      2. Likewise, it's the grandman who will give covid to your kid not them to her.

    • This is science talking but since some here choose to live in Medieval Inquisition times, none of this will ever get to their dumb thick skull.pr2
    • But you're wrong on both points, and both points are not arguments in your favor. You have NO right insulting anyone's intelligence around here. That's a fact.monospaced
    • Sounds like you're denying that unvaccinated children in schools are not transmitting the virus between each other and at home. Weird.monospaced
    • Why would grandma, who's been locked down, wearing her mask like a good adult, be more likely to have COVID than a kid playing at a playground w/o one?monospaced
    • Mono, since you kept your cool and didn't go into insults, i'll try to be non-insulting too.pr2
    • 1. By now there are numerous studies that show that kids don't get covid as easily as adults, when sick don't get symptoms as bad as adults and are...pr2
    • ...are not great spreaders (in household or school environments).pr2
    • In numerous studies it usually was the adult who infected the kid (in household environment or school) not the other way around.pr2
    • The biggest spreaders are old people because they shed the largest number of viruses.pr2
    • There are some diseases (chicken pox or 5th disease for instance) that are insignificant for kids but can be serious for adults. The opposite is true too.pr2
    • 2. "Kids" have a very broad definition. Here we are using OP's 3 yo as the definer. In this age group a common flu is more serious than covid.pr2
    • I get it, some of this stuff indeed is counter intuitive. It might surprise you that i was one of the first ones in my 'hood to wear mask and had really...pr2
    • ...hard time changing my view that they basically work. So i get that some might have a hard time going against the common sense.pr2

How much politics is there in covidomania?

The Liberals Who Can’t Quit Lockdown
    https://www.theatlantic.com/poli…

"For many progressives, extreme vigilance was in part about opposing Donald Trump. Some of this reaction was born of deeply felt frustration with how he handled the pandemic. It could also be knee-jerk. “If he said, ‘Keep schools open,’ then, well, we’re going to do everything in our power to keep schools closed,” Monica Gandhi, a professor of medicine at UC San Francisco, told me. Gandhi describes herself as “left of left,” but has alienated some of her ideological peers because she has advocated for policies such as reopening schools and establishing a clear timeline for the end of mask mandates. “We went the other way, in an extreme way, against Trump’s politicization,” Gandhi said. Geography and personality may have also contributed to progressives’ caution: Some of the most liberal parts of the country are places where the pandemic hit especially hard, and Hetherington found that the very liberal participants in his survey tended to be the most neurotic."

Seems I have a couple of friends who don't subscribe to the same views as me regarding vaccines. I'm not going to demonize them and would prefer to stay friends and see them for coffee etc.

So I'm curious, from a safety point of view, what's your strategy in terms of close contact with friends who won't get vaccinated, if you have any?

    • If you got the vaccine it's a small risk for you, a big one for them.

    • Happy to let people make their own choices, but i think it's hard to discrimminate as some people just don't have a lot of trust in anything right nowIanbolton
    • Yeah, I don't think anyone is on firm ground here really. You have to just educate yourself as best as you can and go with what makes sense to you.mort_
    • And avoid certain conversations with those friends if they aren't productive.mort_
    • It depends on what they do with their time. If they're honest with you and if they are extremely limiting indoor contact then it's low risk for you.nb

    • Having said that I don't see how it will ever be proven unless there is a leak of documents showing the exact same virus existed in the lab.yuekit
    • The case this author and others put forward in an article like this is compelling when you read it in isolation. But the point I keep coming back to isyuekit

    • Obviously the lab was one vector where people were interacting with bats in proximity with Wuhan. But how many other vectors were there?yuekit
    • yeap, if track and trace requires 80% of close contacts to be effective it would be impossible to know for sure. but if it was an accidental release it wouldkingsteven

So browsing stories on instagram, and come across a photographer friend posting anti-vaxx stories effectively filming that Tucker guy from Fox and adding anti-vax texts over the video complaining "we don't know what's in the vaccines and it's my body" type shit, then in another story complains about instagram inserting a notice that what that guys says is basically disinformation and cursing instagram for that notice ranting instagram is doing her wrong - while using instagram 24/7 (she posts non-stop stories)

    • though i disagree with their methodology, the fact that there are people who attempt to do this sort of stuff IS worth considering.pr2
    • pr2 stop just stop, again, your comments and views are junk, keep them to yourself
      go sleep

    • Pr2, from that same link, the projected death rate is 3x what you've been quoting for months now.robotinc
    • And you still won't consider the long term effects on survivorsrobotinc
    • Robo, the only thing that concerned me is mortality rate, which stays the same at around 0.4%.pr2

Just tried to book my shot - fucking 30th May!

I've got tickets booked for Italy at the end of the month, motherfuckers.

(my partner booked tickets - super cheap, can change twice for free - there's fuck all chance I am going soon, and I suspect almost fuck all chance my partner will be going either, even with her full vaccination).

Going to pop in to the local vax centre with my appointment slip and an appropriate sense of barely-frothing middle class outrage and see if I can get some daily dreg ends.

    • yeah, go everyday waiting for some extra doses. good luck, mateKrassy
    • you'll do bst where they have the pfizer gunk, as that goes off quickly and they'll be keen to get rid.hans_glib

    • Release the Karen!monospaced
    • Just shop around. Here in NYC it’s totally booked in some areas, clear in others. My ex was fretting bc her area was totally booked and she found loads in minehardhat
    • @fadein: eh? I think we are?
@wagshaft - LDN has lowest uptake rates across UK. SHoudl
      @mono: 'zactly, haha!
      @hardhat: I think I should be fine at a day's end

    • @nairn, surprised you haven't been called up already, but I am mildly asthmatic so I may have got it sooner...fadein11

    • if true, I guess it's to prevent wide spread panic, but then it also fuels the pr2 "it's just a flu" crowd_niko
    • The Wuhan Flu ain't no joke.utopian
    • If this is true I'd say it's mostly just a failure of health systems to accurately record all the deaths.reanimate
    • some say its a democratic hoax...only the smartest people though.neverscared
    • Where is China on this list?TOMMYxGUNN
    • ^I was about to ask that, it's amazing how easily we excuse china from any covid discussion latelygrafician
    • ^"we" as in everybody, not only on QBNgrafician
    • Because we know what ever data China gives out is full of shit, so why include it ?Gnash
    • niko, if you were not a dum-dum, you would look up at flu mortality before making stupid comments like that.pr2
    • of course nuance of data is perpetually lost on cavemen like yourself.pr2
    • Yeah ok 60k on a bad year with no masks and no measures vs 2 million covid deaths with semi- draconian measures. yup flu is worse. grunt_niko
    • cavemen haha. what a clown.monospaced
    • son, let me guess, you never bothered reading the paper the graph came from. you never bothered looking at their methodology. am i right?pr2
    • cretins like you don't even understand the basics of punctuation and the purpose behind quotation marks in a statement, much less science.pr2
    • the reason why guys like you perpetually sit in shit in their pants is because you don't understand the relativity of danger.pr2
    • flu with it's 60k death would easily turn into 500k+ if it was x3 of covid in death and 3x covid's transmissibility.pr2
