Splurged on a new phone.
Had my current Xiaomi one for 3 years now and got it for free (amazon sent me 2 by mistake so one went on ebay) so figured I was due spending a wee bit on a new blower.Opted for the Samsung Galazy Ultra.
Thing (with case) is big but not too much bigger than my xiaomi.
The stylus is great for random sketchings and for keeping the kids entertained.200mp camera is astounding!

Most of the people I know change phones every two or three years.
My phone is a Sony Xperia X Performance Dual from 2011.
I have the latest version of LineageOS.Except for a crash or two per week, especially when I use the camera and some annoying warnings I can live with, I'm actually happy.
I thought about changing to an iPhone this year but the price and the fact that I can't organize the files like in my Mac and access them easily, plus something else I forgot...(cooking dinner for my daughter after 4 hours train travel)

When you see a thread that is a person's name rise to the top on here (ex "Elon Musk") does anyone else think that the newest comment is going to be that that particular person just died?

Back in Oct 22', for shits and giggles, I flirted with the idea of purchasing a bar/lounge on the other side on the country. The price to buy the business was $367K and the location/decor was right IMO, kind of a pipe dream since I have no experience running a bar.
Today, for more shits and giggles, I looked up the listing and it is now almost half the price...it really is a nice place, not sure why no one has jumped on it. Such a crazy idea but then again failure would only amount to lost time.
- Do it, why not? But remember... The hospitality business has waaay more to do with management than with funOBBTKN
- You should call it the QBN roadhouse, and it should have a "fuck you candy" sign in the window, and an LOL cube hanging behind the bar.monospaced

- Restaurant business is tough with lots of regulations and the 3 most important things are: Location, location, location.
But still, it can be a lot of fun...Longcopylover - to run and a more secure business than advertising for example. My dream would be both: Agency/studio on top, coffeeplace/bar on street level.Longcopylover

A friend of mine asked if he could stay at my place for 2-4 weeks cuz his wife wants a divorce and also is my job hiring?
Yes those 2 things in 1 sentence.
no red flags at all.
I guess I'm a horrible friend.

- Depends how you want to access it, but we can stick it into haasie, either the SQL DB or file storage.skinny_puppy
- I would to have some notebook service associated with it. I don't think many people would be using it though. I would like something very user friendly.palimpsest
- At worst I would just a read only user to the db and have everyone access it through phpMyAdmin. The db is already hosted on my site.palimpsest
- Cool. I've been keen to build a search engine for QBN for a while, would be great to use that as a base. Are you continuously scraping?skinny_puppy
- Yes, I scrape every 15 minutes. You can access all of 2003 on Observable. I made a quick search tool there too. 2002-2022 is on SQL, replies only.palimpsest
- I'll post the raw file so you can use it for your search engine. Then you call pull the updates on your own. Day to day scraping still runs on Google Sheets.palimpsest

Was rushed to the ER on Tue thinking I was having a heart attack. Woke up Monday at 2am with horrible indigestion, which is rare for me. Took some tums and had a crappy sleep. Went to bed early Mon night and same thing woke up early Tue trying to throw up. Took a day off, had a telehealth appointment with doc and got some indigestion and nausea meds. Not an hour later I was on the floor writhing in pain, couldn't breathe, back pain, cold sweats, chest pain the whole shebang.
Turns out my fucking gallbladder was backed up and ballooning into my liver and causing the chest pain. After a day plus in the hospital doing every test they passed me for a keyhole cholecystectomy and I had the procedure Wed night to remove the gallbladder, very routine. I hadn't eaten anything but plain toast since Monday and after the surgery, I was so high I couldn't sleep, I spent 6 hours by myself in the hospital bed tripped out on all the meds.
I'm home now recovering and feeling a ton better, feel like a jack o lantern with these 4 incisions on my abdomen/chest, but all is good in the world. Just have to take it easy with fatty foods but I'm back - some of the worst pain I've ever felt in my life and some of the best dilaudid I've ever experienced.
Gotta love modern medicine, have a great Father's day all!

After 7 months looking and around 50 applications sent I finally managed to get a job.
I'm not going to design or do anything creative. It will be digitalizing archives. From city halls to law firms, from construction companies to museums.
It can be boring but it also can be really interesting especially when the documents are from the 19th century and written in old German style or DDR logos from the 20th century.
Still need to sign the contract but I'm pretty excited.
It doesn't pay much but I work only 20 hours a week and have time for my own projects and for my family.I have a lot of benefits, I tell you guys about it later after signing the contract, and I have the chance to improve my skills by participating in workshops and making professional training courses in different areas.
I will also follow the recommendation from fellow QBN members and take a year to build a relevant portfolio.
So no more client work from now on, especially no websites.
Let's see what happens.

Fucking migraines.
- Have you looked into psychedelic mushrooms?Nairn
- Yeah, they suck. I take preventative drugs and botox injections. Both help, but don't cure anything.formed
- Midrin/Fioricet are the only 2 abortive drugs that work for me and only in massive quantities at once. Woohoo.formed
- Ibu+lysine usually does takes care of the worst of it. I've been getting them for 20 years now, but fewer and fewer each year.i_monk
- Started out 5 a week, now maybe 5 a year around the turns of the seasons.i_monk
- I see that nine-letter word and my skin fucking crawls. Thankfully I've only had three this year, and typing this means I'll probably have one tomorrow.garbage
- I'm assuming you're dodging screens right now, but questions for after the episode:garbage
- Do you get the aura and know shit is coming? I feel/see it coming an hour or two out, and I'm dropping everything before the doom hits.garbage
- My cousin once gave me the sage advice of "get into a cold bath as soon as you feel them coming on, works a charm".garbage
- Tried it. Thanks cuz, now I'm fucking freezing and there's still an earthquake above my neck.garbage
- A glint/blur is first, making it impossible to focus. Then the aura comes. Aura lasts 30 mins or so, then the pain spikes. 95% of time the pain is on the left,i_monk
- but that 5% on the right is usually so much worse. Lasts 4–8 hours, which I used to just sleep through before discovering the ibu+lysine combo at Asda.i_monk
- I've never experienced this myself though my recent bout with insufferable pain leaves me empathizing with you in a profound way, hang tight, embrace the suck!whatthefunk
- Monk, does it hit you the same time every day? If so, wondering if they’re cluster headaches? https://en.m.wikiped…_niko
- No, definitely migraines. Usually triggered by atmospheric conditions or lights.i_monk
- High five from another miserable member of the Left Side Migraine Mob. They hit me on the left, and then when that is gone..garbage
- ..massive echo of pain starts hanging out just behind my right eye.garbage
- @niko definitely not a cluster. I did some medical modules with studies where people who have them, and have also had broken femurs and natural birth.garbage
- And in the studies they ranked clusters as exponentially more painful. If monk was having a cluster and making a post, we should be very afraid of him lol.garbage
- Me too, sometimes they get so bad I spew. Sometimes I think it's on days when I don't drink coffee, but maybe it's just being out of a routine.PhanLo
- I get them triggered by bright light occasionally. Usually just sleeping and paracetemol. But if it's lingering then I find going out for a walk helps clear it.microkorg
- worth a try https://www.ncbi.nlm…neverscared
- https://www.youtube.…shapesalad
- good for you! Sounds like a chill job!milfhunter
- Coffee can be a killer. I was getting 5+ a week and my neuro said reduce coffee. I cut 50% of my coffee ad 75% of the migraines vanished.formed
- I really like coffeePhanLo
- @phan I puke every time. I lay myself down on a cold stone floor at the foot of the throne and wait for the ol' upguttery to happen.garbage
- @formed 5 a week? I would kill myself. How often do you get them now?garbage
- yeah garbage, I would get cluster headaches for years and I don't wish them on anyone. Every single day for about a month. Exact same time. then gone for_niko
- a few months and then they'd return, Again, like clockwork same time of day, excruciating pain over my left eye and temple for about an hour or two_niko
- then gone... until the next day, same bat time. Thankfully it's been about 8 years since my last attack so hopefully that was it._niko
- Woah guys, I'm sorry for you... I usually have phases of intense pain on the left side (after an eye operation) but I think it's nothing compared to yoursOBBTKN
- If you're puking it may be gastric stasis. If I've eaten within an hour of a migraine I chew gum to keep my gut from shutting down.i_monk
- If you've got food in your stomach when a migraine hits it can't get into your intestine bc of gastric stasis, your body triggers vomiting.i_monk
- if you suffer from cluster headaches, *definitely* look into fungal psychedelics. An employee we had came from that angle and we sold to a lot of sufferersNairn
- i get non-painful but utterly debilitating and nauseating migraines. they seem to be tied to a specific type of contrasting lighting situation. Maybe 1 ev 18mo.Nairn
- DIdn't have one 'til I was about 27. Boy was that a fun afternoon, given I had absolutely no context for what was suddenly happening to me.Nairn
- Yeah, the first one is loaded with confusion.garbage
- @niko God damn. I'm sure your doctor used the "alarm clock headache" analogy. I can't imagine putting your head down on a pillow..garbage
- ..and not bothering to set an alarm because you know when you'll be waking up.garbage
- lol yeah, except it was always at 3 in the morning lol_niko
- Good god. Glad for you that shit has ceased.garbage

So it's Glastonbury Festival time again - 41 years ago there was not even a proper programme, only the local listings magazine with a few pages dedicated to who was on at the back with Fridays headliner unknown and I still can't remember who it was. Van was big then of course but was dropped into the middle of the afternoon. Judie Tzuke was on again like the year before and as in 1981 they still couldn't spell her name right. Highlights this year for me included Jackson Browne and Randy California.

Holler Feller QBNrs,
Just putting the word out that I'm starting to test the waters for a new creative director gig in the ad world. If any of you fine people hear of openings at agencies or have any connections or contacts, I'd be grateful for any info you can provide.
From talking to recruiters and other agency folks, it certainly seems dire on the hiring front, but there I'm also hearing things are heating up.
I'm preferable to West Coast USA, but open to other locations.
Cheers
