Wife and I are thinking of buying a second house. This and our retirement funds' monthly costs are going to put us again in "poverty-mode" (no brand new cars, no expensive trips...).
Going to talk with her about it during this next january, look at our expenses, savings, etc.
Awww... What would our life as a couple be without these exciting moments? LOL
- “ no brand new cars, no expensive trips...” is poverty mode?!********

Some people are not smart.
It's strange when you have a convo with someone and don't connect at all.

I don't have a bike since March. I've been riding my girlfriends bike all the time.
I wanted to build a bike before my daughter was born last December but I didn't find a proper frame in second hand so far.
Am i being cheap?
Maybe, but I know if I buy a new frame I will by a lot of new parts and I'll end up spending 1000€ and no time to build the bike.Thing is I have a lots of good parts but from the 90's and 00's.
So for the last month I'm looking into a second hand bike with price limit 700€.
Surly, Bombtrack, Trek 520, Cinelli...No sucess so far.
It has to be steel and I need it for daily use but also for some touring.
It can't be fancy cause I don't want it to be stolen.Maybe I should get punched for...
- I’ve got a Peugeot frame here that needs some love before it rusts away.?hans_glib
- ah! if it's a racing frame then it's not what I'm looking for as I still have my fixed gear waiting for a paint job.oey_oey
- besides, I found a complete Bombtrack Arise for 500€. Okay it's a thin frame but damn is it gorgeous.oey_oey
- but you can still send me a picture hans! and thanks for your readiness.oey_oey

Let's be honest here, 2021 will also fuck us in many unknown yet ways we can't even begin to comprehend yet, but let's stick around and make it better shall we?
Great then, best of luck to us all and
kisses from your optimist Romanian friend!

I've been flipping through 10–20 year old issues of Juxtapoz and Creative Review to see if anything is worth saving before finally tossing them.
What caught me were the ads in CR: phone numbers big and bold, web addresses small and tucked away. So many stock photo sites. Print bureaus were big, bragging about 24 hour turnaround, lots of courier imagery.
The big refresh of CR was April 2011, but in my mind it was just a few years ago.
Juxtapoz doesn't feel as dated, but a lot of the art/illustration had that Adbusters counterculture or intentionally sloppy/naïve/outsider vibe that doesn't seem to be a thing as much anymore.
Can't bring myself to toss my IdN stack just yet.
- I have a few issues of CR from various stages of their design. Graphic too. Consider keeping them to have a "history" of aesthetics from '90s-'20sgrafician
- The only CR I kept was the one that sold out its front cover and had quotes from NT/QBN in.Nairn
- what edition was that?sted
- 2011 for CR's refresh? that long? Christ.Continuity
- What are magazines?shapesalad
- lol, I just tossed a bunch of old Juxtapoz, CR, lookbooks, etc that I was hanging on to for possible collage work. It's just so dated.garbage
- I've pared it down to a stack of Vice, vintage NatGeo, Monocle and Lapham's.garbage
- May have to toss a few years of Monocle soon too.i_monk
- @sted - I'll try and dig it out. It was black-faced with a single old-school price sticker stating what'd been spent on winning the auction-thing.Nairn

Has anyone made a QBN coronavirus roll call thread? So we can keep track of which QBN members currently have it or had it?
Ok roll call. Who has it now, or has had in 2020.
Raise hand
- shabooya, sha, sha, shabooya, roll call!dorf
- i wonder about that too. but i don't think a roll call is necessarypango
- For what purpose? You may as well ask who here has webbed toes or who most looks like a dolphin.face_melter
- It's kind of shocking how it progressed. At first the only QBN people who had it were lurkers. Then it was the parents/grandparents of popular members. Now,cherub
- Now popular members are getting it.cherub

My buddy Pat with the guitar solo at the end.
From his FB page:
"Had a blast contributing to this cover of the classic DJ Shadow tune “Midnight in a Perfect World” with friends both old and new.
Shadow brilliantly utilized the track “The Madness Subsides” by the Finnish composer Pekka Pohjola for both the main electric piano and the electric guitar solo samples on “Midnight In A Perfect World”. I thought it would be fun to pay tribute to the amazing guitarist Coste Apetrea
on Pohjola’s original track by playing his guitar solo note for note over DJ Shadow’s arrangement.

It's half two in the afternoon on my first day back in the studio in the New Year and I'm freezing my ass off and regretting coming in.
I've got work to do, but clearly I'm the only person in North London stupid enough to come to work today as all my clients appear to still be in Xmas mode.
I might just get drunk. Should keep me warm at least (I'm straddling an oil heater under the desk here, wearing long-johns, a thermal top under two thin wool jumpers and a hoodie, along with a large woollen scarf and a wool hat — and I'm still fucking cold. Can't type or use a mouse in gloves though).
- I'm drinking beer(s) working in bed @Nairn; let's lower the bar right now!
: )ideaist - You're not alone, pal. I'm working too, seems like I'm the only one working here. Not cold, fireplace is on, home is warm... but hangover echoes still on headOBBTKN

Me and the fam (wife and 2 boys; 2 and 6) have got to move.
We've been renting a farmhouse for years and and the owners (in their 80s) are moving back in.
We both work remote AND can go anywhere in EST time zone...
...Like designing with no guidelines, it is both exciting AND nerve-racking. Where do you go when you can go anywhere and why?
Ontario, Canada by the way.
