You truly have to live in both systems: individualistic yet corrupt capitalism AND elitists yet socially conscious European socialism to fully comprehend the issues at hand.
Socialized medicine will never work in US because this country doesn't have a tradition of caring about "others." The country is too proudly individualistic. Likewise specifically because of that, any quasi-socialized medicine (the Obama Care) will fail because the "individualistic capitalist sharks" will find a way how to fuck regular Joe Nobody. This is the point that's very hard to comprehend for typical European - one can by philosophically for universal healthcare (as i am) but against its real implications (as i am) because i lived in US long enough to know that lunch ain't even free here.
