Too many notes to really respond to, so just a followup:

I'm ok, just mostly disappointed in her, to be honest. She had a wildness that I loved that she isn't willing or able to sustain. I'd say that I'm angry at myself for not seeing it sooner, but honestly it's probably all my fault.

@ben I would normally be excited, as the little homie and I have done this solo trip across the country several times. Not too pumped on a COVID Winter road trip.

@mono ha no, my parents live in the sticks. There's a very Alabama-ass pet cemetery tucked away on their land. I buried my last dog on that hill, and when the time comes I will put Leo to rest there. I'm moving to my hometown to be with my friends.

    @Nairn What?

@all Thanks for the words, I appreciate y'all.

(since I've never done a mug)

Not sure what it says about me, but I'm sadder about your dog.

Confined in our town at least for 2 weeks (central gov. is talking about 6 months of curfew, until may next year).

No problem for me at all, I've got tons of projects to do, we live in a small town, surrounded by mountains to hike, a climb to ride by bike... I can survive.

I'm worried for my daugthers (15 and 18 yo) another year lost.

    Poor girls :(

    • I was speaking with my Dad earlier who was explaining the curfew rules over there - I didn't realise how hard they'd come down, so quick. A fun winter ahead.Nairn
    • Yeah, from fantastic to total hell in two weeks... It's crazy!OBBTKN

From a client who's been trying to organise a meeting this week: "I'm in bed today with some weird cold. Hoping to be back on it tomorrow.". Aye petal, you just stay home - I'm not getting anywhere near you.

  • Nairn0

Ew, i feel so dirty - I just ordered something via Amazon.

Independent seller, which I had to use as I can't order the small quantity of the tricky thing that I often use that will get here in time for tomorrow. But, still. Ew.

I'm moving on to my 5th and final interview with a large agency today. My clients would be incredible. It would be the next step in my career I need to break through to a new level that's been just out of reach. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for an offer this week.

This time around while looking for a staff gig, I've been through up to 3 interviews at two other agencies and not landed the job. They've either went with someone else or they're taking their time and will fill the position next year (after the holidays). And, there's a lot of amazing talent that's out of work and flooding the market right now.

In the meantime, the checks just aren't coming fast enough with the freelance grind. With Christmas just around the corner, I'm really hoping to be able to buy some comfort and peace of mind because from the looks of it, that's as good as this shit year is going to get.

Is anyone else stressed tf out about next Tuesday and the complete fuckery I'm bracing for?

    • Good fortune. Don't stress out about things beyond your control.DRIFTMONKEY

    • @comtinuity I hope we made it farther down the gauntlet than anyone else. If they were doing this many interviews with several candidates ... time is money.shellie
    • Yeah, I was thinking much the same. Surely in both your case and mine, other candidates have been voted off the island by now.Continuity
    • Best of luck to you both. My experience with large agencies is the bigger they are, the slower the ball moves. And fingers crossed for Nov 3rd. I've got PTSD.brandonp
    • Good luck...but wtf could a company hope to learn in a 5th interview they hadn't in the first 4!BusterBoy

I have a supplier/sort-of-competitor I used to buy material from and would recommend to my clients for jobs I couldn't do. I did this regularly for about 4 years and I know I passed a fair amount of completed jobs their way.

One time I was in their premises and the boss, who I'd had quite a few chats with over the years and thought I got on well with (he's an old school British misery guts), was a total arsehole to me and additionally waved off the jobs I'd sent his way as being insignificant. Huh, ok.

So for the past 6 years I've continued to recommend them for jobs, but only jobs where the person I'm dealing with is a total pain in the arse and I want to get rid of them.

Just received a photo of a 1 day old boy, one of my bestest friend's son. He looks just like his Dad.

So there's the idea that babies look more like their fathers when they first pop out so that they're more likely to survive - in olden times, a male might be suspicious of the origins of his woman's fidelity, so rather than go Lion-like "kill all the children just in case!" the child looks like the father so he'll think it is and bond with it.

    Neat.

Except, the problem I've always had with this idea is - cave people didn't have mirrors. How the fuck would Dad know what HE looked like?

    • eish "origins of his woman's fidelity" = "origins of the child and his woman's fidelity" or something. poor editing. as always.Nairn
    • lol. not sure if cave people were completely monogamous, if at all. Plus, during those times the human race was maybe <20,000 in populationfuturefood
    • ...so giant cave-fuck-fests must have been priorityfuturefood
    • Aye, exactly! So the evolutionary drive is to ensure father bonds with actual son, rather than killing it and 'ensuring' his succession.Nairn

I like the content that Radiolab puts out in general, but I feel like they think everyone in their audience is completely ADD. They change tones/voices or have an audible edit to the track every 4 seconds like it's a music video. I find it all rather jarring and even patronizing.

    scarabin,

You are the reason I have not begun the QBN Sticker Exchange.

I emailed you as part of the group, all but 3 replied. I emailed you and two others separately. The other two checked in independently as of today (Tuesday).

I thought I had your phone number. Alas, I do not. If anyone wants to or can get a hold of him, I'd like to provide the address list to everyone sometime Wednesday.

Hoping to hear from you soon. People are getting antsy.

My rewards for the donating to the Art Fund / Prospect Cottage campaign arrived, quite unexpectedly. So that was nice. The little enamel pin is nice, I think Derek would get a kick out of seeing stickers being made of his life and work.

Frequently getting my music mixes deleted from Youtube because of copyright claims, even without the mixes being monetized in any way.
