picked up an Error Instruments Radio Sputnik, it's been around a few years in various formats. Incredible combo of nostalgic creepiness and simplicity to emulate the sounds of tuning in to 'pip' stations on an AM radio (everyone who's in to synths did this as a kid right?) with an odd binary sequencer/ beat divider that emulates the pulses of the Russian station UVB-76.
Had to get what remains of my eurorack system down from the attic to get extra cables and multiples, I had sworn off it but getting notions of taking the modular in a different direction this time, staying away from anything predictable and conventionally musical, maybe expanding this in to something akin to a VCS-3

Experimenting with wild abandon is what modular is all about IMO.mort_ - that's a peach of a thing.hans_glib
- i got too in to digital euro stuff like mutable, flame that was the rage at the time. but i replaced it all with a microfreak!kingsteven
- Your old Mutable modules might be worth more than you paid for them now that they’re all out of production.mort_
- UVB-76 was my ringtone for about a decade. Even pitched up, I had a Pavlovian urge to check my phone.garbage
- Pretty coolYakuZoku

Finally had my EP released! It's been a long road, but I'm so happy its finally out. Got to work with an amazing vocalist, Zacari, on the first track.
https://open.spotify.com/album/4…
I'm also trying to find a good mixer for all my synths/drummachines. I'd like to be able to play them all at once without losing time hooking/unhooking stuff.
This looks like the best option:
Anyone have any suggestions?
- anywhere else to listen? I don't do spotify.fadein11
- ^ https://soundcloud.c…ltjohnrambo
- that line mixer is gorgeous but holy $$$prophetone
- Yeah, there's not much in the mid price range. Mostly Mackie-level stuff and then really expensive mini-consoles. I'm hoping to find one used.ltjohnrambo
- Nice synth sounds.shapesalad
- Thanks shape!ltjohnrambo
- Buy a patchbay.. cheaperautoflavour
- Although decent second hand mixers can be picked up reasonably cheap.. depends on how many channels u needautoflavour
- Nice and on the legendary Nervous. Had no idea they were still going. Where are the other tracks on SC?fadein11
- i fux with this, nice stuff man congrats!helloeatbreathedrive
- Congratulations! Great sound! Love it. Would love to collab if you're interested.SimonFFM
- Got a great deal this morning on the X Sum!! Thanks for the kind words guys! @SimonFFM send me a link and I'll check it outltjohnrambo

- you ever record or master onto tape?inteliboy
- Auto's toys!microkorg
- Here's hoping the Machinedrum get's a 2.0 like the rest of the lineup. I totally missed out when those were going for cheap.section_014
- way back in the day i used to record everything onto DATs as takes, but that was only because it was before DAW were affordable..autoflavour
- Machinedrum already has a MKII ..autoflavour
- am lusting hard over a RYTM tho.. if only for symmetry ..autoflavour
- A lot of RYTMs popping up on eBay ATM... does that mean a 2.0 is imminent?...keewee
- keewee ... already happened.microkorg
- You have more toys than I do.sublocked
- late to the game...keewee
- autoflavour5
- although, 62hp of that usually is in a Intellijel Pallette. so maybe not as bad as anticipatedautoflavour

- All currently at disposal.. all $13k of itautoflavour
- Wow! Do you use the Quad VCAs mostly as sub-mixes into your audio interface? Trying to figure out my in-rack mixer requirements atm.mort_
- 'Where The Fun Is' thread :)mort_
- Quad VCA's as sub mixes for sure, but not always. Usually only 2 channels in my case. Doepfer a-138 series is great for mixers(and cheap).section_014
- Thanks section_014. Yeah, been looking at the Doepfer a-138s and the Befaco STMix since I have some stereo modules.mort_
- Your gear always blows my mind.garbage
- That's what she said.mort_
- I use my quad VCA for manipulating the signal.. I also have a a138 as a simple mixer, but I'm not really doing anything super complicated with it.autoflavour
- but the Quad VCA are definitely for sculpting the sound..autoflavour

I'm not sure I've ever posted music in this thread, here's some recent tracks that have beats!
- Lovely!mort_
- cheers for posting man!PhanLo
- Quite nice! +1futurefood
- interesteing video for that late night tales - do you think any of its real? good use of CGwoowahesque
- Not sure who they use for those, I've seen similar vids on other LNT comps so it could be someone in house.kingsteven
- Is Documenta you kingsteven? I love this stuff. I'm trying to do more guitar stuff recently. Hope the ear's fixing up okay manIanbolton
- yeah man, well it's a 7 piece band and i co-write with joe (male singer) and arrange/ produce it all. it's a nice mix of studio and live performance...kingsteven
- the last track here is from an EP that was all improvised (and pretty badly recorded) then I layered vocals and a load of cello and keys on topkingsteven

this is just a quick test messing around with the the SUB37 yesterday.. nothing amazing, super fun
not here to make blip blips .. looking for functional usable cv generators and functions to create and randomise external synths.
- that said within 2 days of having modular hardware, my entire studio looks like a bomb hit it, not to mention everything I look at I am now second guessingautoflavour
- its price and how much I actually need/want it.autoflavour
- Very nice. The RackBrute looks sexy. Hopefully has enough power for what you want. Heard it can be light on juice, depending on the modules you use.mort_
- yeah its handling it at the moment.. I kind of got it as it was cheap secondhand and I had originally thought it would go well with the minibrute2 ..autoflavour
- but increasingly I am looking at the mini brute as just deadweight and something I can put back into modular..
I knew this would happen. its like crack.autoflavour - its so brutal tho.. everything you want to buy is like minimum $450 a pop.. even simple things like LFOsautoflavour
- Do you get a discount on marriage counselling with your first modular case? ;)mort_
- yep basic module $500 hence i have avoided the rabbit hole... but do dream of building a small rig like this https://youtu.be/4jC…prophetone
- It’s totally like crack. In less than a week I have started selling things from the studio i wouldn’t have before. Cleared a out 1800 worth so farautoflavour
- ^Lol yea, same here. I stopped soon after and sold all the modules opting for one synth onlyfuturefood
- The sequencer modules keep pulling me back. So many great onesfuturefood

sent off my first PCB designs today to get manufactured.. soooooo excited..
- what's it going to be?hans_glib
- https://ae01.alicdn.…sted
- started off easy.. its just a 8 channel midi controller.. but designed it so I can use the same CPU board and do iterations of the Controller board without needautoflavour
- ing to redesign both.. its the entree for the actual project I want to develop next, but just wanted to get something tangible in my hands firstautoflavour
- just be clear, its my concept, but I worked with an engineer to design the PCB.. learning heaps tho.. keep pulling apart my own equipment and analysingautoflavour

- I still want one of these as much as I did when they came out.mg33
- its so much fucking fun. the price was hard to swallow but i use it all the time and the fact that i can just bring it with me wherever and make tunes is ❤️mantrakid
- Very nice. I too have wanted one since they came out. I had a friend that god one on release, barely used it and wouldn't sell it. We don't talk no more.garbage
- Actually kind of depressing, I don't play music anymore and have sold most of my gear. Everything from electric organs to tape loop ratchet gear.garbage
- All that remains is an AKAI MPK25. I still want an OP-1.garbage
- I have one and yeah it's fun to just jam with. Nice when flying too.ephix
- Weren't they just $700 when they came out?garbage
- i think the first version was 700 then they sold out and released a v2 later for 1200 or so, then they released the OP-1 Field (huge upgrade for ~$2000)mantrakid
- Ah, good to know. I think the one I played with was the OG. Maybe someday I'll snag a used one.garbage

its only taken literally 3 years (2.5 years of which its been sitting as a basically expensive white elephant mocking me from my desk)
but I finally got my MIDI controller I have been building functional.
Got the PCB printed back in November 2020, the enclosure and custom buttons made..but then the engineer fucked off and I didn't have money to engage a new one.. $4k in the hole, I needed a miracle.
then came image upload to chatgpt, and within 3 weeks of me uploading the schematic, I finally got it to work last night for the first time.
Chatgpt just was my electrical engineer and code monkey.
its pretty fucking good feeling. I just built a midi controller.
photos to come.. but yep, chuffed
- Being an electronics Arduino nerd myself with a GAS addiction I say bravo, can't wait to see itprophetone
- ChatGPT can produce working circuit layouts? or read them? how does that work?monNom
- chatgpt can read images you upload, and then work out what the circuit does. granted its pretty low fruit what I was making, but stillautoflavour
- Crazy. That thing really is going to take all of our jobs.monNom

My son is 10 and is learning the drums. He's into it but I struggle to get him to practice without me reminding him, largely as his passion belongs to his computer.
I think the missing link is some music making software for making beats and loading samples that has a simple enough interface to get him going. We are mac based, and he has a sweet studio setup (for a 10 year old).
I would love a little advice if anyone could help with some recommendations.
- Say set up the camera so I can watch it later or listen to it when I drive. Show him interest and I think he will deliver!AQUTE
- Melodics App?oey_oey
- Thanks I'll check it out.slappy
- Playing drums is a tactical thing. Making music on a computer definitely isn't, most of the time you're mouse-ing around.microkorg
- Maybe getting him a Ableton Push2, or Maschine or Akai MPC Studio so he can load in drum samples and bash out beats with his fingers.microkorg
- Get him watching fingerdrumming on MPCs on Youtube. See Raybandanas post on 1st page of this thread.microkorg
- https://youtu.be/mTk…microkorg
- Get him hooked on sampling and you're never going to have to worry about him smoking or doin drugs when he's older as all his pocket money will go on vinyl ;)microkorg
- “ And get their friends to come in and they'll suck, too. And then they'll f******* start playing and they'll have the best time they've ever had in their livesnb
- ... and they’ll become nirvana.” Advice from Dave Grohlnb
- Son, drummers are pussy magnets. Now show me some paradiddles.mort_
- Thanks, there is heaps to research in there. I'm really looking forward to learning with him.slappy
- I know this is low hanging fruit but if you want easy quick wins, GarageBand. My 11 year old loves it.. granted he is just arranging loops but he is interestedautoflavour
- Yeah my 12 year old makes tunes in garage band. Seems very immediate and intuitive.mort_
