I picked up a whole load of mid 70's rock vinyl this week and an album by Little Feat was in the pile and tbh they have completely passed my audio radar over the years but... holy shit, they are fantastic!! I cannot believe I've missed all their stuff all this time. Maybe it's just my age haha but now I am really in the Feat Zone and have their entire back cat to catch up on.

Could'nt two cameras on each side of the screen (circa eye height instead of up top), combine an image that would result in an illusion of eye contact during video calls? Possibly combined with some eye/face tracking trickery?
Eye contact during video calls would really make a huge difference, at least for me. It's a weird experience, when you have a concersations with someone always looking down.

haven't been around these parts in a while.
ten weeks ago i was brought to a psych ward for detox & suicidal intent. after sobering up was diagnosed as bipolar 2, which is an extended major depression followed by hypermanic episodes lasting 4-7 days. provided a lot of clarity on the past 20 years of life.
spent the last two months inpatient at a psych facility dealing with SI (suicidal ideation), alcoholism and mental health. finally thinking i can face the world again, just got a 60 day chip and whatnot, will be returning to life & attempting to live.
then i just found a bump on my back has turned into a large painful something or other that could certainly be cancerous but fingers crossed that it isn't.
so suffice to say life has been interesting / it's been a long year.

Now of course humour is very subjective but there’s a sufficient gap in people’s ability to create it that I’ve been thinking about this lately. I don’t think being funny is (entirely?) innate and I would like to hear what you guys think on how a sense of humour is developed. What is it that makes funny people have funny thoughts/ideas pop into their head so easily?

I’m getting back to basics.
Looking for resources on how to visualize research. Basic tutorials are fine, samples, anything that can help me take an “insight” and convert it into a useful graphic.
I look around for this but mostly find examples of “beautiful” charts. I don’t need that, I know how to make a chart beautiful. What I need to get better at is building the basic structure of a chart. Which chart to use? How to represent data graphically?
In grade school I learned when to use a bar or line chart and when to use a pie chart. That’s fine for science class. What I want is more like what you see in the business consulting space.
Got any good articles or tutorials?

Mini Rant...
Drive by shooting right in front of my house last night. Car was shooting at my neighbor's house. History of trouble with that family.
This hasn't been the only shooting around the neighborhood this year. We've heard shots a few times since 2020. Plus my kids and wife were at a nearby park a few years previous, when a shooting occurred pretty close to them (5pm on a sunday with a park full of families. WTF!).
I love my neighborhood, and living the urban life, walking distance to great food and shops, but I have kids, and this shit is getting to be ridiculous. But moving, selling and buying a house, is a stress I don't want to add.
In a weird way, I've been around this stuff most of my life (living in San Francisco, Oakland and berkeley), so it's almost acceptable in my head. But should it be?
