The virtue signaling actors at the Oscars or awards show. It’s now like every actor has a political, environmental, identity & gender issue to express during their speech.

The most annoying I found Natalie Portman who was wearing a dress with all female directors names on it that weren’t nominated by the Oscars. As if it’s now only about gender and not the work or quality of the work itself.

So much activism during awards shows by these actors that I can’t take serious.

Maybe Ricky Gervais was right after all.

    • If they have followers and are saying something legit, then good. But actors are just people who say lines smarter people write. Celebrities are useless.

    • It's bizarre that people watch award shows in the first place.
      ********
    • People vote for movies they haven't even seen. Winning an Oscar means nothing besides it was advertised a lot.
      ********
    • I'll preface this by saying that an Oscar win is not a seal of quality to me.
But do you really believe that the majority of voters haven't seen the movies?

    • And does winning an Oscar not mean anything to general public and therefore the commercial success of a movie?
      Think about it.

    • Also, actors do not only say lines written by smarter people.
      Think about it, again.

    • Conflicting. There was a time when all their speeches were self-aggrandizing bullshit. I guess they're damned if they do/don't.ben_
    • it should be "thank you, we're making ludicrous amounts of money to play dressup and make-believe, we're lucky as fucking hell and deserve none of it"_niko
    • Who deserves the money the studios are making with movies? Do you think it should be equally distributed among all those that take part in the making of movies?deadsperm
    • People who design the sets or lighting work way longer and harder than the actors. There's no reason to pay actors millions.
      ********
    • As with sports, there's always someone higher making more money and putting less effort. It's their names selling the movies/shoes.deadsperm
    • Ya'lls just mad that "putting colors in shapes" doesn't make that much $$$.
Actors & athletes are one of the few professions where the "worker" gets the cheese.
      deadsperm
    • I don't think this is about set designers being exploited but about actors getting more than what you think they deserve.deadsperm
    • Its never about movie executives getting paid too much. It's about the actors, because they are famous, and that's what sells movies.deadsperm
    • Yes, but the actors work less than everyone else. But they are in demand so the price always goes up.
