    Everyone has tattoos now.

I always wonder why people want things that look like clip art on their arms forever.

My coworker has an octopus on his forearm. It looks like something you’d find on a stock illustration site. He doesn’t have a good story behind it either. He just hired some random tattoo guy to do it.

This startup I’m involved in is getting pretty intense. Moving along much quicker than I thought.

One thing we don’t have is a name though!

Tossing up between a generic boring type name that explains exactly what we do...and a bit more of a modern catchy name.

It’s a mass market large audience platform.

So as an example if we were in employment (which were not) it’s the choice between something like “Specialised Contract Employment” (boring) and just off the top of my head “Speccy” as something a bit more out there.

What are the trends these days?

I don't know why people always complain over the lack of design content on QBN. It's a forum made up of designers. Sure, most of the time is used on deciding whether we should delete the NSFL scat facial porn thread, or discussing SimonFFM's latest work.

But if you want to discuss crushed blacks or the difference between Neutraface and Josefin Sans, you'll find plenty of people who will.

In conclusion, all designers, talking amostly bout other stuff. But ready to discuss design.

Help! I need a name for a list of criteria I'm using to evaluate exceptional digital work. We're evaluating based on criteria like:

Resonance: Does it inform us in a way that text-only content never could?
Delightfulness: Does it delight us as we use it?
    Memorability: Will we remember it?
Usability: Is the functionality intuitive to use?
Responsive: Is the experience the same across desktop / tablet / mobile?
Enviably Great: Do we wish we had made it?

I need a name for this list so I can call it "the [insert word] list." Totally drawing a blank here. Any ideas?

I was on Reddit reading a big thread on r/cars about Ferrari and Lambo wanting exceptions for themselves and other niche brands when the EU bans gas powered car production.

The thread evolved into comments about how low volume sports cars should be exempt, how so and so's vintage car won't make a difference to emissions since everything else is electric, how "I'll never give up my V8", and on and on.

Ok, I'm fine with all of that. But, nowhere in the 1000 post thread did I read how the hell they plan on getting fuel for these things. Gas stations aren't going to keep pumps running for the 0.01% of cars on the road that still use gas. The store at a gas station is the main money maker anyways. They don't make shit selling fuel (in the US, anyways).

Plus, I highly doubt local government is going to let you keep a couple hundred gallons in a tank in your back yard. So, yeah, that's great you finally got a 911 turbo, but how are you gonna drive it?

    • Small planes and off-site works vehicles will still be using petrol for a while yet. Also, I imagine rich people could afford atmosphere-derived liquid fuels...Nairn
    • ..which will probably become a thing, even if the finance and energy economics aren't exactly wonderful.Nairn
    • Apparently someof the call for exemptions tehre is so that Italy can continue to build 'the bulk' of these things there without becoming utterly reliant...Nairn
    • ..on foreign supply chains. German or Chinese batteries or electic motors or whatever will reduce the cachet of these vehiclesNairn
    • This is all true. Gas stations will slowly convert to charging stations, and then there will be only the rare fuel for old cars and lawn mowers, etc.monospaced
    • Frankly, given the improvements in tech, I think it'll only be oldies, enthusiasts and loud cunts that will prefer ICE vehicles in a couple of decades anyway.Nairn

The other day on my walk to work I happened upon a tired-looking bumble bee in the middle of the path. I stopped, stooped over it and pulled out a piece of tissue paper from my pocket, encouraged it to hop on to it and then went about trying to help it out. I didn't have any water or sweet drink on me, so carried on down the path 'til I found a bin, which I peered into, to see if there was anything it that might sustain a bee. Nothing. Aha! Of course. I can spit! So I took the bee off the path to a secluded corner then set her down and spat onto the wall, and tried to encourage it off the tissue. Little bugger wasn't having any of this, so it took a while. Eventually I just gently pushed her snout into my spit and her proboscis probed it and she decided she'd get off the tissue and have a sup. I sat there with it for a couple of seconds more as it drank and even managed to give it a little stroke, then bid it good luck and farewell, then went about my day.

Up until writing out this schpiel, the only person I told this to (in a more concise form) was my wee daughter. I didn't suppose she really understood what I was babbling on about, but I felt a little precious sharing my quiet saintly act with her.

    .

Just got a text from my partner that said, simply "Good news! Our daughter isn't allergic to bee-stings".

Yesterday, I witnessed a crook climbing down a facade. The house is located across the harbor basin of where I live. It was a good 20ft he had to climb down but he was on the run.

I knew he was fucked, climbing down there. Because, there's no exit there, only a door with spikes on top. So he ran up and down the jetties while I was calling the police.

He grabbed a stand-up-paddle board that was lying around and jumped into the water. I told them, they should call the water police as well.

I was watching him with my binoculars as I was waiting for the police. They took quite a while. After around 8 minutes they were here and I explained to them that the crook had reached the wall and climbed up. I said he might have escaped through the sewerage.

They had to organize a key for the locked door and went down. But they couldn't spot him. So, they asked me to tell them more. I said, he still must be there and we went down to the jetty again to see. There was no connection to sewerage, so I told them, he still must be there.

Meanwhile the water police had arrived, but they did not believe my words and said, we don't see anyone. Maybe the witness (they were speaking about me, while I was standing next to them) did not see that he swam away.

Anyways, it was not my job but theirs. The search went on for around 30 minutes. Then they took off. And the whole thing let me sleep very bad last night. I could not understand how the guy escaped when it seemed impossible.

Today, at lunch, 20 hours after my call to the police, to my surprise, I seem the police at the same spot again.

The crook had hidden in a pigeon cave for 20 hours, over night! And he probably couldn't swim, so he had no chance but to call for help.

After they put him back on land, they released him immediately.

    • Was the crook a pigeon?i_was

We live in different parts of the world, so technology-wise standards are not the same. Here in Germany for example, a lot of people prefer to pay in cash over cards or mobile payment solutions.

Yesterday, I was in France and bought some t-shirts at UNIQLO. They only had one cashier but 8 self-service counters. I really hate to scan tags from goods myself, so I stood in line for the cashier.

Then, they showed me how their self-service works: You throw all clothes in a plastic basket and it immediately shows up the total, you pay by card, done. No scanning of bar codes!

I could not identify where the RFID tag was, but at home, I saw, its glued between two sheets of paper what from the outside looks like a normal price tag.

For me this was an absolute first time experience. Is this common elsewhere in the world already?
