"The country is too proudly individualistic. " - that's a pretty nice way to say people are selfish and motivated only by what benefits them, at that moment.
A shame we are getting a half assed system. But I'll take it, I was paying about $600/month pre Obamacare (lovely pre-existing fuck many of us over). Now I am paying $400 and it'll go down to $313 next year. That's a pretty substantial reduction (and will have lower dr visit costs, lower deductibles)
