It seems that today is Tree Surgery Saturday. :)
This magnificent tree also bothers my wife, so every ten years we have this done...- More like an amputation.utopian
- Why do they cut it down so drastically? That is beyond pruning and leaves a pretty serious eyesore.monospaced
- Its called Pollarding and the tree recovers in a couple of years and is more healthy.Morning_star
- Got it.monospaced
- Half on topic, i made a book about tree for a tree nursery ;)tank02
- i think you would end up doing this in a decade. that other one looks sad with the fence built into it.sted
- @sted, Those two trees are exactly the same age.Morning_star
- hah could be the optics but this one looks like has/had :) a healthier crown.
do you know how those scars happened?sted - needs more Benny Hill themeGardener
- @Gardener yes! :) @morning_star wow, but who has time for that?api

A good friend of mine has an elderly cat with a skin condition, he's spent years getting her on the right medication nursing her back to health (much to his own detriment). She's a lovely, friendly cat but very slight, still has some bald patches and discolouration of her fur where she's over-groomed.
She went missing a couple days ago and he's been freaking out... turns out THE ADMIN of a local lost pets group on facebook 'rescued' her from the front garden. The street he lives on is in the city has a lot of association housing and is right beside a gentrified block of cafes and yoga studios who use it for parking, so there's some element of snobbery... It seems she didn't ask any of the neighbours (who all know the score) just stuck the cat in her car and drove home (10 miles away in the suburbs)
In the comments of the post she made multiple other loopers talking about trying to take the same cat from [describing my mates front garden] saying it has been mauled by dogs, has mange/mites etc. Folks saying they have fed it (the cat has a strict diet so have undoubtedly made it worse). He needs to make a sign to inform these people, who are obviously well-meaning. Just so much undue stress for the owner and wee cat - posting here so I don't tear through them all on Facebook.
- That's shitty. :-(PhanLo
- it would seem that the folks in these groups think theres more people stealing and feeding cats to dogs than cat ladies taking in cats they assume are strays...kingsteven
- i am of the opinion most cats go missing because of the latter. this woman put the photo on facebook for 24h rather than taking the cat to get its chip scanned.kingsteven
- she's home now, but aye just very frustratingkingsteven

Why do realtors want to show places at like 11am on a Tuesday.
When do they think I'm working to pay rent?
- they prefer when tenants aren't around to show the place.pango
- Some of these are standalone places.bainbridge
- maybe multiple showing in a day. and you're just happened to be the 11am.pango

Middle of August and I'm fucking chilly, sat in work in shorts and a shirt. ffs, am I going to have to put a jumper on?!
- i havehans_glib
- take more vitaminspinkfloyd
- yes. jumpers are on, it's english summer init.shapesalad
- Had a much higher percentage of shorts wearing this year compared to the previous 25, but it's defo getting into jumper weather again.PhanLo
- nothing like a jumper + shorts combo. top half ready for the cold, lower half ready for the warmth = equilibrium of body temp.shapesalad
- I typically short-up in May and don't get back into trousers until Late Sep or early Oct. This year? I had to buy my bi-annual jeans waaay earlier than usual.Nairn
- It's chilled off a bit today here in Ontario, Canada after a fuck ton of heat wave like conditions; sweater on!ideaist
- same here, it's hoodie mondayapi
- No summer here in Baskeland, global warming is a hoax ;)OBBTKN
- Apparently it's fucking warm in the south of Spain, as my father just delightedly reported in response to my whinging.
The cunt.Nairn - Nairn ffsake it's over 40 degrees in Spain and most of Europe lol
HOW is it chilly in the UK how even?! How can you even afford this luxury weather, how even?!grafician - It's like 2,000 km away.monospaced

- Huh, I always figured food was particularly cheap in the States? I mean, if it's good, I'd pay it, but .. well, I thought it'd be cheaper.Nairn
- Most expensive sandwich at a place BlueJam introduced me to recently here in LDN is £9 - https://peckpeck.co.…Nairn
- I think people pay a couple extra bucks for these items so they can say they ate at the Breaking Bad restaurant. These prices are a little steep even for herescarabin
- yeah, they're smoking crack with these prices.section_014
- lovely battery farm antibiotic chicken meat. Just buy an organic chicken, 10mins chopping it up. I make 11 meals from 1 chicken for 1/2 the price of that crap.shapesalad
- The prices reflect the novelty, these are twice as high as they should be.monospaced
- Wait, isn't this the chicken place from Breaking Bad?Akagiyama

Celebrated my parents 60th wedding anniversary this past weekend. Being married for almost 11 myself, I look at the patience, devotion and love that it takes to make it that long and it blows me away - especially in todays world.
A while ago, my father told me how sometime back in the 80s my Mom told him she wanted a divorce, but he said he wouldn't do it. I'm grateful that they never got divorced - and my Mom has not been holding a grudge all this time.
We went out to a restaurant on Saturday which is a big deal. My pops (85 yo) has a degenerative condition called neuropathy that has affected his legs and he can't really walk without the help of a walker. He uses it in the house and it's so hard to watch him because it's not an easy task but he doesn't want the help. So we found a restaurant that had a relatively easy entrance for him and he had such a good time. It was so good to see him enjoying himself out for a night.

After 11 years in the US I am finally going to visit Canada! Never been 'upstairs' before but we're shooting a portion of a campaign in Vancouver. EXCITING
- Vancouver is a beauty. Enjoy!Krassy
- Great rates at the Patricia Hotel********
- Went to Vancouver with the office a while ago. I slipped away from the tour, met an Irish guy at a bar near the water, got drunk and made out. Good times.face_melter
- I’ve still never been to Canada despite living in the US for basically my whole life. Last trip was canceled due to Covid in 2020.monospaced

The cafeteria at my work place has been renovated: they removed all cash registers. Instead its an open all-you-can-eat buffet (with some exceptions) and you pay with an app on your phone. No one checks anything.
Communism is inevitableDiscuss

Props to the moderators for promptly removing xenophobic content!
Xenophobic and/or racist users ought also to be removed should their stupid malarkey continue.

Went to pick up my phone up from the repair shop today and a mate Ben had messaged me "why don't they make egg flavour crisps" and I could see the notification on the screen as the lad was waving it about inspecting the glue job on the new screen... tbh, it's a pretty good glue job but ffs Ben

For any Avalanches fans, they recently released a 20th anniversary edition of "Since I Left You" with some really nice remixes on it. Particularly this one from Carl Craig:
