Here's an interesting take on gun control that could be easily applied to anti-maskers ie, smoking in public places and drunk driving. We don't do both of those things any more because it hurts others, same with masks, it doesn't so much protect you but it helps protect others.

The company Trump awarded $1.3B has produced nothing!

A year after a Connecticut company was awarded almost $1.3 billion in federal loans and contracts to supply an essential syringe for COVID-19 vaccines, none have been made.

Got a nice little buzz off that AZ vaccine for a few hours yesterday morning and was waiting for some side effects that never came. just a tender arm this morning. Overall a fun experience, 7/10 will vaccinate again.

    U.S. Covid-19 Factoids
    • On average 85,000 people a day are contracted Covid-19
    • On average 700 people a day are dining from Covid-19
    • Tens of million of American's refuse to get vaccinated
    • Herd immunity not likely until early to late 2022

    • 700 people dining like they haven't been to a restaurant in a year!Krassy
    • thanks to the mask resisting, science skewing bobos out theremonospaced
    • At least 80mil of Americans had it. In some parts of the country, 60-75% had it (at 75% you have proven heard immunity). Then why vaccinate unless you are 65+?pr2
    • or from the areas where many still didn't have it?pr2
    • "At least 80mil" is just your estimate. No proof that any spot has had 60-75% infection of population.monospaced
    • 0.4-0.7 is now widely accepted IFR number. Go do your own calculations and see for yourself.pr2
    • NYC has 60-75% infection rate in Quees and Brooklyn.pr2
    • pr2 care to post some sources to back up your numbers?robotinc
    • here is one meta-analysis (IFR 0.7%):
      https://pubmed.ncbi.…
      pr2
    • Another one from WHO (IFR 0.27%):
      https://www.who.int/…
      pr2
    • Queens in NYC has 10k deaths. If we assume IFR of 0.5% that gives us 2mil infection (out of population of 2.3 mil).pr2
    • IFR is a different discussion from infection rates though.monospaced
    • u can deduct one from another.pr2
    • it takes too many estimated from really wide reports. And not a single source even likes using an average IFR because they vary a lot by age.monospaced
    • It’s nonexistent with young people and super high with old. And it’s not really connected to how the virus spreads.monospaced
    • IFR of 0-40 is pretty much 0. up to 55 it's the flu levels and around 65+ it skyrockets, so indeed IFR taken by itself is a mistake.pr2
    • but the above quoted numbers are general averages, which in population with average age spread, give you a good starting point.pr2
    • But it’s wildly different from county to county. Averages are where you’re getting all fucked up.monospaced
    • IFR of the disease isn't that different if you compare apples to apples. Compare 1st world country to 1st world country and you gonnan be in ballpark.pr2
    • that's why u want meta-analysis not just one study that often deals with just one region.pr2

India: 315,802 new cases and 2,102 deaths yesterday !

They better stop the flights in/ out of India because of Indian virus mutant which is apparently the most dangerous.

Each day, the government reports more than 300,000 new infections, a world record, and India is now seeing more new infections than any other country by far, almost half of all new cases in a global surge.

But experts say those numbers, however staggering, represent just a fraction of the real reach of the virus’s spread, which has thrown this country into emergency mode. Millions of people refuse to even step outside — their fear of catching the virus is that extreme. Accounts from around the country tell of the sick being left to gasp for air as they wait at chaotic hospitals that are running out of lifesaving oxygen.

The sudden surge in recent weeks, with an insidious newer variant possibly playing a role, is casting increasing doubt on India’s official Covid-19 death toll of nearly 200,000, with more than 2,000 people dying every day.

    ....

“It’s a complete massacre of data,” said Bhramar Mukherjee, an epidemiologist at the University of Michigan who has been following India closely. “From all the modeling we’ve done, we believe the true number of deaths is two to five times what is being reported.”

At one of the large cremation grounds in Ahmedabad, a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, bright orange fires light up the night sky, burning 24 hours a day, like an industrial plant that never shuts down. Suresh Bhai, a worker there, said he had never seen such a never-ending assembly line of death.
