    Gross alert.

I've had a wart thing at the tip of my middle finger that goes slightly under my fingernail...has been there for about 45 years. Have been to the doc a few times and they've attempted to freeze it but has never worked. Have used topical wart remover ointment, but that hasn't really worked either. I always applied it for a few days then stopped. So a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd keep applying the oinment for a week or so and see how that went.

    Well fuck me!

The tip of my finger is now inflamed and just about the most intense pain of my life. It's not infected but I suspect the ointment has managed to kill most of the wart and kept going until it's hit nerve. absolutely excruciating! If you press into the tip of one of your fingers with a nail, you can feel how sensitive it is.

I'm hoping to hell the dead wart will just fall away and the inflamed nerve will settle down. Otherwise no doubt I'll be off to the doc...probably to have my finger chopped off.

The fucker is absolutely throbbing right now!

    • Two questions, and you don't have to respond to them if they are too personal.garbage

      2. It's apparently not a periungual wart. Some other type. Have had it checked a bunch of times...treatment has never worked though.

    • My FIL has said to treat properly, I'd need to have the nail removed and then treated...but I've never bothered.BusterBoy

Just popped out of my studio for literally 3 minutes, come back in and computer's off. I swear under my breath at it having crashed, so I've likely lost a wee bit of work, but whatever.

Turn it back on and oh.

Oh dear. it's not turning back on. This likely isn't good..

Cue 10 minutes of panic, removing computer from place, so I can check innards, then a hoover to clean interior etc etc.

No burning smells from the inside, so not a fucked PSU or capacitor on the board - could it be just...?

    it's the plug's fuse.

    PHEW.

Now I've got to find a 10AMP fuse (not sure I've even heard of a 10amp fuse) as all I have are normal 3, 5 and 13 amp fuses. Could probably risk the latter, but given the machine's just chanced it, I think I'd bette rnot push my luck.

a few friends haven't been coming around because they spend time with immuno compromised people. so, my bubble is expanding for Halloween. we all waited an hour and a half to get tested at the dodger stadium drive through. my group is expanding from 4 to 8 just for one night! it wasn't as big of a pain in the neck as I thought. I didn't even leave the car and we all conference called in from our cars to complain about the line together. this is our present and future. unbelievable.

This guy stutters more than anyone I know. Can someone explain to me what he's talking about at 7:20? What benefit? What harm to society? Give concrete examples plz?

    • An externality is an economics concept that basically means: an output that isn't reflected in the cost of the goods.nb
    • Example: a coal energy plant produces energy (profit) and uses up coal, which costs money. It also produces air pollution, but there is no cost to pollute.nb
    • The coal company doesn't pay anything to pollute the air. An externality! But there is a "cost" to society: the air gets worse the more energy they produce.nb
    • Using his argument, the energy produced is a "benefit" overall even with the cost of coal. But the pollution is a "harm" because it's not accounted for.nb
    • He also says this situation ("unreasonable profit") encourages more pollution (in my example of the coal plant.) He calls it a forcing function, but that's notnb
    • really the right term, in my opinion. It's just an "incentive", not a "forcing function." But that's just nit-picking.nb
    • As he says "this is basically Economics 101"nb
    • Hmmm I guess he's saying that if you make a tax to create the incentive or the disincentive then that counts as a forcing function. Which is true, I suppose.nb
    • Maybe he's stuttering because this is a painfully rudimentary talk to be giving at the Sorbonne??nb
    • ok, so the "harm to society" is the burning of coal, which cost €4 as an example. I had completely forgotten it costs money to go extract the coal and pay somecherub
    • pay someone a wage to burn it.cherub
    • thxcherub
    • What? No! the production of energy counts as a benefit. The harm is that society (or the market) has not placed a value on the externality.nb

Do you think Office Depot or Starbucks or random stores in the mall ever have trouble finding people to work?

Are there an endless supply of people who have no interests that want to sell staplers at 9am on a Sunday?

So I decided to try and cut away some of the dead skin on my gross wart...it's been bloody sore and I thought it must have been the wart ointment getting onto a nerve or something,

So I start a small snip with some nail clippers and BOOM. Out pours the (look away now) putrid pus. Absolutely gross...no wonder the fucker was sore!

So I guess it's to the doc next and probably a course of antibiotics.

No way i’m gonna let corona ruin Halloween trick-or-treating for the neighborhood kids this year.

We’re doing a western theme. Dressing up like cowfolk (so we can wear masks and gloves), setting up a projection screen in the yard playing midget western “Terror of Tiny Town”, and manning a free bar “saloon” for adults. All the usual lighting and fog effects. Top-shelf candy to make up for the smaller volume kids may be getting overall.

Even if no one comes by at least one house put in the effort
