I'm working towards using only:
Sketch
http://www.bohemiancoding.com/sk…&
Pixelmator
http://www.pixelmator.com/It's VERY hard to break routine, especially with software.
Anyone trying any of these low cost, polished alternatives as i_monk touched on above?

they have clearly weighed the perceived cost of possibly losing the low-end of the customer spectrum vs. those who can afford it and work it into their overhead. it's a gamble, and they are taking it.

...as for the whining out there and that petition in particular, it's pretty simple imo. people don't like paying for things.
and when it comes to adobe products, many people have enjoyed not paying them for a long, long time. some people may even be shocked that they're supposed to cost something.
now adobe is insisting on payment via a new model and people are kleenex crushing.
and hey, it's expensive, no doubt... but so is food, gas, my car, my cell done, my internet, my mortgage, my ebay addiction, my adidas, etc.
the end.

What do you guys mean by expensive? I'm paying $30 a month, is there something I'm missing?
The Master Suite was almost $3k, I'm now only paying $360 a year and I get to install them legally on more than one machine.
- exactly. people are wigging out for something that costs less than most monthly cell plans...prophetone
- $70 equiv in UHYolo
- UK that isYolo
- i pay $50/moprophetone
- This.. its actually cheaper!! Plus you dont have to pay every time a new version comes out...fresnobob

I've contemplated subscribing, but until I actually need updated programs I don't already have, I can't see the need for it. I use LR 4 and PS 6 90% of the time with the occasional need for Illustrator. Aside from LR and PS, I still have Illustrator, InDesign, and Flash CS3, the last of which I have zero need for.
I'm going to upgrade to LR5 whenever I get around to it, and I'm glad you can still get the standalone version.

So I have Photoshop CS6...is there any reason why I should install CC? Or is it just the same?
- inteliboy0
I may fork out the $ for cc. A tax write off anyway.

Crazy, they added Kuler to at least Illustrator CC (haven't checked the other programs)... I thought that was dead.
- They came out with a (new? updated?) Kuler iPhone app recently. It's pretty neat.Nathan_Adams
- yep, iPhone app is coolbenfal99

How the fuck 69,99$ = 86,09€

Are you able to buy just a month at a time if needed? For example, could I buy just an annual subscription for PhotoShop as a single app, then when needed, buy the full suite for a month?
- Yes, but it's more expensive.monospaced
- waaay more expansivebenfal99
- but still cheaper than if I were to buy the whole suite for a year? I'm looking at maybe 1 month a year needing allhereswhatidid
- yeah, that's super cheap, like under $100monospaced
- fuck it, your first month is probably free, or reduced if you own the previous versionsmonospaced

Ughh... I am back to nonstop debate about whether to get the CC subscription.
Currently have: PS6, IL3, Indesign 3, Lightroom 5, Flash 5. I don't use Flash, so don't really care about that.
Just upgraded to Lightroom 5 for $79. They tried to talk me into getting CC, and thus getting LR5 along with that. They're sneaky and pop up live right there in the site.
Looks like some nice new features in PS CC. I don't use InDesign much right now, but I will be soon for some Blurb books, and some print stuff for my Expedition Bureau site. I use Illustrator occasionally and would probably use it more if I had the newer version. PS6 screams in 64bit, so the speed improvements in CC for 64 bit apps would be nice.
I may in the future want to delve into video, so access to Premiere would be nice. Also seems worth learning some of their other tools.
Not sure if I have much need for the cloud storage aspects, but maybe in the future.Just reading all this stuff about the pros and cons, the cost comparisons, etc. Owning CS6 already I know I'd get the year of CC for $30 for the first year.
Did anyone else debate it this much? I sort of feel like "just got for it" because the newest I'll ever get otherwise are the CS6 versions.
Convince me...

- That's pretty sweet.mg33
- Yea updates like that made me look into it more. Than what nathan said about increased cost for more users made me think i could never pitch it to workdeathboy

I didn't get the outrage over CC pricing when it was announced, but the last week we were reviewing the options for upgrading the studio and it's fucking ridiculous.
Basically, you're not allowed to buy multiple individual subscriptions (limited to one). So if you have 2+ people, you get forced on to the Teams version, which comes with few extra (and not needed) features and costs shit loads more. In what world do you get the privilege of paying more for buying multiple copies? It pretty much goes from A$29.99pm per licence (as an upgrade from CS5) to A$69.99pm (apparently we can't get upgrade pricing on Teams for whatever fucking reason).
- can each artist buy their own and then get reimbursed?prophetone
- That's the only workaround we've been able to think of, and have to look at how we'd manage it.Nathan_Adams
- at my last workplace they just bought multiple individual licences, 1 licence per 2 workplaces...it came out cheaper than the usual half year full licence upgrade.uan
- cheaper than the usual half year full licence upgrade.uan

did you know that Cinema4D Lite version is included in the CC subscription.
At first they added Lightroom to the cloud subscription, now C4D.
I know they want to make money, but I also see them adding features, writing good applications and getting better, it's way different than when they introduced CS and every update didn't make sense and was way to expensive. I don't know exactly what happened, but I have the feeling the guys that fucked up Flash are no longer at Adobe and they are back on track...
now I hope they will make the subscription cheaper with time as they get more subscriptions and in that way augment accessibility to the product (that's some wishful thinking, but McLuhan's and Negroponte's theories about 'new' economy models for the 21st century call for this).

only a couple months after the last update to their main video apps, they're releasing new versions. I can't lie, I'm happy with the new pace of dev with CC as a freelancer (still thinks it makes no sense for studios)

i've noticed since CS5 if you open a png or jpg in photoshop, make an edit (without adding layers) and hit save it actually saves as png or jpg (over your original file) rather than asking to save as a psd version (like it used to). googling how to switch it back only brings up old threads of retards requsting this as a feature FFS
- <wee rant after writing over some stock imagrykingsteven
- that's how it always workedmonospaced
- the pros of that outweigh the consfadein11
- really? i have no way of checking... but been cmd+s to save as psd for years...kingsteven
- rarely need to use that dialog for anything else. permanent 'save for web' claw.kingsteven
- it only makes it a PSD if you make a change that requires it to be one, like adding a layer or adjustmentmonospaced
- so, i should be congratulating myself for never having fucked that up before? excellentkingsteven
- LOL @ only finding retards who want it.
What a pain.animatedgif

I have the CC subscription and I pay $50/mo since I couldn't get in on the "upgrade" pricing. I don't necessarily have a problem with it, but it represents an overhead cost that I'm not sure I truly need.
I use Photoshop daily, but as mentioned above I've heard a lot of people are switching to Sketch (http://www.bohemiancoding.com/s... Truth be told I've never really loved photoshop's workflow from the start. Just learned to use it and live with it.
I open up Illustrator on occasion to tweak or export a vector file, but never do any real "work" in the app.
I use Acrobat Pro to create and merge PDF files, but I'm sure there are alternatives to that as well.
Long story short, if I can find alternative tools I am out.
- Acrobat Pro is the biggest scam ever.animatedgif
- Acrobat is great for creating contracts and estimates, adding signature and form fields etcfyoucher1

"I can't lie, I'm happy with the new pace of dev"
It wont last, once subscriptions outweigh other CS versions they'll go back to their normal bullshit. The company is a joke.
- i've kept my typekit subscription running separate (not using the included plan) for this very reasonkingsteven
