Well, boys and girls, I'll tell you what: if Covid-19 is anything like the Covid-like side effects of the AZ vaccine, I want nothing to do with it.

Fuck me, I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Twice.

    • Crazy isn't it. worry not though, it vanishes as quickly as it comes on. You should be fine tomorrow.fadein11
    • It's mental. Actually, it feels a lot what having pneumonia did for me a few years ago. Not fun.Continuity
    • hah, i thought i was gonna die with covid (and didn't even know what it was at the time) i'd get vaccinated every month not to do that againkingsteven
    • If your Immune System has a strong reaction to a vaccine...imagine what the real virus would do to you.uan
    • get well soon!SimonFFM
    • As someone who has caught the real thing, the vaccine side effects are only about 70% as wicked as real covid. The vaccine mimics how you feel on the 8th day..cherub

    • Take how you feel and add in weird lung spasms, and the feeling like you've inhaled smoke and you're suffocating.cherub
    • fadein, you weren't kidding about it vanishing as quickly as it came on. I just realised that nothing hurts anymore, and I feel just fine.Continuity
    • yep, as if by magic, all is fine again.fadein11

    In Belgium:
The profile of patients with Covid-19 hospitalized during this third wave is better known thanks to the analysis of partial data collected in healthcare establishments until April 15, covering 7,762 patients across the entire territory, including 487 in intensive care. It shows that people admitted to hospital are younger and that "obesity" is a "significantly increased" factor in the development of a severe form of the disease.

  • ApeRobot3

The survival rate has increased, thanks to the lowering of the age of hospitalized Covid-19 patients but also to the use of dexamethasone, a synthetic corticosteroid, in the treatment of the disease. But there is still 1 in 10 patients who die from Covid (half in comparison with the Christmas period 2020).

Old article about this Italian town:
    https://www.reuters.com/article/…
"A study of coronavirus infections that covered almost everyone in the quarantined north Italian town of Vò found that 40% of cases showed no symptoms - suggesting that asymptomatic cases are important in the spread of the pandemic."

    New finding:
    https://www.nbcnews.com/science/…
"According to a coming study by researchers from the University of Padua in collaboration with Imperial College London, of the 129 people who still had antibodies nine months on from the initial outbreak, 16 showed more than double the levels they had in May."

Are we learning something new about Italians or about the virus here?

"Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe

Australia has banned Australian citizens currently in India, from returning home...probably until mid month at the earliest.

I'm really conflicted on this one.

Absolutely horrid if you're an Australian and in India. No doubt you'd want to come home and you'd expect your home country to make every effort for that to happen.

Having said that, our quarantine systems here have proven to be fragile to say the least...and in a country with effectively zero COVID, do we risk another wave just to get a few thousand people home?

I hate ScoMo as much as anyone...but I don't envy anyone having to make the decision. Because sure as fuck, if they do bring them home and there's an outbreak, there will be hell to pay.

    • What idiot would travel to a country with Covid-19 running buck wild for months now, then expect to fly home to their country? - A Covidiot would.utopian
    • They should be allowed to quarantineinstrmntl
    • People went for many reasons. Some for frivolous things like weddings, others to see & care for elderly family. It’s not so simple.

    • This wouldn’t be an issue if the federal gov had sorted quarantine. If a citizen can get home they should be provided quarantine.thumb_screws
    • I'm sorry but not sorry....we are in the middle of a global pandemic and those who choose to travel for any reason must be quarantined or banned, period.utopian

Re: Australia’s ban on citizens returning from India. It’s a bummer to see the news media stoke the flames of racism again. From what I’ve read, the govt of Australia is putting a temporary ban on people from India to avoid overloading their effective hotel quarantining system. This makes sense. Things have have become horrifying in India and understandably people who went there want to get the fuck out now. But if all those AUS citizens in India come in at the same time, there’s going to be a problem.

People want to jump to conclusions about it being race-related. They’ll point out that there were no bans on arrivals from UK and USA when those numbers were worse. This may be true, but I don’t recall my Australian friends in America hopping planes back to Australia en masse. (Also, Australians in America aren’t necessarily white, it’s immature and racist to presume “American” or “Australian” means white people.)

Anyway, the solution is to queue everyone into the hotel quarantine. But that’s pretty much what Australia is doing here. By setting a temporary ban, they can free up space over time so more people can come home. Overloading the quarantine won’t help. Now, you might argue that they should increase quarantine beds – and that’s fair – but don’t forget that the people who left Australia for India knew the risks in traveling there.

I feel terrible for the people in India, regardless if they’re Australian citizens or not. This isn’t an easy situation. But to brand a decision as racism based on utter nonsense isn’t doing anyone any good. It’s not helping.

Australia is extremely multicultural and, like all countries, has some racists. But have you ever been to India? Met any Indian expats? Racism among Indians, especially older generations, is absurdly common.

I mean, literally a huge part of the problem in India right now can be traced back to the fact that certain castes of people don’t care AT ALL if people of lower castes suffer and die. India is run by a monster racist, who was democratically elected by the people.

And, by the way, India isn’t a poor country without access to pharma. It’s one of massive disparity between rich and poor. India produces more Covid vaccine (by volume) than any other country. But they do not value each human life as equal.
