • @yuekit you're ofc abs right with your post, Govs don't think it through AT ALLgrafician
    • Was speaking to someone from South Africa. Government corruption there (and I'm sure elsewhere) is another reason many people aren't getting vaccines.mort_
    • Tribal superstition is another huge issue in Africa with vaccines or anything involving needles.mort_
    • Taking the vaccine is a risk game: risk is a quickly made vaccine vs a lab escaped bio engineered virus.shapesalad
    • the % of people dying from vaccines is teeny tiny compared to the virus. So you got to spin the chamber and pull the trigger.shapesalad
    • If you die from the vaccine, take heed in knowing it's for the greater good of everyone else.shapesalad
    • If you die from the virus... can you die happywith the guilt of spreading it to your family, to the doctors and nurses that try to save you?shapesalad
    • I think it's an easier call in first world with the mRNA vaccines. Yes they are experimental but at least they are proven quite effective for now.yuekit
    • Many people in poorer countries are stuck with the less effective vaccines (Sinovac etc) if they can get them at all.yuekit
    • ^THAT should be the real conspiracy! China and Russia using crappy vaccines to influence/blackmail poorer nations!grafician
    • This thread could stand a chill pill.garbage

There is not enough food on the planet. Coronavirus was invented to blunt our sense of taste, so that they can feed us artificial chemical foods as surrogate for real food.

    • I would say it smells fishy but I can't confirm now.Fax_Benson
    • Do they make these silly stories up so they can lump everyone with a different point of view into this category?Chimp
    • The Earth can sustain LOTS more of us, the problem is with the supply chains, global politics and energy distribution - more of us makes organisation way hardergrafician
    • There's not enough critical thinking on the planet*grafician

    • you seem confused and incredibly naive, which is leading you to childish and ignorant conclusions, so I'll just let you enjoy your little conspiracy bubblemonospaced
    • Because let's be honest here, only a true moron would think a stock holder feels obligated to defend or support a company. You're not a moron, are you?monospaced

There's a Turkish antivaxxer surgeon on Twitter that I hate.
Just because it's written Dr in front of his name tens of thousands of people follow and praise him. The guy clearly has a savior complex, he's also against wearing masks.

I saw a molecular biologist trying to educate him, explaining his bias in the face of evidence and how the vaccine and virus works in cellular level.

I realized that, this surgeon having opinions about the vaccines is like a truck driver trying to tell a pilot how to fly a plane.

Specialization is so fucking important in medicine like no other profession.

Fully vaxed with Moderna since mid April. I went to Vegas without a mask 2 weeks ago and a birthday party with some of the same group last weekend.
Someone in my group from Vegas tested positive after being fully vaxed and returning to work with all vaxed people. Now I'm very sick so I've scheduled a test for Saturday.

if I'm able to still get covid with the vacine, I shutter to think how rect I'd be if I didn't get one at all and this is that Delta variant. I'm not afraid of dying and not as bad as my covid from 2020 but this is very uncomfortable.

    • This vaccine doesn't totally stop transmission, but it does keep you out of the hospital. Hang in there :)monospaced
    • Yeah same here maybe not as sick as you’re feeling but was at a casino in Tampa .. thank you Pfizer.Ramanisky2
    • Sorry what?! You got covid twice, even vaccinated?!grafician

    The Disinformation Dozen

Why platforms must act on twelve leading online anti-vaxxers

Just twelve anti-vaxxers are responsible for almost two-thirds of anti-vaccine content circulating on social media platforms. This new analysis of content posted or shared to social media over 812,000 times between February and March uncovers how a tiny group of determined anti-vaxxers is responsible for a tidal wave of disinformation - and shows how platforms can fix it by enforcing their standards.

Israel has more than 1,000 new infections again.
Bennett: Vaccine protection lower than expected!

At present, the assessment is gaining ground "that the effectiveness of existing vaccines against the delta variant is weaker than we had hoped." It is becoming clear that the problem cannot be solved by vaccination alone. The delta variant was first discovered in India and is considered particularly contagious.

In view of the new rise in infections, Israel plans to reintroduce restrictions on gatherings of more than 100 people in enclosed spaces from Wednesday. Once again, only vaccinated, recovered or people with negative test results will be allowed to attend such events. In addition, masks will again be mandatory in enclosed spaces.

Cases are on the rise in ALL 50 STATES for the first time since May 2021.

NY positivity rate tops 1% for the third straight day.

Looking at a small chart, the number of new cases are about the same in NY as they were at this time last summer. We didn’t have vaccines then.

So we should expect another surge come winter?

Being outside is the safe and easy way to avoid infection.

Meanwhile, my idiot bosses really like when everyone’s in the office. It’s their favorite!

    • The vaccination rates are not bad in nyc and the surrounding areas, so hopefully that keeps this to a small flare up compared to last season.monospaced

Flights from Montevideo to Miami reopened frequency 2 weeks ago after 18 months. Thousands of travelers picked up flights from old and new tickets.

Yesterday, for the first time, 36 infections of Delta variant were detected in Uruguay, 100% related with people who traveled. Also a couple Beta variant infections from merchant ships from South Africa.

I wonder how fucking unavoidable were those 20 / 30 flights. Pretty sure +90% is people going shopping and taking a few weeks off Uruguayan winter. It blows my mind. Nada. Welcome Delta variant of COVID to Uruguay. Nice tan, btw, assholes.
