The other day on my walk to work I happened upon a tired-looking bumble bee in the middle of the path. I stopped, stooped over it and pulled out a piece of tissue paper from my pocket, encouraged it to hop on to it and then went about trying to help it out. I didn't have any water or sweet drink on me, so carried on down the path 'til I found a bin, which I peered into, to see if there was anything it that might sustain a bee. Nothing. Aha! Of course. I can spit! So I took the bee off the path to a secluded corner then set her down and spat onto the wall, and tried to encourage it off the tissue. Little bugger wasn't having any of this, so it took a while. Eventually I just gently pushed her snout into my spit and her proboscis probed it and she decided she'd get off the tissue and have a sup. I sat there with it for a couple of seconds more as it drank and even managed to give it a little stroke, then bid it good luck and farewell, then went about my day.

Up until writing out this schpiel, the only person I told this to (in a more concise form) was my wee daughter. I didn't suppose she really understood what I was babbling on about, but I felt a little precious sharing my quiet saintly act with her.

Just got a text from my partner that said, simply "Good news! Our daughter isn't allergic to bee-stings".

    Oops?

    • I'll be honest - once you'd failed to find life-saving fizzy pop, I was fairly sure the bee was going in the bin.Fax_Benson
    • either that or you were going to carry it around Tesco MetroFax_Benson
    • I couldn't put a bee in the bin. I just couldn't. Could anyone?
Partner says it was a random bee incident. Off the hook. Thank coincidence!

    • These exist: https://www.theguard… but they feel a little over-engineeredNairn
    • and, frankly, horrifically wasteful compared to the life of a single bee, as distasteful as it is to put it in those terms. "What value a bee's life?"Nairn
