Okay, I rarely post anything personal on here anymore. Probably my own fault for being such a bell-end in the past. But hey ho, I'm not one to dwell on the past.
Anyway, I set myself a new challenge this year. Something I have had inside me since childhood / early teens.
I grew up loving film more than anything (even more than art which came close second). Film was massive in my house growing up. I watched 100’s of films. My dad sold furniture most of his life and did a deal on a sofa with the local video shop owner - unlimited rentals for us. I was like a sponge. There were little restrictions on what I could watch either. Roeg's Don't Look Now as a youngish child has stuck with me my entire life, what were my parents thinking ha? But I am grateful, it's a masterpiece as were a lot of the other films I watched growing up.
And a big chunk of my youth was spent making films on a camcorder. Editing them with the camera and one VHS player. They weren't very good but I loved it and had the bug.
I always hoped I would be either an artist or a filmmaker. The former seemed more achievable back then.
I went to art school, then studied fine art at university, loved it, but there was always that nagging filmmaker inside me so I ended up doing a lot of video work on my degree. Quite odd video installations. I also loved painting but always felt it was a little pointless as 'the means of production' were changing so fast (digital media was really taking off at this time) so I started using video as a 'painterly' medium. I created long videos of abstract morphing forms. Basically digital paintings that slowly changed over hours. Barely noticeable unless you sat there for a long time. I was happy with those.
I got my degree but then fell into graphic/web design because I had spent most of my Fine Art degree using the new digital tools available. I never felt comfortable as a designer, I still don't. I was never trained in graphic design. But it has been my main source of income for the last 20+ years. Career wise, I'm a jack of all trades, master of none if I am honest.
I have always carried on with my art on the side, some years more productive than others. I did a solo show many years back which went well. But I kind of chickened out of that dream as I always liked having money, never a lot but enough to get by. Chasing the art dream would have meant a lot of sacrifices, I think I still regret that decision now.
Anyway, the reason I am posting. I set myself a task this year - to finally complete a film script. I have tried many times and failed many times. None of my ideas really hooked me to the point where I could sit day after day and complete them. The last couple of years I had an idea that did stick. I spent at least a year building it inside my head. It grew and grew. Characters came to life. The plot became real. I thought to myself I need to do this now. I'm in my 40's, time isn't on my side. Especially to change direction with 2 children to support. But I thought I would give it a go and glad I did.
I'm happy to say I am 75% through the project. I am really pleased with it so far. It kind of spilled out of me. I'm sure working on these things becomes easier in your 40's. Way more life experience. Pretentiousness is low. Your inner voice is clearer. Screenwriting suits me as well, it's v.functional writing. It's about telling a story in a concise way.
So the point of this post? I just think your 40's are a great time to achieve lifelong goals if you can make the time (i.e. many late nights). A few years ago I decided to achieve some music goals also (something I have also done pretty much my whole life). That went well but I know deep down there are many others better who have probably devoted more of their lives to it and are more deserving.
I haven't completed the project yet but I know I will. And will anything come of it? I hope so, it's definitely a product of the times (in an unexpected way) but I will also be happy if it doesn't. Just doing/completing something I have always wanted to try will be enough.
It would take balls of steel to share it on here when complete, not sure I could but who knows.
Sorry for the length of this post but I thought I would share my thoughts as I would love to hear any other members' experiences of screenwriting if you have any? Or of achieving major goals in your 40's.
Thanks.
p.s. What thread to put this in? midlife crisis or blog... either really but blog will do :)

Well, there you go.
She said it was a big misunderstanding, that she mis-used the word 'date', with regards to spending time with the bloke she'd made plans with. She'd already told him she wasn't interested in him romantically and only wanted to hang out as friends (plans made before ever meeting me), and she really wants to see me again.
Not surprisingly, though, apparently the guy didn't take 'no' for an answer and tried to put the moves on her several times during the evening. It was approaching 'fucking scary' territory, until she made her excuses and fucked off.

After yesterday's attack on the BMW, I have decided to address the motorcycle.
As some of you know, it was stolen and recovered a couple years ago. Since then it has been blasted, repainted a new color, given a 4 into 1 titanium exhaust, power commander, and dyno tune. It was reassembled hastily after paint was complete and no other changes have been made.
That being said, I've decided to clean it, which turned into detailing it. The entire front end is now disassembled minus the forks. I noticed I was missing a grommet for a gauge cluster fairing piece. About to buy one, I searched my parts to see if I had found it, but never installed it later. I then found I had already ordered a new set of two, so I started to wonder what else I had that needed completed.
I found a new bolt that I'm not sure where it goes, 4 bolts I ordered accidentally using the incorrect part #, a louder aftermarket horn, 3 sets of front turn signals to choose from (current are stock), led flasher module, exhaust spring rubber sleeves, tank protector, and the tank stickers that were never applied after paint.
I also have these fairing fasteners that are little circles in the middle that you press in and they pop out. I had ordered extras of those and they arrived in a completely new part that does not match the original in style, size, or shape. so no to those. #wtfjapan
Then there's this problem that I have a solution for but still no answer for.
Years ago, before buying the LED flasher module, I had attempted to install a set of LED turn signals that caused issues I didn't have parts for, plus I didn't really like the look of them installed. I decided to buy a different set of lights I thought fit better and the module to make it work, but then I moved on, did other things and never worried about it. Then I found another set of lights for it that would look better than the other two that I thought would motivate me. That was last year, so today could be momentous (probably this week).
If you're still reading, here's the biggest kicker to this entire turn signal saga that still plagues me to this day...
If you buy a "fits OEM" aftermarket part, it comes with two wires. If you search the part number to buy a used part, the photos display a light with two wires going into a gray factory Kawasaki connector. If you search the part number and try to buy a factory Kawasaki replacement, it has two wires and the same connector. The Kawasaki parts & assemble book has a diagram that shows the part number for the replacement part with two wires. If you buy an adapter from CustomLED, the connector is built for two wires.
Now that I have everything disassembled, I'm reminded: "Oh yeah, my wiring harness has three wires for some reason." I understand the three wire setup serves a running light purpose which my current lights do support, but why can I not find a replacement? Why does the replacement front light (three wire) now seem to be the same as the back light (two wire)? Not that I want my lights again, but why do they seem different to what is now available as a factory replacement either new or used?
Why is mine different!? #wtfjapan

Update (aka Thrilling Conclusion):
I have always known the bike was originally built from existing Kawasaki parts to keep costs down. (car manufacturers do it too.) So there are Ninja 750 and 900 parts beginning at the engine going back all over the rear half. Knowing that, I presumed electrical was shared to some extent, so I started looking at lights from those models / years.
The connectors do not match. The 750/900 lights have two wires w/ gray clip. Looking at the connectors on my lights, they are different from the manual (which appear to be two individual wires). Mine are three wires that plug in individually. I had initially thought I clipped the wires all those years ago only have to repair it after the initial lights did not work out, but...
I have found my lights, they are off the 250 of the same year, several years prior and a few after actually. The connectors are the same and the shape is identical.
Again, not that I want those lights but now I can presume it is a printing error in the manual as you can tell the difference between the diagram and what was manufactured in the end is the running light capability. No running lights on the 750/900, but the 250 did have running lights. (The amount of aftermarket parts that were built and sold by this error is incalculable.)
One is left to assume it was a safety / insurance issue in the end as the bike sat more upright with motocross bars and no fairing than its non fuel injected, smaller engined brothers receiving a touring status vs sport according to insurance. Adding a running light only serves to complement the overall safety.
I would have preferred they manufactured what was in the manual.
- What manual do you have? You should look into getting a Clymer manual and if something does not make sense in one cross reference in the other.eryx
- There are slightly different instructions that could make things easier in one rather then the other, you can also verify that this is a manual error.eryx
- it is the kawasaki repair manual published by kawasaki.imbecile

Just received this email :
"I know (#######) is your pass. Lets get straight to the purpose. No-one has compensated me to check about you. You may not know me and you are probably thinking why you're getting this email?
actually, i actually placed a software on the 18+ vids (porn) website and guess what, you visited this site to have fun (you know what i mean). When you were watching video clips, your browser started out functioning as a RDP having a key logger which gave me accessibility to your display and also cam. Just after that, my software obtained all your contacts from your Messenger, Facebook, and e-mail . and then i created a double-screen video. First part displays the video you were watching (you've got a good taste haha . . .), and 2nd part displays the view of your web camera, and its you.
You actually have two choices. We should go through these types of choices in details:
1st choice is to disregard this email. in this case, i am going to send out your video to every bit of your contacts and also just imagine concerning the embarrassment you will definitely get. Furthermore if you are in an important relationship, how it can affect?
Second choice will be to give me $976. Let us describe it as a donation. Then, i most certainly will instantaneously remove your video. You will carry on with your daily routine like this never took place and you will not ever hear back again from me.
You will make the payment through Bitcoin (if you don't know this, search 'how to buy bitcoin' in Google).
in case you are thinking about going to the police, anyway, this mail can not be traced back to me. I have covered my actions. i am just not attempting to charge you a whole lot, i want to be paid for. read through%} this emaimz if i don't receive the bitcoin, i will send your video to all of your contacts including family members, coworkers, and so on. Having said that, if i receive the payment, i'll destroy the video right away. If you need evidence, reply with Yea! then i will send your video to your 10 contacts. it is a non-negotiable offer, and so don't waste my time & yours by replying to this message."

What's with this growing trend on LinkedIn of people in tech / XD / design / product or agency world writing long-winded look-at-me posts about the new job they accepted, why they accepted it, what moved them about it, why they're so excited posts to tell everyone they got a new job?

Just read an article about the problem with tourism, there's over-tourism in many places, too much tourists. People has never travel that much in History.
Experts and surveys point out the social medias as the main source of the problem. And from those surveys, people are chosing their destinations on the Instagrammable factor of the place. So everyone ends up at the same spots.
I think I'm getting old.
- tourists generate tons of business and profits, so I'm struggling to see the actual problem, other than having foreigners aroundmonospaced

Feeling amaziiing! I got a call from the Maltese rescue letting me know that my application was the best fit for this cute little 8 year old Maltese girl who weighs a whopping 6lbs!? (2.7kgs) I'm not used to such a small dog but I need a little Muppet in my life. :D she's coming to me on summer solstice so she's definitely a blessing. (damn hippie)
Some back story.. I lost both my dogs within the past year and was hesitant about getting another. It was needless to say heartbreaking and didn't feel ready. But with my life finally coming into place this just feels like it happened at the perfect time. I'm so ready, I think?! What should I wear?! XD Nervous excited melting! Haha

A friend of mine is in the middle of a bit of a world tour. Currently in Iceland and posting some brilliant photos. But he's also been posting some drone video...and although the footage is great, I can only imagine what the people at the same location must be thinking about a fucking annoying drone buzzing around them in these remote, isolated wonderlands?
Would drive me fucking bonkers.

worldimbecile - YEP!
#TourismBennn - i don't understand the complaint. capitalism did this. built the drone, the plane, created the disposable income to travel. this is why we're alive. //imbecile
- Well, if it's in remote areas - then no one will hear it. No?shapesalad
- The locals could always call the Iranians for help...shapesalad
- imbecile, perhaps capitalism also created the reluctance to empathise with or spare a thought for the locals.MrT
- indeed it did! (i hope you didn't miss my above sarcasm "//")imbecile
- I bloody well did miss it!MrT
