This weekend my mom reminded me that I don't have a bridge to my nose. It doesn't look like it, one might guess that I do, but my nose is totally squishy from the skull and is held up by tissue a little softer than cartilage. I found this out after a huge head injury as a kid that should have easily broken my nose and didn't (although i broke other things). Today, I can't stop touching my nose and moving it around It's totally bizarre. By my count, i easily should have broken my nose a handful of times by now.

    • Gross lol. Now you have me touching my nose looking for squishy bits.futurefood

Hmmm, I just discovered something kinda neat.

Set your VPN to any foreign country, say Japan
    Open Youtube incognito.
Youtube thinks you're in Japan and you'll get their front page.

Works for every country I've tried so far. Apologies if this common knowledge for VPN folks. Pretty cool seeing what's popular around the world.

I have this contract that turned into a full-time gig about 6 months ago. The original contract didn't really change (no change in pay)... the only change is I have to be in-house a few days a week.

For years I've had this contract and pay. I'd work from home / on the road... whatever was necessary to get things done. Times are changing and the company is growing. They want someone in-house a few days.

About 3 months ago I alerted my 'old boss' (the person who originated the contract w/me before it was a 'job') and 'new boss' (a new partner) that I'd be heading out of town for two weeks. My 'old boss' was the only one to respond w/the standard 'as long as this, this and this are handled and you're available... no prob'.

Everyone in the office knew I was leaving... they even cracked jokes about me being gone 2 weeks etc (in front of the old and new boss). Old boss even had some shit to talk etc (point being: everyone knew I was heading out of town).

1st day out of town I get a call from the new boss: "Are you coming in some time today?"
Me: "huh? I'm out of town, dude... ummm... you knew this... you approved it w/the other boss etc??"
Him: "umm... I'll get back to you"

    *sigh

So... my entire trip was just about done (I had 1 day left on a 2 week trip) and the 'new boss' hits me up and asks "So is this one week paid and one week not paid?"

    :/

I really didn't know how to respond. In my mind this was approved paid time off where I was still actually STILL working (I worked nearly everyday of the trip).

Anyway... new boss leaves me a text and says he decided for this pay period he'd pay me for one week paid and one week not paid. ONE DAY LEFT ON MY TRIP and literally one day left before getting paid for that period and he tells me he's cutting my money in half.

So I go to my 'old boss' and tell him how I'm getting fucked.. how time was approved... how for years I've always worked on the road etc. (Mind you... my gig is now full-time but there is no 'new' money / raise / bonus for coming on board... no paperwork or contract update... just a NEW PARTNER in the mix). The old boss says "That's why I brought this guy on board... to handle this stuff... you'll need to take it up w/him." So basically he left me hanging. The new boss doesn't want to pay for the 2 weeks off (and he didn't... the pay period came and went and now my account is overdrawn I had no choice but to let the bank handle some payments I couldn't miss so I'll pay the overdraft fees).

I'm beyond pissed... but I have no clue how to handle this w/out the help of the other boss. The new guy is just doing as he sees fit and pretty much told it is what it is... :(

    • this is classic contract-creep. that slow, organic change in a work relationship. sucks dude.Gnash
    • The only way to avoid this is to have really clearly defined boundaries and call them out as they happen.Gnash
    • this is the downside to being conscientious and having an agreeable nature.Gnash

I'm really struggling to get back on my feet from this batch of depression. Its been 3 weeks since I was 'taken' down and I'm rested but not better.

I'm fairly proud and always work to a mission on my goals. I'm nearly finished writing my book but really unable to focus, I can't go to sleep nor can I wake up, it takes me 3 hours most days to get out of bed and to make a tea longer ... I'm British so imagination the fear I have.

The control the mind has is incredible and yet terrifying. I literary start to cry for no reason, not one prone to outbursts either. I try to move but can not. I'm unable to close this fucking laptop down either, tried for 3 hours. I'm terrified for my job living in London is rough as fuck. I need a new job but dont know what.

If I'm able to get out of the flat, I find myself in a coffee shop writing my book and I'm have a deep sense of peace and calm then panic sinks in as I can not live from this for a long time and several miracles happen.

Has anyone ever come back from this? Bit bleak but when these panic attacks hit I really do understand why people end up ending themselves. I tell myself if I'm to do that I can put the kettle on and if I can put the kettle on I can get through the day but fuck a duck its hard.

My diet is good and I am unable to do any exercise - I'm well aware of the benefits. I have a phone call with therapy tomorrow - so I hope the NHS can help this out relatively fast. Any tips?

Why are all the American movie stars doing shit adverts for TV in the UK?

How much can they be getting paid? Just read that De Niro was in Halifax doing one for Warburtons bread.

a follow-up to my post yesterday...

So... the overdraft fees were enough for me to write and send the below to the 'new partner'. Granted, it's a little redundant and emotional but it's fact-based. I had no choice but to involve the other partner that ignored me / told me to pursue w/his new partner as I'm sure the below still won't be enough.

I swear I've never had a contract or employer cut my pay the day before it was due because they simply felt like it (or forgot about previous arrangements). My gut tells me I'm a bit too emotional right now but given my bank account is overdrawn (I can't even fucking uber over to my doctor appointment today... stupid me forgot to drive my wife to work so I could do that) I 'feel' like not really giving a fuck and just demanding what was / is mine be given to me...

... I could be fired today, guys!! wheee!! :P

"I am currently overdrawn in my bank account. I am getting hit with a number of $35 fees to cover the smallest most minute things. I would not be in this position if you did not dock my pay one day before the end of my agreed to paid vacation. Yesterday you and I had a chance to discuss... I think I was able to show you how I work around the clock and I’m always working and given the way my projects are set up that I am forced to constantly work harder because I am always being asked to put the 'cart before the horse'. I worked the entire trip I was gone for that two weeks. I was Johnny-on-the-spot when someone needed me to be... And of course I also worked on my normal projects.

What is really frustrating is that you docked me half my pay ONE DAY before I was supposed to get paid... We never discussed any of that (I was under the impression I was on a paid vacation) and now I am in a tough position financially.

The day you texted me and told me you were going to only pay me half you asked me to give you a call if that was a problem. I needed three hours to think about it and then I gave you a call and asked you to do it in quarters so that I didn’t feel it as hard as I am feeling it now. You told me you could not do it in quarters that you had already put the payment through. You only gave me three hours to think that day... And then you cut my pay half.... I really feel like you kind of screwed me here, (guy who stole my money). Again, I was expecting a full paid vacation. You decided to change that one day before the end of the pay period. Nobody has ever done anything like that to me and I’m still confused given the fact I worked on that entire trip like I always do. I need something to help get me out of this financial hole... Getting paid on the 1st which is tomorrow will barely give me a few dollars as my rent is due on the 1st. I need you and (other partner's name) to help me with these overdraft issues or perhaps just give me my full pay for the last pay period and I will handle the overdraft myself as I deserve that full pay."

I honestly should demand the full pay AND that he pay my fucking overdraft fees too... anyway... today sucks... hate this shit... carry on. :)

    • ...I really feel like you kind of screwed me here, (guy who stole my money). Again, ...
this is where it gets unnecessarily emotional, not need for that part.

My mate constantly posts things about climate change and the fact we're making animals (and ourselves) extinct, hopefully and eventually wiping humans out of existence. I don't like this apocalyptic thought process that people go through, ignoring human ingenuity and the beautiful creativity we find ourselves involved in. We always fuck stuff up, but we always find a way.

Or should I be way more pessimistic?!
