The US Covid-19 epidemic hit a deadly new milestone, and help isn’t on the way

More than 116,000 new Covid-19 cases in a single day: We should have seen this coming.

    https://www.vox.com/2020/11/5/21…

    • Number of cases don't mean s*** it's the death rate that matters.Hayoth

U.S. Hits New Coronavirus Case Record for Third Straight Day

More than 132,700 new cases were announced across the United States on Friday. The country also reported more than 1,000 deaths for the fourth straight day.

Huge protests in Germany right now

If Biden becomes president I predict the anti-lockdown/COVID isn't real movement will explode in the US

  • grafician1

Have watched on twitter dozens of celebration videos of Biden winning in the US, not one person without a mask - some had their mask off to drink for a bit, but not one person without a mask

    vs.

all those MAGA and trump videos were ALL people without a mask (maybe one or two with a mask in a crowd)

    so yeah...

    • Same with the BLM protests. That’s why there was no covid spike in the weeks following those protests. Outside, 6ft minimum, mask on. That’s all you need.

    • so yeah, I think you could have a great inauguration crowd at the White House in January, good luck, well deserved!grafician

'It's a slaughter,' doctors say of new coronavirus wave

The virus appears to be strengthening, killing more than a thousand Americans every day this week while recording more than 100,000 daily infections. More than 50,000 people across the nation are hospitalized. The share of coronavirus diagnostic tests coming back positive has risen to 8.2 percent to his week; last week’s share of positive tests was a markedly lower 7.2 percent.

    Wake up and stay home!

    It’s getting really bad, America.

    Outside + minimum 6ft + mask on = safety.

    Everything else is killing us!

My father in-law had a fall about 3 weeks ago and had to go into hospital, his wife was only able to visit for an hour each day due to restrictions.
He was in the early stages of dementia, so I think being alone confused him a lot, he stopped eating, and yesterday he refused his medicine. He has so many other things wrong with him, it's lucky he's been getting morphine as I think the meds withdrawal and physical pain he must be suffering would be brutal.
My wife managed to travel down on the first day of lockdown to support her mum whose been having to deal with it all on her own.
He'd been moved from the hospital to a nursing home, but as a patient on his ward had covid, he had to go into isolation, so his wife wasn't allowed to visit.
Today she was finally allowed in, and my wife is visiting him now, he's in the final stages of life.

I've read on here that other people have went through similar situations, like Fadein and have friends that have had to deal with people spending their final moments alone. It's super sad.

I think about when my own father died, his brothers and sisters holding his hand, my mum, my sister and my wife all around to spend hours by his bed, right there as he slipped away.

I'm 100's of miles away from my wife and she's having to dress in full PPE to say goodbye to her dad.

    • Jeez, sorry to hear that, PhanLo, that's rough.Fax_Benson
    • Cheers Fax, I'm glad my wife is getting to say goodbye, some people I know never got the chance. :-(PhanLo

"Covid vaccine: First 'milestone' vaccine offers 90% protection"

"The data shows that two doses, three weeks apart, are needed. The trials - in US, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey - show 90% protection is achieved seven days after the second dose."

"they will be able to supply 50 million doses by the end of this year and around 1.3 billion by the end of 2021. Each person needs two doses."

but the logistics to handle the vaccination will be a nightmare lol, it needs to stay at -80*C and 2 doses needs over a month

I can’t even imagine a future where I get on the subway without a mask on.

It’s weird to think it, but I might wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces for the rest of my life. Or, at least several years.

Doesn’t seem weird in Asia, why would it seem weird in NYC?

    Anyone else feeling this?

    • Agree. I will also keep the 2m personal space force field around me.shapesalad
    • Only people with health problem should wear a mask in public. People that feel sick should stay home and wear a mask if going outside. Problem solved.ApeRobot
    • Otherwise, it's a cycle that we will never break.ApeRobot
    • ApeRobot, remember you can still transmit it before you feel sick, hence everybody wearing a mask is a good precaution.Nutter
