The domain registrar I've used since the late 90s has finally gotten around to updating their back-end - it's been pretty much the same in all the time I've been with them.
Part of this upgrade is teh requirement for an updated password - fair enough, the one I use there is comically short and easy to hashbang, if an avenue was provided.
Except.. they're doign it the retard way:
contain at least 8 characters
contain utmost 16 characters
contain at least 2 digit(s)
contain at least 1 lowercase alphabet(s)
contain at least 1 uppercase alphabet(s)
contain at least 1 special character(s)
contain only the following allowed special characters: ~!@#*^-$%&()+=_?/{}This is, as far as I know, bad practice - especially, in my mind, the 8-16 character limit. Much better to have, say, 128 character limit and let people write whatever the fuck they like. Now I've got to find the magical bowl of porridge that fits this mostly arbitrary criteria.

so i realized and have to admit that i've been using this guy mike for a really long time now. i mean i considered him a friend and hung out with him a lot (mostly lunch meetings and such) but today realized that underneath everything i've been using him to hopefully one day cash out on him. he's really smart and i just was trying to stay within his close biz circle/network so that hopefully could be a partner (which at some point we were).. i think the point i'm making is don't mix business with friends and don't do what i did which is make a 'friend' only based on hopes of some business interaction. sometimes i feel i was used by him (as i have gotten him jobs, connections, work for his company w/o pay, was promised equity, was considered a biz partner, done biz deals) but today realized that it wasn't him using me so much as it was me always using him. even though i had done so much for him, the line of business/friends was too blurred, and now i don't find that i like him much as a friends or business - and realize that i wouldn't have liked or hung out him to all along if i hadn't been essentially using him to try and further my career. anyway FML, that was too long an investment for it not to pay out.
oh well. lesson learned in life i suppose. don't use people?

Working from home today as I want to focus on re-doing my website without the distraction of machinery in the background - also, the heating works better here. I'm very rarely here throughout weekdays, so am unaccustomed to the rituals and routines of my neighbours.
I'm less than thrilled to learn that apparently my upstairs neighbour likes to listen to thrashing metal/punk loudly in the afternoon and that my old next door neighbour has his TV set turned up quite loudly too whilst he watches bombastic movies.
I thought older brick buildings were better at sound absorption. I am, as I often find myself in life, completely incorrect.
