Super chuffed about a new paint mixture i’m using that has a base of rubber cement (glad i kept that half gallon from school) with naptha to thin it out for airbrushing, and pigment from oil paints. It dries quickly and stretches with latex instead of cracking like acrylics.

Naptha’s been banned for sale in california though, and the stuff i had on hand was used previously for extracting DMT. It’s just saturated with the stuff. So now my work will be durable, but intensely psychedelic if you ever tried to smoke it and didn’t die from inhaling burning latex first

    • Also, i’m essentially aerosolizing lighter fluid so my whole workshop could blow up at any minute. Makes things more excitingscarabin
    • Fun!OBBTKN
    • Maybe search it out under the name "white gas" used in camp stoves, lanterns. See if REI will ship it to you. https://www.rei.com/…monNom
    • Don't oils attack latex?

Also, that sounds like a great way to get brain damage.
      monNom
    • I thought that too so have been using a non-pigmented base coat before applying the stuff containing oil paint just in case.

      Thanks for the sourcing tip!

For the past 6 weeks I've been working nonstop on Kickstarter campaigns for an agency. The products have been super fun and the work has been challenging (kinda like putting an entire website on one page in a few days). But anyways... the KS world has inspired me to look further into an idea I once had... so my question is,

What lightweight 3D program would be good to use to help create prototypes for a simple kitchen product (no mechanisms, no power)?

    • Sketchup might be good?
You might be able to download some pre-made assets too.

    • SketchUp or Fusion 360. Both cost money for pro use. There’s always blender but it’s not really made for precise engineering.monospaced
    • @mono - i've no dog in the game, but why do you say that about Blender? I use Illy for all my 'CAD' stuff - but at a 'small' scale. I'd assume it'd be similarNairn
    • +1 on sketchup alsoNairn
    • Blender is fine. Both it and Sketchup export stl files for manufacturing. Blender has better modelling tools and finer control over geometry. Plus, it doesn't..face_melter
    • ...completely fucking mangle the geometry while exporting, like Sketchup does.face_melter
    • Blender is great and can be precise, but it isn't geared for precise engineering work in general. More of a free form modeling workflow.monospaced
    • I wouldn't even consider SketchUp and Blender in the same category, let alone competitors. Totally different things.monospaced
    • SketchUp is more like Illustrator than Blender, in my opinion. Lots of "smart" snapping, precise movements, simple display.monospaced

I've 'shown off' about two things recently and in very quick measure had karma/murphy bite me on the ass. This is why I don't.

On Friday I mentioned here that someone called me a 'laser extraordinaire' or words to that effect (admittedly, I only said this after a couple of troublesome days last week, as mental relief).

Well, today - Monday, was utterly terrible. I seriously fucked up a job last week - I thought I'd completed it with a large margin for error - turns out, I'd interpreted the quantities wrong, so not only had I not finished what was a last-minute job, but my supposed large-margin turned out to be an "oh fuck, do I have enough to even finish this?" very small-margin.

    So far, so boring.

Yesterday at a Sunday lunch with a load of friends I'd not seen in a while, when the conversation somehow came around to it, I exclaimed with no small amount of admiration how susprised I was at how quickly my daughter had transitioned from nappies to just pants. Like, two months - no problems! Fuck yeah!

45 minutes later she'd slightly dampened herself. One change of clothes down (in an awkward-for-changing pub in Brixton). About an hour after that, she totally pissed through another set of clothes. Ok. About an hour and a half after that, I had her in my lap dicking around with a piano in the back of the place and... she just totally pissed herself. Sat in my lap. Ffs. Then I had to carry her to get her changed, so had piss all over my shirt too. In public. An hour away from where I live. I didn't bring a change of shirt or shorts. Next time, perhaps.

This morning, I was proud - she woke us at 7am to go pee. She's not done that before. Yaay! After, I put her into my bed and try and get another hour or so of kip and then slept in a bit, after she spent 40 minutes kicking my back. An hour and a half and a sleep-in later little, fucker pissed in our bed too. On my side.

Fuck you, Karma. Go find some other fool, I've had enough.

    • "oh fuck, do I have enough *time/material*to even finish this?"

Edit doesn't make this any more interesting, sorry.

Was looking for a place to get a pedicure. Google recommended a LGBT friendly place close to where I live. I called them up. They asked if I wanted lacquer. I said, no, I am male. They answered: we cannot give you an appointment before October. What?

I went downtown and went to an Asian place. Male friendly people there.

So I fucked up a job, quite badly.

Well, I say I fucked it up - the client gave me an earful (via email) last night when she got home and was clearly annoyed that she'd not received what she expected, so since 10pm last night I've had a tightly-twisted knot in my stomach, because obviously I assume it's my fault.

Checked the emails and the offcut remnants (which I always keep for a while, for exactly this reason) and.. she's clearly agreed to what I've given her. She stated a list, I confirmed it with a visual proof of sorts, and then I've done what she asked.

I've laid this all out in an email to her, but... yeah, I'm thinking this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Ho hum. Still got a knot in my stomach.

Looked out the window today in LDN and saw at 10.30am a car full of non indigenous looking dudes: scruffy beards, baseball caps, cotton tracksuit slacks, poor taste in music.

They had plastic bottles of coca cola in hand, large smartphones, 200ml bottles of whiskey or rum. They drank said rum/whiskey. They also had a big bag of balloons. As they left they also smoked a joint.

    At 10.30am.

As they moved on, they opened their car door a little and just dumped their spent balloons, gas canisters, half drunk coca cola bottles. Even though a bin was 3 metres away from them.

All I could think was "What is benefit to society to have them in it?"
