Just got a Canon EOS 700D with a Tamron 18-270 mm, what's the best protection you can get for this ? to go outside and be able to shoot fast ?

    • AR-15 maybe?monNom
    • For killing Arabs ? yesi_was
    • Just going to get an Eastpak all other stuff is expensive useless shiti_was
    • I've got one of these leather everready cases for a smaller eos-m system. Works great. Flip down the flap, shoot, flap back up, stowed. https://www.megagear…monNom
    • I keep a uv filter on lens so I don't need a cap.monNom
    • ^that's a pro move bro'grafician
    • What kinda protection you talking about? Rubber?pango
    • You mean a bag? Find a weatherproof sling. Nothing about that is weather/waterproof.garbage
    • https://www.peakdesi…garbage
    • Their shit is overpriced, but sleek? Maybe a good starting point. Hiding a Tamron is like hiding a boner in church lol.garbage
    • My daily is a rock, so for the past year or so I've just used this: https://www.uniqlo.c…garbage
    • And as for filters as protection, I'd say nah to UV and yah to variable ND. You guys bring out the photo dork in me.garbage
    • I got a second hand eastpak for 10 euros, I can pad the inside if I wanti_was
    • The Tamron and the Canon got it for 240 euros in ebay, in the original box with all accessories plus small SD card and spare batterie.i_was
    • @pango, rubber is gayi_was
    • @garbage, why a UV protection, what's the use of that ?i_was
    • UV filter for preventing accidental scratches to the glass.pango
    • that peak design's everyday sling is pretty nice. and yes, cheaper options are out there.pango
    • this one is not bad
      https://www.lowepro.…
      pango
    • Could you point me to a UV filter for the Tamron on ebay for ex. ?i_was
    • well... im not sure what brand you gonna end up with on ebay. just look for 62mm UV filterpango
    • okay, thanksi_was
    • Yeah, if it was a prime I'd say a variable ND, but a UV is fine for that lens. And Domke wraps, if you're really heavy on protection.garbage
    • https://tiffen.com/p…garbage
    • If I'm going one camera, one lens, it goes in the sling with that around it.garbage
    • ^ I just use Domke wraps for my cameras, the velcro holds them nice and tight. Wrap them up and throw them in my bag. Doing it for years, no problems.face_melter
    • I absolutely hate carrying extra kit, so I have never had a 'proper' camera loadout bag. Just my rucksack and the Domke's.face_melter
    • Uv filter so you can just clean your lens with your t-shirt when it gets dirty. Once you've scratched up the filter glass, replace with a new one and repeat.monNom
    • @pango, it's 72mmi_was

With all the rain last month, we'd got some floor water come in to the crawlspace under our floorboards. Just some moisture on the surface, but still enough to make the air feel damp.
So we got a dehumidifier to remove it, been enjoying going under the floor to empty the machine 3 times a day and the house is returning to normal.
Thankfully I'd cleared it of all the debris left over nearly 100 years by builders, 150 bricks, copper pipe and cables to make it easier to get around

just back from the auction where I had my eye on a lot with 2 boxes of 7"s in, I was happy to go to £125 but the bidding went NUTS! and finished at £340 - OK so there were a few nice bits in there, original Cure, Cramps, Orange Juice and some rare Dundee Indie bands but that was way over the value when commission is added tipping it at over £400, crackers!

What is the point of a catch and release mousetrap? To treat them like homing pigeons? To more efficiently train cats?

Wondering if the world needs a catch and release roach or mosquito trap.

    • Some people don’t like handling dead animalsGnash
    • To salve human guilt and immediate responsibility. Catch and release just adds prey to some other environment. It's actually illegal here in the UKNairn
    • ..to release rodents you've caught at home.Nairn
    • ^ really? Interesting !Gnash
    • Yeah, i only realised recently when looking into ways to kill a rat that we had in our garden (Poison, unfortunately. Really, really didn't want to go that way)Nairn

    • Found a decomposing mouse under the floor boards the other day, I think it had ate some old poison. Since we got the cat I thought we'd got rid of it all.PhanLo
    • Mice are easier to get with traps - they're cheap and you can hide loads of them. Failing that, glue on sheets, hide out and then bash them with a frying panNairn
    • Rat traps are more expensive, much more lethal with a kid around, and rats are smarter. Only way is poison. Or a mongoose. Hard to rent tho.Nairn
    • One night some years ago I caught a whole family of mice one after the other in traps. Felt bad about it, but they did piss and shit over some of the cupboardsPhanLo

    I'm getting sloppy.

I've just done a few cuts on a fairly expensive bit of material - awards for a design-centric thing. Not my design, but needs to Look Perfec'.

I finish the cuts and notice that a key element isn't centred. I didn't notice in the file, but it's immediately apparent in the real thing. Again, I didn't design these, but I should've noticed prior to committing.

It's not like some artful, considered off-centering either - it's just off.

I've knocked a bunch of money off three small (as in tiny) jobs today because I'd feel guilty charging my typical 'minimum charge'. Each job will take me literally 2 minutes apiece to do, and I can use off-cuts of materials so no cost to me other than a few minutes of my time. They're for regular clients, so goodwill n'all that, but...

...I had a client in earlier who mentioned that one of the companies he'd contacted was busy (as am I) and so was trying to charge 4.5x the quote I'd given. My quote wasn't exactly cheap (fair, but not cheap), but their quote was obscene. It's a 'fuck off rate' as one of my clients puts it - one that if they accept the cost, it's worth the hassle.

Presumably my competitor gets away with that at least occasionally, otherwise they wouldn't try it. I do wonder at the long-term viability of that: What if you put off a potentially great client because they simply assume you're ridiculoexpensive?

Not only that, but apparently I was much friendlier (can you imagine?) and more usefully and comprehensively communicative.

    This is why I'm poor.

I need to ether stop over-thinking everything, or just become a bastard.
