When did we start using "cooked" instead of "screwed"?

Aanyone else get migraines and fatigue and depressed every fucking spring?
Been on my sofa for 5 days.
Got tested last year - no allergies whatsoever. But all the symptoms of allergies. Complete with sneezing and red eyes.
Gah.
- *anyonejagara
- Look into pan mucosal sinus disease. I couldn’t figure out what was going on for years. Got a ct and now I’m getting my sinuses opens up and cleaned out.thumb_screws
- I had those same symptoms. How are your sinuses when you fly?thumb_screws
- @thumb_screws fine, no problems there :)jagara
- Some talk about "spring asthemia" and "non allergic rhinitis". Ugh, ffsjagara
- (could be those, they are just a more nebulous condition)jagara
- I use an AI hack:
1) tell it your symptoms. it will tell you what it could be and will start to propose doctors and special tests and blablabla.uan - 2) tell it to stop searching for what it could be and causing fear.
3) tell it to act as a spiritual leader like sadhguru and give you an answer.uan - 4) follow the instructions. in most cases it's focus your awareness and heal it yourself.uan
- holy shit we’re at the stage of asking ai for spiritual healing?monospaced

- Why not ask a real doctor?********
- I used to get a lot more when I was eating garbage food especially MSG stuff... But the culprit was low pressure systems swooping in fast after nice weatherprophetone
- For me, I don’t need as much garbage food anymore, No breakfast or lunch, One coffee tops, As minimal sugar as possibleprophetone
- When it was bad, it was always the beginning of fall and the beginning of spring when the weather would shift dramatically from one day to anotherprophetone
- High pressure/low pressure swings that are fast, And I could feel it coming the day before always, like it’s nice outside, I start getting an ocular migraineprophetone
- Then the next morning, waking up to low line, fog or cloud or a dark cloud and rain system barreling downprophetone
- Also a long time ago, my doctor asked if I was eating MSG and I was eating that kind of takeout at least twice a week or more, it builds upprophetone
- Not fun!prophetone
- I call it “barometerhead”prophetone
- @grafician I went to my doctor, got referred to a allergy specialist, got tested. Real enough? :)jagara
- @prophetone the MSG myth has been debunke long ago. It's completely inert. Look up "chinese restaurant syndrome: https://www.bbc.com/…jagara
- There's naturally occurring monosodium glutamate in breastmilk :)jagara
- https://www.e-lactat…jagara
- MSG thing not a myth if I eat it esp a lot in liquid form, boom ocular migraine within a mins, so BBC is whateverprophetone
- My own doc was the one who asked me how much of it I consumed, pointed out as possible trigger (for me)prophetone
- So might be, you know, an allergyprophetone
- Okay, you might have an allergy.jagara

On Thursday my family (and I) will embark on a week-long trip around Europe. We land in Frankfurt with a 5 hour layover, then go to Paris for a night, then Rome for a night, then Sicily for two nights, and finally Amsterdam for three nights. We'll be backpacking it, with one tiny carry-on bag and will stay at very budget friendly hotels. Never been to any of these cities before and really can't wait to experience them. Food, museums, trains, airports, tulips, food and food. Let's go!

Bike and clothes are ready for a ride tomorrow... it's forecast to rain, but I doubt it'll be as cold as last week. Love to ride under rain without this foul wind.

As a half-Jew living in Jerusalem and partly American, I would like to extend my deepest apologies to all the nations in the region. All of this is leading to total destruction and countless deaths, and Israel and America are responsible. I am deeply ashamed for what is done supposedly in my name.
*If I disappear, it's because of what I'm saying, and I take full responsibility.

I’m being actively recruited for a job, but there’s a catch, and it’s got me in a bit of a pickle.
I currently work in a (long term) contract position where I am the senior creative lead of a small but growing team, and it’s totally remote. Good culture, great flexibility, but lower pay and no benefits. Not sustainable forever.
This new job is offering a salary waaaay higher than the highest I’ve ever had, the kind of money that might allow my wife to stop working for awhile. Plus benefits. Game changing. It’s for a top global hedge fund, and the catch is they expect all employees to be IN office 5 days a week, NO exceptions.
While I desperately want that salary and stability, I can’t imagine the sacrifices I would make to my family, and the the immense pressure it would add to my significant other, who also has to go to work hybrid.
I’m taking the interviews, but I don’t think I can take an offer. Hoping this can give me leverage to turn my current contract into full time. Or at least a good raise. It’s been exactly one year since I took this job, after being laid off.
Ok. Recruiter is calling me in 5 min. I have an interview with the ECD on Monday.
- For me it would be a hard pass, family first and life is too short.utopian
- Yeah. Kids are 4 and 8 and I can’t imagine how things would work with me gone that much. I would have to hire help at that point.monospaced
- the freedom of remote for me is something that money would have a hard time competing with. I don't have kids, but quality time with my wife beats any salary.capn_ron
- I feel you! It's such a hard balance. My wife and I built careers around prioritizing our family first. I frequently bum myself out thinking about the money...nocomply
- In slightly similar place. Contract role ending in May, found an ideal role, it's hybrid in office T, W, Th, with at least an hour car commute each way.mg33
- My current 3x a week commute is by train, less than an hour each way. In fact, going home I'm out of the office at 4:46pm, and home by 5:30.mg33
- ...on the other side, but our family is tight and it feels good to not be a slave to the man!nocomply
- I live about 20 miles north of Chicago. Commuting is a breeze: I'm 2 minutes from my town's station by car, and a 4 min walk from the downtown station.mg33
- Hey Ron! You still in SD?nocomply
- fuck that._niko
- Thanks all. Good to hear I'm not thinking about this wrong.monospaced
- FWIW my wife took a full-time on-site job last year. We needed the money. Good pay, but 1-hr+ commute each way. She was out of the house 10-11 hours each day.nocomply
- But we couldn't make it work. She turned in her notice, but they needed her and revised her role to part-time remote.nocomply
- Pay is significantly less, but our balance and family dynamic is way better.nocomply
- We'll revisit when our boys are a little older. (Currently 8 and 11.) We'll never get his time back.nocomply
- @nocomply - I'm not in SD anymore. Moved out to Coachella Valley near Palm Springs. How are you doing?capn_ron

- It's 2026; keep the gig you have and enjoy your life. My wife is the primary bread winner AND we're balanced.
Godspeed @mono!!!ideaist - Hard to put a price on being there for my kids and family during these years. Hang in there everyone, the right thing will eventually come along.monospaced
- Be careful with the leverage play, they may can you. Thinking you’re unhappy or not a long term fit. Regarding the job, the little i know about you...canoe
- ...i think you’ll get more out of being present for your kids rather than having a boat? :)canoe
- Good points.monospaced
- You're not thinking about it wrong, but is it the sort of prospect you could do for a couple of years and then cash out and go back to family life?Nairn
- But no. We had some friends here last week and the father admitted he was sad that he as missing out on so much of his daughter's upbringing by working so muchNairn
- ..and I was quite weirded out by his seemingly not wanting to change that fact. It reminded me ma bit of me own upbringing...Nairn
- ..my father and I are very close, but if I think back to my youth, my.memories of him are mostly about him working too much. Sadness and arguments.Nairn
- My dad growing up worked too much, our relationship is kinda lacking, and maybe that’s why I cherish this time so much.monospaced
- So you know the answer :)Nairn
- Yes. It’s refreshing to hear all of this feedback too.monospaced
- You knew it. Family first. Money can't buy back the time you'll lose without them. Good luck!OBBTKN
- I recently had to choose between a job with better life balance and one in tech that offered my salary again in stock. I passed on the tech job and couldnt ...robotinc

I've been unemployed since September, by choice. I went traveling for 6 months and came back home in February.
I'm applying for jobs, but not getting a lot of traction... but you know, I'm feeling pretty chill about it. Got my government health coverage and picking up some music gigs here and there. B)

Last year I had a few 'blackout' moments that only occurred when I awoke in the morning. I think I yapped about one or two of them here in the blog where I had found my glasses crushed, my ear was purple and bruised from hitting my head on the floor, ringing headaches, screwed up vision etc.
The other day at my heart checkup my cardiologist without hesitation used the words "after your stroke last year" while discussing my current medication. My wife and I both looked at each other rather confused... "stroke?... huh?"
No doctor for the last year has ever used that word "stroke" so factually (it was discussed as a possibility along w/other possibilities... for instance: I was put on anti-seizure medication "just in case"). I also found myself questioning my personal daily habits etc trying to figure out what I was doing to myself.
I'm on blood thinners to protect my artificial heart valve. I was taken off those thinners (something that hasn't ever happened in 17 years of having the valve) so I could have some 'standard middle-aged person' tests done. Because of this I ended up having a stroke (as some brain scans also revealed the other day). This is normal procedure apparently - to take a person off blood thinners for a few days before some tests. It turns out I'm one of those rare patients who should NOT be taken off these meds and I suppose I learned the hard way. There are no legal routes I can go here as there was no negligence or cover-up. We have plenty of hospital fees, doctor bills and anger though. :/
- yes you did. and broke your glasses or something. Home remedy (not a replacement for medicine): Beets have proven to widen blood vessels.
take care, pony.pango - What the actual fuck. How is there no malpractice there?garbage
- Oh my...!! A new lesson in life. Sometimes, you shouldn't believe everything doctors say. Take care Kevin. Hugs <3OBBTKN

- they can usually locate diagnose most neurovascular issues with this imaging technique. At work we 3D print the solid models (MRI's) of peoples stroke cases.Percrushin
