Brain: "You've got an album to finish mixing."

Also Brain: "They just added instruments to Rust, why not do a cover of Pacific State for absolutely no fucking reason (there's not even a Saxophone)"

Also Brain: "Impulse buy Elektron Model:Samples because now you have no free time whatsoever."

Also Brain: "That distorted TD-3 sounds nice."

    • Holy shit. I have been getting rid of all of my gear and this could fill a crucial gap. Akai controller, a bunch of analog gear and this would be a fun combo.garbage
    • But I'm flirting with the idea of going full analog and getting a piano. Anybody here have 88 keys?garbage
    • 88 keys would be wasted on me... jamming with a guy with a nord stage 88, and it takes up the whole room :-/kingsteven
    • Considering the rd-8, td-3 and now this... Behringer applied for MONOPOLY trademarks a while back too.kingsteven
    • Ha yeah. I'm actually wanting that, but I'm thinking more of a shitty old novelty piano in the living room for friends to play at parties.garbage
    • That role is currently filled by a Lowry Teenie Genie, and it's always a laugh when somebody scares themselves with the volume pedal.garbage

took 2 days worth of fucking around under tables and squeezing into the back of patch bays, but finally got it all swapped out.

I had forgotten there were a few other bits that I had purchased over the past 4 months or so that handnt been properly installed.

    in the end, upgrade included

    zed24 mixer
    Elektron digitakt
    Roland TB-3
    Roland VT-3
    Hologram Infinite Jets
    Boss D500 Delay
    Alexis 3630 compressor
    MOTU Midi 128 midi switch

The biggest ball ache was having to reorganise the patch bay as the ZED24 and the o1V had their stereo channels organised differently..

I have kind of maxed out my studio now. I don't have any more space, I don't have any more patch ports free and no more space for more patch bays.

anything new that comes in, something old has to go out.

but it looks so pretty at night..

    • while reorganising the patch bay might sound easy, I pretty much had to take the entire patch section apart to get access to the back. and its a mad birds nestautoflavour

As someone who is in love with the Roland System 100M and has avoided the black hole that is eurorack modular... this is going to be a problem for me...

    $100 a pop?!! http://www.factmag.com/2018/04/1…

Came across this recently and it's a goldmine of information on sound design. Someone on Reddit compiled all 63 parts of a Sound on Sound magazine series called Synth Secrets into a single PDF.

It starts by explaining basics like waves, envelopes and modulation and then explains how various acoustic instruments can be synthesized like drums, percussion, brass, strings, piano, etc.

PDF even has a document outline for jumping to each part,

so after purging over 5k of modular a few weeks back.. I over purged and left a hole in my rack..

so I did a thing.. wasnt planning on buying any new synths, but this came up in facebook marketplace and it was stupid cheap..
and when I contacted the guy he had no idea and then knocked a further $400 off the price saying it was untested

I get there (90 minute drive) and the thing is immaculate .. guy works for an estate clearing company and some old guy owned it, but clearly never used it.

its like box fresh.. even has the sticker still on the screen.

    works perfectly..

got it for almost half price to what they are going for on reverb.. so even if I flip it, I am winning

In love with the sound of the Vermona Perfourmer from watching youtube vids from this guy. It's a 4 voice / 4 oscilator analog synth that just seems to have a sublime softness and warmth to it.

Added a second story to the modular. Started to get too many modules on the shelf, so I figured I'd get another case for them. Not sure how I feel about the cases stacked vs. side-by-side yet.

Picked up a Synthesis Tech E352 and Quadrax to go with it. Really liking the E352. Sorry for the potato quality image. I smashed the lens on my phone camera accidentally.

Quick rough idea I've been working on over the weekend using the new drum sounds I picked up. As long as I've been making music my rule has been that I've succeeded if anyone other than me likes something I made. I was playing this in the car this morning while taking my kids to school, and my daughter said "let's listen to this tonight after we read a story so I can sleep to this." We listen to a lot of slow music at both kids bedtimes. Was a nice moment seeing her like this.

    https://roli.com/products/blocks…

Bought the ROLI Seaboard Bock this weekend. I had never heard of this until a coworker told me about it Friday and I was immediately intrigued.

Two words: blown away. Being used to playing a standard MIDI controller that doesn't even have Aftertouch, there are obviously limits to the expressiveness of a regular controller.

This thing is amazing in how much variable pressure, direction, etc. you can play with. What really sums it up in terms of what instantly amazed me was that it can be set to adjust all sorts of parameters per note - ex: cutoff - if you're playing multiple notes at once and you only slide your finger up on one of them, it only impacts the cutoff for that note. It was pretty mind blowing. I'm sure there are ways you can adjust cutoff per note if you want to control all of that in software and painstakingly adjust that stuff, but to do it all right there with your hands was really cool.

I'm really looking forward to getting it set up to work better with strings in Logic. It apparently requires some tweaking of the MIDI controls and such, but some of the videos I've seen, you can control vibrato by moving your fingers up or down, or kind of vibrating them side to side.

Anyone have one of these? I've not been this excited to sit down and just come up with ideas, especially for more of the ambient stuff I'm doing these days where I'll love the variability and expressiveness of it as you use it.

    • where you been? Facebook seems to bombard me with their adverts for the past 3+ years...shapesalad
    • This somehow missed me completely. I'd not seen anything from them until Friday.mg33
    • Friend has one, I like it a lot, very expressive! He recently got a Touche too which is just as epic. https://www.expressi…microkorg
