In part of my dream last night there was a bright orange interior bar/restaurant kind of place. The kind of Orange used in that tunnel at the Munich Airport. A person in the dream informed me that this was “QBN”. I couldn’t believe it! I was like “what!?”, “ ugh it’s so corporate looking, wtf?”
I wondered what happened to the grimy old bar that was super rad to hang out in. There used to be stickers all over the walls and cool art and furniture of all kinds. My friend in the dream Mike and I asked to sit for drinks. We were offered a small list of craft beers and two different flights of tasters. We were also told that we had to order an appetizer with our beer to absorb the alcohol of course, so we wouldn’t act up. Then, there was a menu item which was some kind of single, slider, burger thing wrapped in black and white paper. It was called “The QBN” and had the proper black and white QBN logo on the wrapper. That’s it, that’s the only QBN branding in the place. The place was so freaking clean and spotless and boring. There was however one single piece of art on one of the columns in the middle of the place. There, the owners had put up a nicely framed well done owl by none other than Hydro 74.
That’s it that’s all I remember.

I bought a new monitor today. A cheap-ish (250 €), end-of-line, we're-not-stocking-it-again-afte... Samsung thing from one of the two major electronics retailers in Germany (both of them them are owned by the same holding company, so I don't know why they bother with two brands).
28", 4K. Nice and crisp, and I managed to tweak the colours to match my MBP's display.
I like it. Is nice.

That big agency I just finished 5 interviews with emailed me back asking if had time tomorrow to chat and that they had exciting news to share. Today was undoubtedly going to be a stress all of a day, but now I have something really awesome to look forward to no matter how the election pans out.
Now comes the hardest part of all -- not undervaluing myself as I negotiate. And also, hoping they don't undervalue me and come with an offer a decent first offer. My friend just hired for a similar position at another office at the agency, so I have an idea of where I should be on the scale.

Packing up a job and the box I had set aside for it is too small, so I've had to scour around and use something else from the studio here - one for a 17" monitor that still has the £280 price tag in the corner. It's a damn good box, which is why I've kept it for so long. It's a sony and looking up the code - 2006. 14 fucking years I've had this box.
Oh well.

@PhanLo - Hey man, I think you posted something on here a few weeks/months/ Coronoid-time-units ago, and I was wondering if you could remember where it was? Because I thought I'd bookmarked it, but can't find it.
It was a company in Edinburgh who were making 'interactive doorways' for shops to set up so that they could continue trading without having to have people enter the store.
ie. it was a CNC'd/Carpentered point of sale that would snugly fit into the door and would have things like a flap or a window and a shelf.

They offered exactly what I wanted (17k more than my last gig, great benefits, and a relocation bonus if I move to Austin (not required). So, I'm taking the offer as is. They want me to start 11/24 -- right before Thanksgiving so I get paid for the holiday. How nice! And, I'll have health insurance before the end of the year.
It all looks great so I'm signing for sure. But, not before I interview with a competitor today. They reached out yesterday out of the blue, they know I have an offer, and rushed an interview for this afternoon. Let's see how this goes!

I'm from the North, where in my experience at least 'mate' tends to be used sarcastically or aggressively. I'm more of a 'pal' (or even 'chum' because I'm a twat) person.
Anyway, I'm swapping work emails with an Australian, and obviously the usage over there is meant much more earnestly and warmly, but every time I read it in his mails I mentally stumble a little, thinking "is he being sarccy?" haha. I've been let go. Not bad considering the company was sold to a bank over a month ago. From what I understand, I was one of the last. Good people, great atmosphere. The pandemic killed us. Officially unemployed. Weird.
