People that worship athletes and celebrities, enough already.

    • Yeplemmy_k

    • Not sure worship is the right word, maybe when you’re a young kid, but as you get older it’s not a fascination or appreciation._niko

OTT child's cursive, as more frequently seen on continental Europe.

Someone bought this infant's book for my daughter, which was very sweet of them:

However it's not 'muvola' as my British eye reads, it's 'nuvola', which is handy because 'muvola' isn't a word in Italian.

Every fucking n in the book is written like an m and it irritates the living shit out of me every time I see it. It's a book to teach kids how to enjoy books and, ultimately, read - what good is it screwing with letters like that?

    • Yup, I learned cursive like that in Portugal
      https://i.pinimg.com…
      dmay
    • ^ That image is from Brazil, and it's the "m" but you get the pointdmay
    • That is a cursive n, but should not be using both humps to begin a wordGnash
    • I read an N. An M would have another line.Bennn
    • its the V that cause me problemBennn
    • the curve going into the "n" should be tiny, like on EVERY OTHER LETTER on the title theremonospaced
    • Anyone learn with Danelion? The cursive used to have n with 2 humps, ms with 3. Not helpful with learningjaylarson
    • https://en.wikipedia…jaylarson
    • I definitely learned that one, jay. But this is ... different. The curve isn't leading in correctly and is confusing on the book cover.monospaced
    • i read it as mdrgs
    • n, and yes, hard to read if you learned script in german/english countries...also other letters differ in how they are told in script: r, s, tuan
    • I learned this way of writing cursive (French, so-called Écriture A) ... m has two humps, n has one:

    'Bone broth'.

    • Bone broth and stock are most definitely not the same things. Not sure why you would blame ignorant hipsters considering the difference is ancient.monospaced

      Broth: made from meat.
      Stock: made from bones.
'Bone broth': over-priced stock named to make NYC suckers pay more for it.
      Continuity
    • Yet there are broths made without meat and stocks made with bones. Of course there’s a difference.monospaced

    • Yeah, where's the outrage coming from? I thought the difference is designation was simply bone broths are fattier and more gelatinous, stocks are thinner?garbage
    • Also had no idea that "bone broth" was a hip term. I remember my grandmother calling it that when I was a kid.garbage
    • Stocks require a shitload of gelatine from collagen, so that when they're reduced in sauces, they give the sauces body without a thickening agent.Continuity
    • And that you get ONLY from bones. Also known as a bone broth.monospaced
    • @continuity Agreed. I grew up being told bone broth was a fattier base with more body after you cooked out most of the liquid and were left with fatty goodness.garbage
    • A bone broth used the carcass. Stock was more of making a roux and was artificially thickened by tossing in minced chicken fat and some corn starch.garbage
    • Also don't knock it, but pigeon bone broth is.. kind of amazing. We should really have a cooking challenge thread.garbage
    • I think I could best sum it up by saying I don't really give two fucks about nomenclature, but if friends at a dinner party are fucking things up..garbage
    • ..in the kitchen I find the most polite way to hand them a cold drink and steer them away from the cutting board. But in a loving way.garbage
    • If you're using a roux to make stock, you're doing it wrong. A proper stock is made using joint bones (beef, veal) and carcasses (poultry) only, along with ...Continuity

    Royal Mail.

Sent a package earlier this week to Jersey - usually they get there in a day or two.

As of now, ficve days later, the fucker's still sat in a depot in East London.

Chasing it up they're trying to claim that Jersey is International and I paid for the wrong service. Well fuck me. A) I didn't choose the service, one of your employees in the Post Office did; and B) Jersey isn't considered 'international' - it even says as much on your own website.

They won't expedite the delivery and are telling me it'll take up to 10 days to get there, which is leaving my client fuming as she needed these yesterday.

You dun fucked up - jump to it and unfuck it, rather than burying it in even more fuck, you fucks.

    • I'm really boggled by their attitude - they recognise the problem's at their end.. but aren't offering to sort it out. It's just.. nngh.Nairn
    • This after spending £25 to get a letter delivered before 9am on a Saturday last week. They tried delivering at 6am, which client was fast asleep.Nairn
    • Apparently they're not supposed to attempt delivery before 7am, so...

The virtue signaling actors at the Oscars or awards show. It’s now like every actor has a political, environmental, identity & gender issue to express during their speech.

The most annoying I found Natalie Portman who was wearing a dress with all female directors names on it that weren’t nominated by the Oscars. As if it’s now only about gender and not the work or quality of the work itself.

So much activism during awards shows by these actors that I can’t take serious.

Maybe Ricky Gervais was right after all.

    • If they have followers and are saying something legit, then good. But actors are just people who say lines smarter people write. Celebrities are useless.omahadesigns
    • It's bizarre that people watch award shows in the first place.omahadesigns
    • People vote for movies they haven't even seen. Winning an Oscar means nothing besides it was advertised a lot.omahadesigns
    • I'll preface this by saying that an Oscar win is not a seal of quality to me.
But do you really believe that the majority of voters haven't seen the movies?
      deadsperm
    • And does winning an Oscar not mean anything to general public and therefore the commercial success of a movie?
      Think about it.
      deadsperm
    • Also, actors do not only say lines written by smarter people.
      Think about it, again.
      deadsperm
    • Conflicting. There was a time when all their speeches were self-aggrandizing bullshit. I guess they're damned if they do/don't.ben_
    • it should be "thank you, we're making ludicrous amounts of money to play dressup and make-believe, we're lucky as fucking hell and deserve none of it"_niko
    • Who deserves the money the studios are making with movies? Do you think it should be equally distributed among all those that take part in the making of movies?deadsperm
    • People who design the sets or lighting work way longer and harder than the actors. There's no reason to pay actors millions.omahadesigns
    • As with sports, there's always someone higher making more money and putting less effort. It's their names selling the movies/shoes.deadsperm
    • Ya'lls just mad that "putting colors in shapes" doesn't make that much $$$.
Actors & athletes are one of the few professions where the "worker" gets the cheese.
      deadsperm
    • I don't think this is about set designers being exploited but about actors getting more than what you think they deserve.deadsperm
    • Its never about movie executives getting paid too much. It's about the actors, because they are famous, and that's what sells movies.deadsperm
    • Yes, but the actors work less than everyone else. But they are in demand so the price always goes up.omahadesigns
