all this talk of people turning 50.. feeling old..
have been a casual employee my entire career pretty much, and have been at my current role the last 8 years..worked out a few days ago, that them telling me i dont progress through diffferent grades as im a casual is utter horseshit, and i should have at least had the opportunity to progress at least 6 times in that period.
i have cautiously raised this with my team leader who was on the face of it supportive and asked me to provide the clauses in the industrial award covering my job stating this, which i did..
especially after i found an article from the Service union which covered a super similar situation at another local Council re not getting graded and they go a $30k backpay ..which is awesome, but im also then hyper aware that might just awaken sleeping dogs and then im unemployed afterwards.
then laying in bed, doomscrolling before sleep and legit instagram fed my like 15 videos in a row about CV's making you unemployable as your over 40, and then a 60 minutes investigation into who ATS systems and AI are basically automatically culling anyone over 50 ..
legit i have not had an actual job interview since 1999 .. its been all casual employment, which basically meet the boss for a coffee, dazzle them with my razzle.. and then start working.
but at 49, by razzle is decidedly less dazzle, and AI basically can do my job.
i feel a distinct sense of holding onto the bottom rung of a greasy ladder and my grip is slowly giving way..
- then talking to my bestfriend, who has never been busier, but his world is DJing techno in clubs to 20 year olds.. at 50 yo.. 6-7 times a week..autoflavour
