All i know is my companies health insurance had to be switched out before its normal date due to obamacare. And as an individual I saw 12.8 percent increase as an individual and family plans saw a 3% increase. And that was the cheapest after shopping around where some other plans saw near a 100% increase. And coverage still sucks. If the company gave me what they put into insurance for me I could have found a better plan privately and made an extra hundred bucks a month. I even told them but they wouldn't so not sure if its a tax benefit or just social taboo of being a employer who doesnt pay for insurance, or just headache with paper work. However that probably isn't even the case anymore since most of the detrimental healthplans are axed as not having "enough" coverage...
- omg-1
there's not really much to say at this point. I guess I gotta pay this shit. The paper work really fucking kills me. They better start building a new hospital next store to me, with a drive-thru for medicinal marijuana to cure sadness and boredom which can serious affect ones life. And if I want free condoms and lube, they better have some in the lobby for me to grab.

From the sounds of it, anyone young and healthy is better off paying the fine, and just paying out of pocket for the random medical expenses you might incur every couple of years. Then when you get hit with something serious, jump onto a plan, as you can't be turned down.
Seriously, $6k/year (or whatever) buys a LOT of visits to the doctor.
Also, because of the above, this scheme is completely bonkers.

I still don't really get why you lot can't just have a national health service for everyone paid for through salary deductions like the rest of the civilised world. But, OK, that's just me.

The rates are outrageous. When i was trying to sign up i was quoted $600 for 2 people on $24k income (i run a company, much of my income is eaten up by expenses). And then the shit plan would still required $6k in deductibles before the insurance kicked in.
For $6k i can buy plane tix to Germany, have my hip replaced and be back "for breakfast."

I think collective systems are great for medical emergencies and can be effective in cost. The problem I see is that 30-40% of medical cost is from paperwork, bureaucracy, even in private insurance.
most chronic disease is preventive. Yet I dont see much focus on prevention. education on prevention, but it will save a ton of money. of course at cost of profit to larger political entities. Drug companies in my mind are no different then tabacco companies in the same recard of they want your money through addiction, and who give a damn as long as the FDA has their backs.
Its a corrupt system for many reasons I wont get into, so how will a corrupt system produce a gold nugget out of medical care.
What the system propagandizes itself to be and what it is are two different things.

You truly have to live in both systems: individualistic yet corrupt capitalism AND elitists yet socially conscious European socialism to fully comprehend the issues at hand.
Socialized medicine will never work in US because this country doesn't have a tradition of caring about "others." The country is too proudly individualistic. Likewise specifically because of that, any quasi-socialized medicine (the Obama Care) will fail because the "individualistic capitalist sharks" will find a way how to fuck regular Joe Nobody. This is the point that's very hard to comprehend for typical European - one can by philosophically for universal healthcare (as i am) but against its real implications (as i am) because i lived in US long enough to know that lunch ain't even free here.

"The country is too proudly individualistic. " - that's a pretty nice way to say people are selfish and motivated only by what benefits them, at that moment.
A shame we are getting a half assed system. But I'll take it, I was paying about $600/month pre Obamacare (lovely pre-existing fuck many of us over). Now I am paying $400 and it'll go down to $313 next year. That's a pretty substantial reduction (and will have lower dr visit costs, lower deductibles)
Go Obamacare!! All you suckas gotta pay for me now!! Haha. Bought time.

move to australia.
Then again, here if we do not sign up to our national 'medicare' scheme (which allows us emergency hospital free etc) you are charged 1.5% extra on your income come tax time.
A little secret - (my brother is top doctor in intensive care) in Australia - if you get run over on the weekend and you also have private health insurance, go to a public hospital - the amount of extra staff on a weekend is two fold - interns etc. Fact.
Hope this helps. M2C.

Also - Australia sits second:

'Performing is a political statement': who will play Donald Trump's inauguration?
According to a recent report, not a single local Washington DC marching band has applied to perform during Trump’s swearing-in, making it the first time in decades regional band acts are not going to be involved in the festivities.
It was recently reported that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was set to perform alongside the Marine Corps band, both positioned on the outdoor stand during Trump’s swearing-in, while the Rockettes will also perform.
