NEW DELHI — With a devastating second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across India and lifesaving supplemental oxygen in short supply, India’s government on Sunday said it ordered Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to take down dozens of social media posts critical of its handling of the pandemic.

The order was aimed at roughly 100 posts that included critiques from opposition politicians and calls for Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, to resign. The government said that the posts could incite panic, used images out of context and could hinder its response to the pandemic.

The companies complied with the requests for now, in part by making the posts invisible to those using the sites inside India. In the past, the companies have reposted some content after determining that it didn’t break the law.

Israel Examines Heart Inflammation Cases After Pfizer Shot

(Bloomberg) -- Israel is examining dozens of cases where people experienced heart inflammation after receiving Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE’s coronavirus vaccine.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/health…
    _
Lexikon: Myocarditis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the heart muscle tissue.

Young people are affected it looks like. Speculation: The dose may be too strong for the young whose immune system reacts even more strongly.

At the moment it is not yet clear if there is a causal relationship.
But i think it's good when we know also the possible risks so we can make vaccines more secure in the long run.

    Soz, rant incoming...

Just had a phone call with my sister who's very much against this vaccine because she has friends who know people who have had serious side effects. One person (she knows) is now in intensive care. She then starts crying saying she loves me and doesn't want anything bad to happen to me. What the fuck? We can see exactly how fear spreads. She suggested I waited until we knew what it's actually doing to people.

I recognise there are always going to be issues. I used to take anti-depressents and there's probably a lot of evidence to suggest they did nothing but make me more subdued, losing the vigour of life, but the way mRNA vaccines works is a absolute game changer in the future of humanity. We can now irradicate huntington's disease and stickle cell disease and have the opportunity to play god in various other ways. I think those moral boundaries are more the questions we need to be focusing on here as using gene-editing techniques could eventually be our own demise. But is a vaccine for COVID something that we should be worrying about, especially when many companies are producing them not for profit? I feel sorry for my sister, but I also question whether im being naive.

    • Ask her if she ever wore a No Fear t-shirt. Better yet, find a picture of her from the 90s wearing a No Fear shirt and ask her ‘what happened to you”
      ********
    • The way mRNA works is NOT a mystery, as it's working in you all the time naturally and always has.monospaced
    • I honestly believe that no vaccine would have been put into use if it were going to cause widespread harm. No company wants that on their hands, profit or not.monospaced
    • And for the record, COVID-19 mRNA vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way. At all. Huge misconception.monospaced

    • The harm from u getting vaccinated or from you experiencing covid is equally small. You sister overreacted, but so did you.pr2

    Re mono's above comment.
Mono, the closeness of your perception is just colossal.
You equate a number of deaths with risk factor which is laughable.

So let me try to explain it to you in terms that maybe the two brain cells you poses don't overheat from exhaustion.

VAST majority of deaths from Covid are in old and very old group. If you are 65+ you SHOULD get a vaccine as the risk is just too great. But unless i'm talking to a bunch of rocking-chair grandpas and grandmas here, the risk of death or serious complications in this age group (25-45) is equal to flu (actually below 30, it's lower than flu).

Some young people taking the vaccine might be doing so for the communal good (the virus is negligible to them but they are so-call protecting the "at risk" population) but even that argument must be seen through the prism of actual community spread. Where i live in NYC, 75%+ of population already had the virus so who are those youngsters taking the vaccine protecting?

But again, if fear or lack of understanding how the immune system works prevents your from living a normal life and if you think getting vaccine will somehow save you, then by any means go ahead get one as the risk is low. (of course, i would prefer if people instead sat down to learn about how their body works, but i know it's an impossible dream).

    • 75% of NYC had the virus? Let’s see your math gymnastics on that one
      ********
    • yes, and don't leave out the undeserved condescending undertonesmonospaced
    • If you think the vaccine is just to save the person getting it you’re the one who is missing something. You’re ignoring the global devastation somehow.monospaced
    • nb, mortality (on conservative side) is 0.5%. Queens covid deaths: 9700. Out of population of 2.36 mil, is what? Is what? Go ahead.pr2
    • 82%. Sorry for not being specific enough and using a lowered estimate.pr2
    • Is the death rate exactly the same everywhere and at every time? NYC got hit hard right at the beginning before they knew how to treat it.yuekit
    • as i said, i'm using "conservative" number - meaning when people die more due to all sort of reasons.pr2
    • Well if you used a lower number suddenly it makes no sense at all because over 100% of New Yorkers got the virus right? :)yuekit
    • So 0.5% is close to the minimum death rate possible in this case. But you don't know that it wasn't 1% or 3%....again, only in NYC not everywhere.yuekit

I know some people that think like a sort of social darwinism way but they don't grasp what that even means so I can not even throw that to their faces...
